CRAFT .

UPTON LODGE , No . 1227 . riltlB installation meeting of this Lodgo was held on Thursday of -I- last week , at the Throe Nuns Hotel , Aldgate , and was woll attended by members and visitors . Bro . The minuter of the last meeting having been confirmed , fche Lodge was advanced , nnd Bro . William Fraser was regularly raised . The report of the Audit Committee waa accepted , and then the principal ceremony of fcho day , fche'installation of tbe Worshipfnl Master , waa proceeded with , Bro . Charles Schmidt being installed as chief of the Lodge for fche ensuing year . Subsequently he appointed his

Officers , giving each of those mentioned above a step towards the chair . The installation ceremony was regularly completed , Pasfc Master Toye doing the chief work , and securing a vote of thanks on its completion , passed unanimously with the hearty approval of the members and visitors .

A circular letter waa read from the members of the Worthing Lodge , asking the aid of this Lodge and the Craft generally in relieving some of the distress caused in the town by the dreadful visitation of typhoid fever . By their letter fche brethren of Worthing proved their interest in the cause , and we consider they have made ont a case for such relief as English Freemasonry can afford , and

they will doubtless receive a substantial amount if their appeal for assistance is persevered in ancl brought nnder fche notice of the authorities . The Upton Lodge will consider this , and another appeal made to the members at the same time , in Committee . It was proposed fchafc some recognition of the services of fche Secretary shonld be made , he having faithfully discharged the dnties of fche

office for many years past to the satisfaction of fche members and to the manifest advantage of the Lodge , and ifc was proposed nnd unanimously carried that a Secretary's jewel should be presented to Pasfc Master Free , with the best wishes of the members , and thanks for his services in the past ; coupled with a sincere desiro that ho might long remain among them , and benefit the Upton Lodge by

serving it as faithfully aa he had dono in years gone by . After the reception of a proposition for initiation , and the trausoction of some minor businesp , tho Lodge was closed , tho company adjourning to tho banquet hall , where the remaindar of tho eveuiug was onjoyably passed under tho presidency of tbe new Mnater , who , at the conclusion of tho banquet , proposed tho usual loyal toasts , which

were heartily received . Immediate Past Master Hill gave tho health of the Worshipful Matter , who , be said , was snro to be appreciated dnring his year of office iu tbe Upton Lodge , the members and visitors of which must recognise in him au efficient nnd painstaking ruler . Bro . Schmidt tendered his sincere thanks to his predecessor in the

ohair for the very flattering terms in which he had referred to his efforts , and to tho company present for the hearfcy reception accorded the toast . He felt greatly honoured at having risen to the position he now occupied in the Upton Lodge . Ho had beoa working for it for years , but he had hardly hoped to attain ifc . Having dono so ho •intended to do all thafc lay in his power to justify the confidence that

had been reposed in him . He fully recognised the difficulty of the Work attached to the office , and asanred them he shonld be ready to do as much as they could give him , and , he hoped , with satisfactory results . The toast of the visitors was next given , the Master according them a hearty welcome and expressing the pleasure of the members

of the Upton Lodge at having so many guests . Freemasons were never so happy as when surrounded by a host of friends from other Lodges . On behalf of the members he thanked fche guests for their attendance , hoped they had thoroughly enjoyed themselves , and expressed a desire that they would come again . Bros . E . C . Mulvey , Smith , Horscroft , Watson , and others

acknowledged the toasfc , which was followed by that of the Installing Master ( Bro . Toye ) and the Immediate Past Master ( Bro . Hill ) . The Master referred to the services of these two members in the most flattering terms , hia remarks being fully endorsed by tho members . After replica from the two brethren the remaining toasts were given , and the proceedings were brought to a conclusion in tho usual way .

KENSINGTON LODGE , No . 1767 . rilHE installation meeting took place on tbe 16 fch inst ., at Ladbroke J- Hall , North Kensington , and was attended by a goodly array of members of tho Lodge , together with numerous visitors . The Lodge was opened by Bro . T . C . Freeman W . M ., and Bros . R . Jackson and J . Chin were passed . Tho W . M . then called upon Bro . G . Bead P . M .

J . Clarke and J . G . Bean . The banquet was served in tbe largo hall by Mr , Linscott , after whioh tho W . M . gave the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts , which were received moat cordially . Bro . Sir Somers Vine P . G . D . responded to fche toast of tbe Grand Officers , and expressed the pleasure tbey always felt in discharging

their onerous duties to the satisfaction of fche Craft . He referred to tbe grand work done for Freemasonry by Bro . Cama P . G . T . He had met him iu India and in other parts of fche world , and his services to the Craft were as highly appreciated in all those placea as they were by his numerous Masonio friends in England . Sir Somers Vine concluded by congratulating Bros . J . Clarke and J . G . Be-in on their admission

into Freemasonry , and he predicted that they would be an honour to fche Kensington Lodge . Bro . Cama P . G . T ., who received a most enthusiastic reception , also responded to the toast , and expatiated on tho many advantages of Freemasonry . The health of the W . M . was proposed by the I . P . M ., who

reminded the Lodge that he and fche W . M . were initiated into Freemasonry iu fche same year . AU the members of the Lodge knew fche interest Brjther Mackay took in fche Craft , and he felt snre that the Kensington Lodge would continue to improve in numbers and influence under the guidance of suoh an excellent ruler .

The Worshipful Master thanked the brethren most heartily for their good wishes , and concluded wifch a kind reference to Bro . Free * man , whom he then presented with a Past Master's jewel , whioh had been unanimously voted by the Lodge . The toast of the visitors was responded to by Bros . B . E . H . Goffin P . M ., B . N ., K . Lory P . M ., and S . H . Parkhouse P . M .

Bro . Cama P . G . T . responded to the toasfc of the Masonio Charities , and congratulated the Worshipful Master on having decided fco represent the Lodge as Steward on behalf of the Old People . He hoped the W . M . would have an exceptionally good list , to whioh he should be pleased to subscribe 10 guineas . The Tyler ' s toast concluded one of fche most successful meetings of the popular Kensington Lodge .

PORTSMOUTH TEMPERANCE LODGE , No . 20 G 8 . rpHE monthly meeting was held in the spacious and convenient JL Masonio Rooms at tha Speedwell Temperance Hotel , Commercial Road , Landport , on the 25 th inat ., Bio . Geo . Boyce W . M . Thero were present the full complement of Officers and a number of other members of the Lodge , and visitor ? . of

Aft ^ r the confirmation the minutes , Bro . E . Naylor P . M . 1776 Past Prov . Grand Standard Bearer , and Bro . W . G . Friokt'r , Glittering Star Lodgo , No . 322 , ( Irish Constitution ) chief bandmaster of H . M . S . St . Vincent * , were balloted for and accepted as Joining membfirs .

Mr . Charles Dore , fitter H . M . Dockyard , and Mr . Wm . Rolfe , leading st ) ker H . M . S . " Royal Sovereign " having been balloted for and approved , were regularly introduced , aud initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Feeemasonry by tbe W . M . The business boing concluded aud Lodge closed in due form , tbo brethren sat down to an impromptu , but very enjoyable repast .

HORWICH LODGE , No . 2324

THE usual monthly meeting was held on the 12 th inst ., at the Crown Hotel , Horwich , when there were visiting brethren from Westhoughton present . Bro . Hiudley W . M . presided over a good attendance . After all the business had been transacted an adjournment was made to tho Bay Horse Hotel , where the usual banquet was held , after whioh toasts appropriate to the occasion were honoured .

BRO . A . Koyiner , St . Annes-on-the-Sea , will be instalL . 1 W . M . of this Lodge , at Alderley Edge , ou the first Wednesday in October .

ON Monday , the 18 th iust ., the first anniversary of this Lodge was held , tbe Endowed School being used for the installation of the W . M ., Bro . J . M .
