CEAE T : P R O V IN C IA L .. Lodge of Faith , No . 581 . INSTALLATION OF BROTHER S . ANDREW . fJAHE annual meeting and Festival of St . John took place at the JL Bradford Hotel , Mill Street , Manchester , on Wednesday , 19 th inst . Lodge was opened at an early hour by Bro . Dr . E . Evanson Jones Worshipful Master , and there was a very good attendance ot

members and visitors to witness the installation into the chair of K . S . of Bro . S . Andrew S . VV " . Bro . Thomas Tyers P . M . P . P . G . Std . B . undertook the ceremony , he being assisted by Past Masters Henry Brotherton Brown Treasurer , Chas . H . Grimths , J . Greenup D . C ., G . H . Barnes , J . H . Smith P . D . G . D . C , and Dr . E . E . Jones .

The . fcestival ot St . John followed , and was a very successful function . Loyal and Masonic toasts were pleasantly varied bysongs , recitations , etc ., the contributaries being Brothers Councillor James Polhtt , Edward Roberts P . M . Prov . G-r . TJr ., C . H . Griffiths P . M ., Matthew Goth S . W ., Arthur Mellor Organist , Geo . Mellor Std ., J . Thos . Moorhouse , Hibbert , and Adey .

Bro . James Newton P . G . S . B . Eng . Provincial Grand Sec , who responded on behalf of the Grand Officers , regretted he had not been able to witness the whole of the' ceremony of installation , but congratulated Bro . Tyers and the other Past Masters on the excellence of the work so far as he had seen . He referred to the fact of this being the Jubilee year of the Faith Lodge , wished the

members every prosperity , and anticipated that tney would be ready to perform their share towards the success of the forthcoming Festival in connection with the East Lancashire Systematic Institution . Lord Stanley Provincial Grand Master was expected in the country very shortly , and it would then be possible to fix the date of the meeting .

Bro . C . D . Cheetham Prov . S . G . W . vicariously represented Provincial Grand Lodge , and in thanking the Bretiiren for their hospitality said the visitors had been treated like . princes of the land . Everything had gone very smoothly during Bro . Jones s year , which it must be a pleasure to contemplate , and he felt sure that during their Jubilee year the Lodge of Faith would maintain its high reputation , not forgetting , of course , the various excellent Charities .

Bro . Dr . Jones I . P . M . proposed the health of the Installing Master , to which Bro . Tyers made a very suitable reply . The former also proposed the health of the newly-installed Worshipful Master , saying that Bro . Andrew was the right man in the right

place . He possessed three essentials : tact , common sense , and a magnificent corporeal build , and together with the assistance of Past Masters and Officers , which would be gladly rendered , he was assured' of a successful year . In conclusion he heartily wished him a happy and prosperous term of office .

Bro . Andrew W . M . responded , saying that words could not express the gratitude he felt for the reception which he had received at their hands . Whilst thanking Bro . ' Dr . Jones for his promise of assistance , he felt that it went without saying that that assistance would be generousl y accorded , He thanked Bro , Tyers

for his share of the ceremony which , at his advanced age , was an exceedingly creditable performance , and ought to impress upon the younger Brethren the fact that if they would be equally successful in their work , they must be willing to devote some portion of their time to study .

Bro . C . H . Griffiths P . M . proposed the health of the visitors , to which Bros . W . J . Melling P . M . 2185 P . P . G . Swd . Br ., W . Bee P . P . G . A . D . C . and Geo . Holford P . M . 1077 responded , the former treating his auditors to a very seasonable and eloquent address upon general matters connected with the Craft .

We must not omit to state that during the evening a handsome Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . Dr . Jones , which bore the following inscription :

Presented to BRO . E . EVANSON J ONES P . M ., by the members of the Faith Lodge , No . 5 81 . , 1900 . Brother Jones I . P . M ., in thanking the Brethren for their mark of esteem , reminded them of a desire he had expressed , ¦

when twelve months ago he began the duties of Worshipful Master . It was then his ambition that he might so adapt himself to the situation as to be able to merit their approval in all he did , and upon the completion of his term resign the position to his successor without tarnish . The various approving remarks uttered in his favour that day led him to believe that he had not been unsuccessful in his efforts .

METROPOLITAN : INSTRUCTION . — : o : — Confidence Lodg-e , No . 193 . A HAPPY band of Brothers met at the Hercules Tavern , Leadenhall Street , E . G ., on Wednesday , 19 th inst ., bent on obtaining all the instruction possible during the two hours for which the meetings are held . Bro . S . Fells Worshipful Mastereliect occupied the chair , with Bros . J . Mears S . W ., H . Rowland J . W ., A . E . Green S . D ., W . Hattersley J . D ., J . Done I . G ., Spice P . M . Preceptor , J . K . Pitt Secretary , C . Goovearts Treasurer , Davey D . C ., Simeons , and ^ numerous others .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Simeons being candidate . The ceremony of passing was next gone through , Bro . Geddes being candidate . Lodge was opened in the third degree and the Installation ceremony was rehearsed beautifully , and without a hitch by Bro . Simeons . After the investiture of Officers

Lodge was closed . So enjoyable had the working been that the Brethren felt sorry when the time of closing arrived . Then there were many congratulations to grand old Bro . Pitt , on his return from his holiday ; time deals kindly with him , and the hour glass must have been reversed , he certainly looked twenty years youayor than when we last saw him , and his vigour was that of a young

man . * * » Yarborough Lodge , No . 554 . THE special meeting of this Lodge at which it was arranged to work the Fifteen Sections—on the nth inst . —and which , by the courtesy of Bro . Butlin , host of the usual quarters at the Citizen , Houndsditch , was held at his other establishment , the Red Lion and Spread Eagle , High Street , W hitechapel , was a great

Jaggers Sec . 2615 , and I . Goulston J . D . 1349 ; those of the second degree by Bros . S . B . Lotheim 205 , R . C . Thomson l . G . 2615 , Hall 2015 , J . Oxley , and R . Phillips 1349 ; and those of the third degree by Bros . L . DaCosta , J . Oxley P . M . 1306 , and J . Davis J . W . 1349 .

Several Brethren were elected members of the Lodge , among them being Bros . R . Phillips , T . Deyell , and G . Wheeldon . Bro . D . Moss in complimentary terms proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Bro . T . Cowell , for his excellent work that evening . This was agreed to , and Bro . Cowell acknowledged the compliment .

He said he was never more at home than when among his Brother Masons , and strongly advised the younger members of the Craft to attend their Instruction meetings . As Preceptor of the Lodge he would do his best to make them proficient in the ritual and ceremonies of the Craft .

Bro . Latham Treasurer proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the Brethren who had assisted in the working of the Sections , which was done , and was acknowledged by Bro . Oxley .

New Concord Lodge , No . 813 . THE last meeting fox the year took place on Wednesday of last week , at the Farleigh Hotel , Amherst Road , Stoke Newington . The chair was taken by Brother E . G . Piatt , who received the assistance of Bros . J . Ibbertson S . W ., J . A . Chalk W . M . 1929 J . W .. H . G . Gush P . M . Prec , J . A . Powell Treas ., B . Barton J . D . 2552 Sec , H .
