Mark Grand Lodge.

MARK GRAND LODGE .

THE Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge is to be held in Mark Mason ' s Hall , Great Queen Street , Lincoln ' s Inn Fields , on Tuesday next , 1 st June , at five for six o ' clock in the afternoon . The Grand Festival will be held in Freemasons' Tavern , at

7 o ' clock , and the M . W . Pro Grand Master will preside . Tickets , twenty-one shillings each , may be obtained from the Grand Stewards . The following is the Agenda for the meeting of Grand Lodge : —

1 . Read , and , if approved , confirm minutes of Quarterly Communication of 2 nd March 1897 .

2 . REPORT OF THE GENERAL BOARD . During the three months ending 31 st March 1897 , there have been issued s —Mark Certificates , 567 ; total number registered , 36 , 902 . Warrant for one Lodge , No . 504 , Oxford and Cambridge University , Kensington , in the Province of Middlesex . Royal Ark Mariner Certificates , 89 ; total number registered , 5 , 174 .

Warrant for one Ark Mariner Lodge—Gordon Lodge , to be attached to the Gordon Lodge , No . 364 . The Board were informed that the W . Master of the Alfred Lodge , No . 247 , had been installed as W . Master of the University Lodge , 55 , contrary to Article 104 . On consideration the University Lodge was directed to make application for a dispensation , and was fined the sum of one guinea .

The Board recommend that the following addition be made to the Book of Constitutions , to follow Article 136 , " Private Lodges : " " Every Brother who has been advanced to the Mark Degree in a Regular Lodge not under the Constitution of this Grand Lodge ,

shall , previously to his becoming a Member of any Lodge , declare in open Lodge , his adhesion to the Book of Constitutions , and promise due obedience to the Grand Master , and the Rules and Regulations of Grand Lodge , and the fact shall be recorded on the Lodge Minutes . "

The Board have the pleasure to announce that the sum of £ 291 has been repaid by the General Fund to the Educational Fund , and that the said sum has been invested in 2 } per cent , consols . The Board have gratefully accepted from V . W . Brother Richard Eve P . G . M . O ., a large framed engraving of the Installation of His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , K . G ., at the Albert Hall , in 1875 , which they have placed in the Egerton Room .

DEGREE OF ROYAL ARK MARINER . The Antigua Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners having laid certain matters relating to the election of W . Commander N . before the Grand Masters Royal Ark Council , the Grand Secretary was directed to send the following reply : — Dear Sir and Bro ., —I am directed and have the honour to inform you that the case submitted to the Grand Masters Boyal Ark Council by the Antigua Lodge of Royal Ark Mariners , No . 460 , has been most carefully considered , and the Council

rule-That every precedent in the Craft and Mark Degrees shows beyond all doubt that a Brother who has resigned cannot withdraw his resignation . So far back as 1874 it was authoritatively ruled that the moment a Brother says " I withdraw myself from membership , '' he is de facto no longer a member , the moment he says " I resign , " that moment the line is drawn , and his membership is ended .

Such membership cannot be regained until the Brother who has resigned has been regularly proposed , balloted for , and elected in conformity with the Book of Constitutions . Bro . R . H . Kortright Dyatt having resigned in open Lodge , is not a member , and therefore is not eligible for office . His election to the chair of W . C . N , is null and void , and Bro . Hon . A . W . Holmes a Court appears to the Council to be duly qualified as having held the office of Warden for one year

or more . The Council therefore direct that the Lodge should hold at their next regular meeting another election , and select from their numbers an eligible Brother to fill the chair of W . Commander Noah , among which eligible memheis the Council decide that Bro . Holmes a Court is included .

FUND OF BENEVOLENOE . The Board have the pleasure to announce that the Twenty-ninth Anniversary Annual Festival will be held on Wednesday , 7 th July , when the Chair will be taken by the R . W . Bro . Col . A . B . Cook Prov . Grand Master for Middlesex .

The Grand Secretary will be happy to receive the names of Ladies and Brethren willing to act as Stewards . The Board have elected on the Educational Fund without a poll :

Thomas Henry Ernest Hovenden , and Walter Thomas Toms . The Board have to report the death of an annuitant , John Langdon , and under Article 203 , Sub-Clause 13 , the Widow will receive one-half of her late husband's annuity for the space of three years . One case has been relieved * .

Thursday next , 3 rd June , is the latest day by which Petitions for the October Election of the Eoyal Masonic Institution for Girls must reach the office at Freemasons' Hall . It is , however , very desirable that they should be received before that date .
