MARK BENEVOLENT FUND .
THE Provincial Grand Mark Master of Middlesex Bro . Col . A . B . Cook has kindly consented to take the chair at the nexfc Festival of this Fund , which will be held on the 14 th July 1897 , when it is hoped that hearty and cordial co-operation will
result in aid of this useful and deserving charity , the claims of which should be paramount with every Mark Mason , as affording to the distressed Brother , his Widow and famil y , not only temporary relief , but also an annuity for the aged , and education for the young .
It is urged that while the great Masonic Charities receive contributions from every Masonic Order , the Mark Benevolent Fund is almost entirely maintained by the Mark degree , and
that it is supported by Mark Masons for the benefit of Mark Masons . It is sincerely hoped that in view of the advantages bestowed on every deserving applicant , the Chairman of 1897 will receive the most unqualified support on the occasion of his presidency . Further information , lists of subscribers , and petitions for grants , & c , may be obtained on application to Bro . C . Fitzgerald Matier P . G . W . Mark Grand Secretary .
H . R . H . the Prince of "Wales has granted a Warrant for a Lodge fco be called the "Byfield , " of which Bro . James Boulton P . M . of several Lodges and Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies England , is to be the first W . M . The new Lodge
will be held at the Great Eastern Hotel , but the date of consecration has not been communicated . Brother Boulton will be congratulated by his numerous friends on having made an addition to his honours by this increase of Masonic numbers . — "East London Observer . "
Lively times seem to be in store for East Ham . A new Masonic Hall is in course of erection at the rear of the Denmark Arms , and the amended p lans for the same were approved by the Works Committee on 23 rd July last . The builder , counting his chickens before they were hatched ,
immediately commenced operations , with the result that when the plans came before the East Ham Urban District Council for acceptance or rejection the building was in an advanced stage of construction . The Council declined to pass the plans , and served an order on the builder to pull down the Masonic Hall , as far aa
ifc was advanced , within fourteen days . This the builder declines to do , and threatens an action for trespass if torce is used . The Council , being of opinion that a legal m- ney penalty will not fit the case , have decided to demolish the building themselves , and information has been given to the police of their intention . A free fight is expected . — " Citizen . "
