Church Services.

CHURCH SERVICES .

ON Thursday afternoon a Masonic service was held at the Collegiate Church of St . Saviour ' s , Southwark , to celebrate the Eecord Reign of Her Majesty the Queen , and to assist in paying off the debt of £ 7 , 000 incurred in the restoration of the church . The Earl of Lathom Pro Grand Master attended the service , and he was supported by about 200 present and past

Grand Officers , including Lord Llangattock Prov . G . M . South Wales Eastern Division , Lord Harlech Prov . G . M . North Wales , Sir Offley Wakeman , Bart ., Prov . G . M . Shropshire , W . L . Jackson , M . P ., Prov . G . M . West Yorkshire , E . Letehworth Grand Secretary , Judge Philbrick , Q . C ., Grand Registrar , and many other prominent members of the Craft .

Nearly 2 , 000 persons in all attended the service , the number including many ladies . Masonic clothing was worn , by the Brethren . Archdeacon Sinclair Past Grand Chaplain and Canon Thompson intoned the service ; the Eev . C . V . Childe Grand Chaplain read the first lesson , and the Archdeacon of Essex , Dr .

Stevens Past Grand Chaplain read the second . A very strong choir sang the hymns and the psalms , and Dr . S . E . Hole , Dean of Eochester , one of the Grand Chaplains for the year , preached the sermon , taking for his text Acts viii . 26 , " Sirs , ye are Brethren . " In his discourse the preacher made reference to

Freemasonry , and its principal object—charity , evinced , as he said , by its having in the last few years contributed a quarter of a million of money to its eleemosynary Institutions . He appealed to the Brethren to assist in paying off the debt of St . Saviour ' s , which was built by Freemasons nearly a thousand

years ago . The Bishop of Eochester pronounced the Benediction . The collection in the church amounted to £ 320 , but the total sum given or promised was swollen to £ 2 , 340 . This included £ 1 , 000 from Lord Llangattock , £ 600 from Mr . Alfred Bevan , and £ 4 : 00 made up by the Committee .

A MASONIC service will be held at St . Alfege , Greenwich , to-morrow ( Sunday ) evening , at 6 . 30 , to commemorate the reign of Her Majesty . The sermon will be preached by the "Vicar , Bro . the Eev . Brooke Lambert P . M . P . Z . P . P . G-. Chaplam Staffordshire , and the offertory will be divided between the

Miller Hospital and Eoyal Kent Dispensary and the Seamen s Hospital . A dispensation has been granted by Grand Lodge for the Brethren to wear Masonic clothing , and cloak room accommodation will be provided in the St , Alfege Mission Boom , adjoining the church , where the Brethren are to assemble not later than 6 . 15 p . m .

IT has been suggested that the Brethren of the Brighton Lodges should mark the Queen ' s Eecord Eeign celebration by holding a short service at the Chapel Eoyal on the afternoon of Sunday , 20 th June . The movement , initiated by the Eev . Seymour Penzer Provincial Grand Chaplain of Sussex , and

Incumbent of the Chapel Eoyal , will receive the consideration of the Worshipful Masters of the Brighton Lodges , says the " Sussex Daily News , " and , should it be decided to hold the service , the Brethren will , by special dispensation , wear their Masonic clothing .

THE Eev . Augustus Jackson Provincial Grand Chaplain of Kent intends to hold his annual Masonic Service , at All Saint's Church , Perry Street , Gravesend , on Sunday , 27 th June next , when the Brethren who attend will have the pleasure of listening to a sermon to be preached by Bro . the Eev . Cecil Bevan W . M . of the Knole Lodge , No . 1414 , Junior Grand Chaplain of the Province .

A record has been established by Bro . John Bell , Clydeview House , Dumbarton , who has received the cordial congratulations of the members of Lodge Dumbarton Kilwinning , No . 18 ( S . C . ) on the attainment of the seventieth anniversary of his initiation into the Order and membership of their time-honoured Lodge .

In conveying the felicitations of his fellow Craftsmen to Bro . Bell , Bro . Thomas H . Maeneil W . M . appropriately pointed out that few , if any , Brethren in the three kingdoms could lay claim to such an honourable record . Bro . Bell , who is ninety-five years of age , is still in the enjoyment of excellent health , and continues to take an active interest in the affairs of the Lodge .
