The Companions havinjr taken their appointed seats , tho members of the Provincial Grand Chapter entered , and tho proceedings were opened by the reading and

confirming of the minutes of the preceding Grand Chapter , held at Hull in 1879 . The balance-sheet , which was considered very satisfactory , was then read by the Prov . Grand Treasurer Comp . R . W . Hollon , and was unanimously adopted . Other business , mainly of a rontine character , followed , and the Grand Superintendent then rend an interesting paper on the subject of " Royal Arch Freemasonry . " It

was announced that the next Provincial Grand Chapter would be held at the Denison Chapter , Scarborough , in 1881 , on the invitation of that Chapter . The Grand Superintendent took the opportunity of thanking the Zetland Chapter for the very complete arrangements they had made , which wero highly appreciated by the Companions present . He next announced the following as the Prov .

proceedings then terminated , and the Companions adjourned to Marker ' s Hotel , where an excellent collation was served by Bro . Matthews . The M . E . Grand Superintendent of the North and East Ridings presided , and in proposing the toast of n . R . H . the Prince oF AValcs , Most Excellent Grand Principal of England , referred to the fact that ho was that day laying the foundation-stones of a Cathedral at

Truro , iu the presence of a largo assembly of r reemasous , and ho hoped that it was tho inauguration of a now era in Masonry in tho acknowledgment that it was tho privilege of Grand Musters to lay tho foundation-stones of such edifices as that to which ho had referred . Truro Cathedral , he said , might bo expectod to vie

architecturally with their Cathedral at York . It was much after tho same stylo—the twelfth or thirteenth century—and tho money which had been collected for tho construction simply of the shell was something like £ 90 , 000 . A number of other toasts were drunk , and the evening was spent iu harmony .

THIS Chapter held its annual meeting on Wednesday , tho 19 th inst ., at the Terminus Hotel , Southend-on-Sea . Comps . Rov . H . J . Hatch was installed Z ., AV . Pissey II ., and E . Judd J ., tho ceremony being very ably performed by E . Comp . Jas . Terry P . Z . 228 , Prov . G . D . C . Herts , to whom a cordial voto was given by the Comps . for his kindness . Tho following Officers for the onsning year wero

also invested , viz . .- —Comps . J . A . AVardell P . Z . Scribo E ., G . F . Jones Scribo N ., Rev . A . F . Heaton Prin . Soj ., F . AVood 1 st Assist , and J . Girling 2 nd Assist . Soj ., A . Phillips P . Z ., AV . Belcham and H . Beecher . A candidato for exaltation was proposed , the Chapter wa 3 duly closed , and the Comps . adjourned to banquet . The usual loyal and R . A . toaat 3 were given and heartily responded to , Comp . Terry , in an eloquent speech , returned thanks for the Masonio Charities . The Janitor ' s toast closed the proceedings .

GLOBE . —No suitable novelty of the light opera type being at hand to take the place of the ' * Tho Navel Cadets , " somowhafc suddenly withdrawn , Mr . Henderson imagined , perhaps wisely , that the public might be ready to re-awaken their memories of " Les Cloches de Corneville . " The piece has already obtained the second longest run on record , and was only removed from the boards as recently as Easter last . Nothing has been spared to render the revival a success ;

new scenery and new costumes combining to increase tho attraction , with the result that the house was well filled on Saturday , the night of its reproduction . The performers who contributed most to the popularity of the piece during its recent representation are again in their places . Miss Violet Cameron as tho charming Germaine , Miss Emma Chambers as Serpolette , Mi * . Shiel Barry as the old miser , and Mr . Harry Paulton as the stupid Bailen , could not well be im . proved upon in their respective characters .

AVe lately had the pleasure of paying a visit to the Royal Polytechnic , and were very pleased to see the vast improvements which have been made there . This well known Institution is now under new management , and we wish the directors every success . The building has been repainted and redecorated throughout ; statues , & c , havo been introduced at each end of the Hal , while the entrances

and recesses are decorated with choice plants . Tho Institution is opened three times a day , instead of twice as formerly ( from 10 till 1 , 2 til ! 5 , and from 6 till 10 ) . The programme submitted is both varied and entertaining . The dissolving views , " London as ifc was and is , " explained by Mr . Daniel , are plain and distinct , making one feel qnito at homo in the various scenes represented . " The Magician

Foiled , a new Fairy and Ghost Story , " a class of entertainment for which the Polytechnic is famed , is next brought before tho visitors . In it Miss Alice Burnelle explains the story , and indeed does all tho talking for tho actors , the members of this Institntion not being allowed to transform their entertainments into stage plays . Blondin and Leo . tard , two life-sized figures , do some very wonderful tricks ; Blondin

walks across the Hall on a rope , and also wheels a barrow across , a very difficult feat for an automaton . Leotard goes through a series of gymnastic tricks in a life-like inanucr . Theso two figures wero invented and constructed for the Institution by Mr . Seraphicus Pichlcr At one end of the Hall an illnminated fountain has beeu erected , which throws water of apparently different colours into the Diving Tank . The Cosmoramic Views are very good , and well worth seeing .

On Monday , the 31 st inst ., at Myddelton Hall , Upper-street , Islington , Bro . E . Roberts , Organist of AVest Smithfield Lodge , No . 1023 , will give his annual Grand Evening Concert . Tho following artistes will give their services on the occasion , namely , Miss Elcne Webster , Miss Clara Perry ( by the kind permission of M . Carl Rosa ) , Mdme . Osborne AVilliams , and Miss Ellen Marchant . Messr 3 . Stedman ,

Gerrard Coventry , John Child , George Eustace , James Sauvage and F . Glive . Madame Coventry of tho Promenade Concerts , Covent Garden , and Herr Josef Trouselle will preside at the pianoforte , and Mr . H . S . AVebster will take upon himself the duties of conductor . Tho Concert will commence at 8 p . m . Tickets , price 3 s , 2 s , and Is each , to bo had of the music sellers and Bro . Roberts , 15 Upper Barnsburystrect . We trust Bro . Roberts will have a well-filled house .

PRIORY CHAPTER , No . 1000 .

THIS Chapter held its annual meeting on Wednesday , tho 19 th inst ., at the Terminus Hotel , Southend-on-Sea . Comps . Rov . H . J . Hatch was installed Z ., AV . Pissey II ., and E . Judd J ., tho ceremony being very ably performed by E . Comp . Jas . Terry P . Z . 228 , Prov . G . D . C . Herts , to whom a cordial voto was given by the Comps . for his kindness . Tho following Officers for the onsning year wero

also invested , viz . .- —Comps . J . A . AVardell P . Z . Scribo E ., G . F . Jones Scribo N ., Rev . A . F . Heaton Prin . Soj ., F . AVood 1 st Assist , and J . Girling 2 nd Assist . Soj ., A . Lucking P . Z . Treas ., and A . Martin Janitor . Amongst others there were also prosent—Comps . E . E .

Phillips P . Z ., AV . Belcham and H . Beecher . A candidato for exaltation was proposed , the Chapter wa 3 duly closed , and the Comps . adjourned to banquet . The usual loyal and R . A . toaat 3 were given and heartily responded to , Comp . Terry , in an eloquent speech , returned thanks for the Masonio Charities . The Janitor ' s toast closed the proceedings .

GLOBE . —No suitable novelty of the light opera type being at hand to take the place of the ' * Tho Navel Cadets , " somowhafc suddenly withdrawn , Mr . Henderson imagined , perhaps wisely , that the public might be ready to re-awaken their memories of " Les Cloches de Corneville . " The piece has already obtained the second longest run on record , and was only removed from the boards as recently as Easter last . Nothing has been spared to render the revival a success ;

new scenery and new costumes combining to increase tho attraction , with the result that the house was well filled on Saturday , the night of its reproduction . The performers who contributed most to the popularity of the piece during its recent representation are again in their places . Miss Violet Cameron as tho charming Germaine , Miss Emma Chambers as Serpolette , Mi * . Shiel Barry as the old miser , and Mr . Harry Paulton as the stupid Bailen , could not well be im . proved upon in their respective characters .

AVe lately had the pleasure of paying a visit to the Royal Polytechnic , and were very pleased to see the vast improvements which have been made there . This well known Institution is now under new management , and we wish the directors every success . The building has been repainted and redecorated throughout ; statues , & c , havo been introduced at each end of the Hal , while the entrances

and recesses are decorated with choice plants . Tho Institution is opened three times a day , instead of twice as formerly ( from 10 till 1 , 2 til ! 5 , and from 6 till 10 ) . The programme submitted is both varied and entertaining . The dissolving views , " London as ifc was and is , " explained by Mr . Daniel , are plain and distinct , making one feel qnito at homo in the various scenes represented . " The Magician

Foiled , a new Fairy and Ghost Story , " a class of entertainment for which the Polytechnic is famed , is next brought before tho visitors . In it Miss Alice Burnelle explains the story , and indeed does all tho talking for tho actors , the members of this Institntion not being allowed to transform their entertainments into stage plays . Blondin and Leo . tard , two life-sized figures , do some very wonderful tricks ; Blondin

walks across the Hall on a rope , and also wheels a barrow across , a very difficult feat for an automaton . Leotard goes through a series of gymnastic tricks in a life-like inanucr . Theso two figures wero invented and constructed for the Institution by Mr . Seraphicus Pichlcr At one end of the Hall an illnminated fountain has beeu erected , which throws water of apparently different colours into the Diving Tank . The Cosmoramic Views are very good , and well worth seeing .

On Monday , the 31 st inst ., at Myddelton Hall , Upper-street , Islington , Bro . E . Roberts , Organist of AVest Smithfield Lodge , No . 1023 , will give his annual Grand Evening Concert . Tho following artistes will give their services on the occasion , namely , Miss Elcne Webster , Miss Clara Perry ( by the kind permission of M . Carl Rosa ) , Mdme . Osborne AVilliams , and Miss Ellen Marchant . Messr 3 . Stedman ,

Gerrard Coventry , John Child , George Eustace , James Sauvage and F . Glive . Madame Coventry of tho Promenade Concerts , Covent Garden , and Herr Josef Trouselle will preside at the pianoforte , and Mr . H . S . AVebster will take upon himself the duties of conductor . Tho Concert will commence at 8 p . m . Tickets , price 3 s , 2 s , and Is each , to bo had of the music sellers and Bro . Roberts , 15 Upper Barnsburystrect . We trust Bro . Roberts will have a well-filled house .

On Thursday , tho 3 rd proximo , at the Angoll Town Institution , Gresham Road , Brixton , Miss Annio Matthews will give her fir 3 t Annual Concert , when tho following artists have undertaken to g ive their services , namely : — -Madame Worrell , Miss Matilda Raby , Miss Marian Burton , Miss Emma Bucr , and Messrs . Arthur J . Thompson ,

E . E . Dear , James BodJ , J . iSettleship , and C Pompe . Solo Pluto , Mr . C Spencer AVest ; Solo Pianoforte , Herr Carl AVeber ; while Mr . James Tarle Lee will act as Conductor . The Concert wilt commence at Eight p . m ., and carriages must be ordered for Ten p . m . Admission , 3 s , 2 s , Is . AVe trnst the fair artist will be well supported .
