HENRY MUGGERIDGE LODGE , No . 1 G 70 . rjlIIE Installation meeting of this Lodge wns held on Saturday , J- 22 nd May , at Bro . Crighton ' s , Prince Georgo Hotel , Parkholmeroad , Dalston . Bros . Henry Mnggeridgo P . M . presided , in the absence of Bro . E . Storr the AV . M ., and was supported by Bros . J . Lorkin S . W ., and H . John J . W ., a 3 well as by a large number of brethren and

the following Visitors : —Bros . J . Weeden P . M . 715 , IT . Bordege P . M . •715 , Greenwood P . M ., AV . Fieldwick AV . M . 1304 , A . McMillan W . M . 1365 , C . Lorkin 1524 , and several others . Tho Lodge having been opened , and the minutes read and confirmed , Bro . J . Lorkin the AV . M . elect was presented , to receive from Bro . Henry Mnggeridgo P . M . the benefit of installation . A Board of Installed Masters was formed ,

and Bro . J . Lorkin was dnly installed as AV . M . of the Lodge , and appointed his Officers , as follow : —Bros . E . Storr I . P . M ., H . John S . W ., H . AVilkin J . AV ., J . B . Seriven P . M . Treasnrer , Henry Leah P . M . Secretary , AV . Darnell S . D ., Sack J . D ., Dyer I . G ., Brown D . C , Marsh Tyler . Bro . II . Muggeridge then dolivered the customary addresses , at tho conclnsion of which the new AV . M . presented Bro .

E . Storr with a Past Mast or s jowel , tho gift of the brethron , in recognition of his services as AV . M . during tho past year , for which ho briefly but appropriately expressed his thanks . The Lodge was then closed , and the brethren repaired to Masons' Hall Tavern , Masons ' Avenue , E . C , where a very excellent banquet was served by Bro . AVood the worthy host , tho Master being supported by his Past

Masters and Visitors . At tho conclnsion of the banqnet tho W . M . gave the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts , which were all duly responded to , the toast of the Queen being followed by tho National Anthem . Bros . Boss , Brown , C Lorkin , Edmonds , and F . J . Croger as vocalists . Bro . E . Storr I . P . M . rose and said that the brethren were no doubt aware for what purpose ho had obtained possession of tho gavel ,

namely , to propose the health of Bro . James Lorkin the AV . M . He knew what the W . M . could do , and ho felt sure that he would perform his duties to their entire satisfaction ; it was therefore with great pleasure that he proposed his health . The toast was enthusiastically rooeived and followed by a song from Bro . Edmonds , " Mrs . Brown ' s Tea Party . " The W . M . briefly returned thanks for the very kind manner in which

his health had been drunk . He would endeavour to deservo the honour that had been couferred upon him . The AV . M . next proposed the health of the Immediate Past Master , Bro . E . Storr , which was cordially drunk . After a song by Bro . Boss Brown , Bro . E . Storr thanked the W . M . for the kind manner in which he had proposed his health , and the brethren for the very hearty manner they had

responded to it . If he had done anything to merit their satisfaction he felt highly complimented . The jewel which they had presented to him that evening he was very proud of , and tho recollection of it would ever live in his memory , as it would remind him of the time when the brethren elected him W . M . of their Lodge , their kindness that night proved to him that thoy appreciated what he had tried

to do . In conclusion he thanked the brethren most heartily for the very kind manner in which they had drunk his health , and he hoped to be spared for many years to be amongst them . Bro . Croger here gave his diverting recitation , "Villainy defeated . " The AV . M . proposed the health of Past Master Bro . Henry Mnggeridgo ( the Installing Master ) , who was a Fonndcr , and also the first Master of the

Lodge bearing his name , which was responded to very cordially by the brethren . Bro . Henry Mnggeridgo P . M . returned thanks , and informed the brethren that he was a P . M . of the Lion and Lamb Lodge , in which ho was proud to say the AV . M . was initiated ; he could even say that he was the father of tho Lion and Lamb Lodge , having been initiated forty years ngo . As a P . M . of this Lodge he had endeavoured

to do his duty , and ho would continue to do so as long as he was spared to be amongst them . Tho toast of the Visitors was coupled with the names of Bros . Birdege , AVeeden , and Greenwood , who congratulated Bro . J . Lorkin on having attained the high position of W . M ., and felt assured from the diligence ho had shown he

would discharge his duties to their entire satisfaction . The Tyler ' s toast was then given , and the brethren separated , after spending a very enjoyable evening . Members present—Bros . At the reqnest of Bro . Ilosenbusch , Bro . Broadley P . D . D . G . M . assumed charge of the Lodge ; and passed Bro . Chevalier to the second degree . The work being resumed in the

E . A . degree , a letter was read from tho Italian Lodgo in Tunis , announcing the death of the G . M . of Italy Senator G . Mazzoni . It was afterwards resolved to write our Italian brethren a letter of condolence , and place the Lodge in mourning till the summer vacation .

Tho P . D . D . G . M . alluded at some length to tho pleasnro experienced by the Lodge at tho presence . of tho three distinguished visitors at his side , and presented Bros . Guest and Hambro with bound and inscribed copies of the Italian edition of tho Bye-Laws and Book of Constitutions published by the Lodge . On tho proposition of AV . M . Dr . Perini , seconded by tho S . AV ., these brethren were unanimousl y

elected honorary members , and presented with tho Lodge diploma as such . Bro . M . Guest returned thanks in an eloquent and instrnctivo speech . He told tho brethren that tho great interest which their excellent working and tho harmonious feeling prevalent amongst them wonld havo under any circumstances excited in his mind was , if possible , increased by the fact that tho founder of their Lodge and

first W . M . now in the chair was a Dorsetshire Mason . Bro . Perini had continued tho good work commenced by Bro . Broadley , and ho exhorted them one and all to porsovero in their endeavours to main , tain and propagate English Masonry in tho midst of a foreign conntry . Bro . Guest resumed his seat amidst tokens of approbation , and Bro . Hambro in a few well chosen sentences expressed his satisfaction

with all he had seen of Masonry in Tunis both m and out of tho Lodge . Tho P . D . D . G . M . then brought before the Lodge an appeal for aid . Ho said that a few nights ago tho British S . S . Mary Driver foundered off Capo Bianco , on tho Tunisian coast . The captain , Bro . James Lowrie AVood ( whom ho had reason to believe was an old Mason , bolouging to the Lion Lodgo , No . 312 at AVhitby ) , was

drowned , but the chief mate , Bro . Reuben Lee . AVebstor , of St . John a Lodge , No . 175 , at Greenock , Scotland , was rescued and present amongst them that evening , though he had just quitted the hall . Ho asked tho brothren to give some aid to Bro . AVebster to enable him to proceed with some degree of comfort to his native land . The D . of C . circulated the " sac de bienfaisance " which yielded £ 2 14 s . Bro .

AVebster re-entered the Lodge and had this sum handed to him . Ho returned thanks to tho brethren , and said as soon as he regained his former position he wonld take care to devote the sum he had now received as a distressed Mason to relieve the afflictions of somo equally unfortunate brother . The Lodge then adjourned , and Bros . Gnest and Hambro retired . On work being resumed , Bro . Babian was raised to tho third degree , and the Lodge was lowered . Before

closing , a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Rosenbusch D . D . G . M . for his kindly visit to the Lodge he had virtually founded . Bro . Eosenbnsch expressed his satisfaction at their progress , and promised to further assist Bro . AVebster in Malta if necessary . He entreated them to redouble , if possible , the exertions thoy had put forth during the past three years . The Lodge was then closed , at a somewhat late hour .

THE first annual festival of this Lodge was held at the Assembly Booms , AValton-on the-Naze , Essex , on Thursday , 20 th May , when there was a full attendanco of members and visitors . The AV . M elect , AV . Bro . Edward Dorling , was installed as AV . M . for tho ensuing year by AV . Bro . Alfred Welch P . M . 51 P . P . J . G . W . Essex , in a most impressive mannor , and at the closo the following wore invested as Officers for the ensuing year : —AV . Bros . B . A . Arnold I . P . M ., C .

In the course of the proceedings it was announced that sinco the consecration of tho Lodge by Lord Skclmersdale ( now Earl of Lathom ) , about a year ago , twenty-six brethren had been initiated and twenty-eight had joined ,

and , notwithstanding the necessarily heavy expenses of founding a Lodge , they were free from debt . A special vote of thanks was passed by acclamation to AV . Bro . B . A . Arnold the first AV . M ., and after whom tho Lodge is named , for his munificenco during his year of office . On taking the chair W . Bro . Dorling presented to the Lodge a Steward ' s

collar and jowel , as a memento of the occasion . After the bnsiness , about fifty brethren sat down at tho Marino Hotel , to a rCcherchi banquet , served < l la Russe by tho new landlord , Bro . Fleck , in a manner that showed him to bo a worthy successor to Bro . Dorling . Tho usual Masonic toasts were given during the evening and heartily responded to .

Frederick of Unity Lodge , Wo . 452 . —The meeting for election of W . M . and Treasurer of this Lodge took place on Tuesday , tho 18 th inst ., at the Greyhound Hotel , Croydon . There wero present Bros . Charles Pawley AV . M ., E . H . Sugg S . AV ., F . A . Manning J . W ., James Robins P . M . Treasurer , Magnus Ohren P . M . G . A . D . C . Secretary , J . C . F . AV . The namo of a candidate , who had been already balloted for , appeared on tho agenda paper , but ho was unable to be present for initiation on this occasion , and consequently

his election , according to the bye-laws , fell through . Tho choice of the members was unanimous in favour of Bro . E . H . Sugg , who therefore will bo installed as AV .
