M . rose , and said it was a source of great gratification to him to have the privilege of proposing the health of the W . M . Having introduced that Brother into Masonry , he felt sure that all the brethren must havo been delighted with the excellent manner in which the

W . M . had performed the ceremonies . The W . M . thanked Bro . Gardiner and the brethren for their kind expressions of feeling . It had always been his ambition to be W . M . of his Mother Lodge , and having reached that position , he trusted he would always deserve the approbation of tho brethren . Bros . Tolliday , Brown , and Humphreys

Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , No . 860 . —The annual supper of this Lodge took place on Tuesday evening , 27 th inst ., at Bro . Allen's , Royal Edward , Triangle , Hackney . Bro . Wallington , the Preceptor , took the chair , faced by Bro . Wright P . M . and a good muster of brethren . Some of those who gave in their names and did not attend , wo suppose , in oonsequence of the unpleasant [ and very wet night , lost a treat . The supper was served in every way

satisfactorily . The wines , Ac , were all first class , the attention paid by the host , who not only attended to the wants of those present , but enlivened the company with several capital songs , accompanying himself on tho piano , all that could be desired . Songs wero also sung by Bros . Wallington , Smith , Dallas , Crouch , Saunders , Defriez , Worsley and Davis , the last-named sang several times , and at each rendering kept the company in roars of laughter . The meeting did not break up till late , every one having thoroughly enjoyed himself .

Montefiore Lodge , No . 1017 . —A meeting of this Lodge was held on Tuesday , the 27 th inst ., at tho Regent Masonio Hall , W . Present—Bros . Victor Myers W . M ., Gulliford S . W ., Lazarus P . M . announced that he had received a letter from the Joppa Lodge , requesting the committee of the Montefiore to join them and the Israel and Tranquillity on the Jewish question . Bro . S . V . Abraham informed tho members what had been done by the committee appointed at tho last meeting . The best result he could show

were the petitions that had been signed by the various Lodges and returned to him . These were 120 in number , sufficient to show that the efforts of the committee had been successful . He had also received several letters sympathising with the movement . He con . sidered the committee might come to the Lodge with some amount of confidence . They did not desire the Montefiore Lodge to be put

prominently forward . They were anxious to join any other Lodge willing to tako up the matter , and give what assistance they could . In the petition they had stated that three Grand Lodges in Germany excluded Jews , and although this was hardly the case in theory , it was in practice the fact . In a letter from Bro . YYendt , it was stated that Jews were admitted to the three blue degrees by the Royal York

Lodge of Friendship . This implied that they wero admitted , and this was all the concession that was made . A letter from Bro . Findel was referred to , and after some further discussion , Bro . C . Eskell proposed , and Bro . Brail seconded , that a further sum of £ 5 be voted from the Lodgo towards paying the expenses incurred by the committee . With reference to the letter from the Joppa Lodge , Bro .

Abrahams remarked that they would be glad to co-operate , but he considered that tho petitions they had in their possession were held by them as trustees , and they ought to hand them over to Grand Lodgo only . Whatever position they eventually took up , they were bound morally , as well as Masonically , to hand over the petitions to Grand Lodge . He stated this that there might bo no

misunderstanding between them and other Lodges , as to the terms on which the various committees would meet . They wero the first to take energetic steps and communicate with tho various Lodges throughout the kingdom ; it was not for their own aggrandisement , but as they had asked other Lodges to give their names , they were bound to make use of them in the way they had promised . Bro . Eskell asked

if any letters had been received in opposition to the petition , and was answered in the negative . It was proposed and seconded by Bros . Eskell and Brail respectively , that tho letter from tho Joppa be referred to the Montefiore committee . Full power to act was given to the committee , after which Bro . Breidenbach proposed that the W . M . sign the petition on behalf of the Montefiore Lodgo . This was

seconded by Bro . Cooper , and carried unanimously . Bro . P . M . Abrahams proposed , and Bro . Loewenstark seconded , that Bro . M . Levy be elected on the committee of the Montefiore Lodge , which was carried . The Lodgo was then closed , after which the brethren adjourned for refreshment . A very pleasant evening was spent under the presidency of the W . M . who proposed the usual toasts .

Wandsworth Lodge , No . 1044 . —An excellent gathering of this Lodge , including many visitors , was held at the Spread Eagle Hotel , on Wednesday , the 21 sfc inst . Bro . Landon was very ably raised to tho third degree by Bro . Body P . M . Mr . A . A . Denham was initiated into Freemasonry by Bro . J . G . Carter P . M ., in the

unavoidable absence of Bro . P . Cooke W . M . The Lodgo was closed in due form , and a banquet followed . The Queen and Craft , and other Masonio toasts , were ably given by tho W . M ., followed by the Health of the Initiate . This having been acknowledged , Bro . A . A . Denham responded , and thanked his brethren heartily for the honour they had conferred upon him .
