brethren to attend our schools of preceptors , to make them proficient in their duties , and to secure dignity in the discharge of their respective functions . Ho likewise mentioned the project in hand for raising £ 1 , 000 by shilling tickets , on tho principle of an art nnion , entitling every purchaser to participate in a ballot for Life Govonorahips of the Bnys' School . He further stated that upward s of

6 , 000 tickets were already distributed . Bro . Constable resumed his seat , thanking the brethren on behalf of the Visitors . Tho toast of the " Past Masters" followed , and was enthusiastically received . Bro . Turner replied , apologising for his youth and apnaront presumption in returning thanks for this toast , as there wero Past Masters who had hold that position ranging from thirty . five years downwards , and the example they had set the younger members was one worthy

of emulation . He particularl y thanked them for tho unostentatious assistance ho had always received at their hands ; he was sure that whatever duty tho Past Masters might bo called upon to discharge , they would be always found ready and willing . Tho health of the following brethren was then given , viz ., tho Secretary , Chaplain , S . W , and J . W ., W . S ., & c , to which Bros . Britten and Shaboo replied . Tho former thanked the W . M . and the members for their congratulations

G ., on Wednesday , the 25 th inst ., for the purpose of listening to the working of tho sections . Bro . W . Rnddorforth occupied the chair , Austin S . W ., Horsley J . W ., Yetton P . M . Bro , Rudderforth had con . ferred upon him honorary membership , likewise a vote of thanks was recorded upon the minutes for his maiden attempt at working the Sections . Bro . Ruddwforth then replied : It was in the Con . fidence Lodge he first saw the light , and hence bo felt bound to

support the Instruction Lodge under its banner . He was indebted to Bros . Gottheil , Barnes , Yetton and Austin , more particularly the latter , for the greater part of his knowledge ; he likewise tendered thanks to the brethren who had assisted in the work of the evening , and proposed a vote of thanks to them . Daniel , Laroon , Botiboi , Bedell . The Lodge was opened in due form . Bro . Daniel offering himself as candidate , the ceremony of passing and raising was duly rehearsed by the W . M . Bro . Hill was elected to the chair for the ensuing Tuesday , at 7 . 30 p . m . The Craft are fraternally invited to attend , every opportunity being given for members to work , according to their position .

Worcester Lodge , No . 280 . —The brethren have just removed their habitation from the Bell Hotel to private rooms , called the " Masonic Hall , " in Hign . street . The Lodge dates from the 2 nd

Its formal consecration took place on the 19 th of May following , on which day tho members attend- *! divino service at St . Martin ' s Church , their Lorlge . room being fixed at the Ruindonr Inn , in that parish . Tho sermon was preached by tho Rov . Bro . Hoynes , from tho text , " And lot ns consider one another , to provoke unto

lovo and to good works . In 1797 the Lolgo removed for a short time to the Star Hotel , but returned to tho ltaindier , and there remainod until 1812 , when it was removed to the Bell Hotel , where it has continued to meet until tho present year . The brethren havo been long desirous to acquire private rooms for their meetings , but no shitablo opportunity has before occurred . They now possess a

Lodgo-r : om of noble dimensions , with a suitable dining-room , and all other necessary conveniences . Tho inaugural meeting took place on tho 5 th instant , under the presidency of the Worshipful Master , Major W . Stallard , when the brethren formally dedicated their new homo to tho purposes of the ancient Craft , an eloquent prayer being said by the Rev . Chaplain , J . B . Wilson , rector of St . Helens , con .

eluding with tho words which formed the text of the Rev . Bro . Hoynos 86 years ago . The business of the Lodge consisted principally in passing throe recently-admitted brethren , H . Caldicott , H . G . Bndd , and the Rov . C . Gregson . Votes of thanks were given to those brethren whose valuable services have been given to the preparation and fitting up of the new rooms for their purpose , as

also to Aid . Josiah Stallard , tho lessor , for his aid in meeting the wishes of tho Lodge respecting the alteration of the building . The brethren afterwards partook of refreshment , supplied by Mr . Mountford in his usual satisfactory manner . Amongst those present were the W . M . Major Stallard , Past Masters Sir E . A . H . The Metropolitan Chapter of Improvement holds its weekly meetings every Tuesday , at the Jamaica Coffee House , St , Michael's Alley , Cornhill , where thoso who are desirous of perfecting themselves iu the difficult duties appertaining to the Royal Arch degree will find opportunity of doing so . There are always Companions present not only willing , but competent ^ to

impart instruction . The room is spacious and the neighbourhood quiet—no unimportant qualification to render a visit profitable . On our last visit we found the very able Comp . John Constable occupying the first chair . His rendering of the ceremony was iu accordance with what is always expected of him , especially as he had the

assistance of Comps . Lemann H ., Gottheil J ., White S . E ., and Major Finney P . S ., whose style of working is well known . The Chapter well deserves the active support of Royal Arch Masons , as the work is excellent , the position central , and tho time early . Business com . mences at 6 . 30 , and ends at 8 . 30 .

Frederick Chapter of Unity , No . 452 . —This Chapter m ? fc at the Greyhound , Croydon , on Tuesday , 24 th instant . Companion E . A . Baber M . E . Z ., Bro . Frederick Julius Macaulay of Lodge No . 142 was exalted , and Companion William Beattie of Chapter 291 elected a joining member . E . Companion Masterman was installed in tho chair of Z . Present—Comps . Magnus Ohren , Robins , Francis , Sugg , Harty , Spencer and others . A cheerful evening followed tho banquet .

Thomtree Lodge , No . 512 . —This Lodge hold its regular fortnightly meeting on Saturday , 21 st October , at the Hall , Thornliebank , and was opened at 7 p . m . by Bros . R . Scobie R . W . M , R . Fletcher S . W ., R . McEwan J . W ., Wm . Jardino T ., Edw . Schindler Secretary , and Bro . J . Harner P . M . Two candidates wero proposed and accepted for initiation , but owing to the inclemency of tho

weather they did not attend , and some local business was transacted , after which the Lodge was placed for a short time in the hands of the J . W . The Master , after giving the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts , gave that of the " Visitors , " replied to by Bro . G . W . Wheeler , for the youngest Lodge in Scotland , "The Albert Edward 592 . " He dwelt on the spirit evinced by this young lodge , who only got their

working letter on the 14 th , and turned out so well in the grand procession on the 17 th . Bro . J . Gunn J . W . replied , thanking the members of the Thorntrce , his Mother Lodge , for tho assistance they had rendered them , especially their Master , who had come over and passed and raised their first lot of candidates . Though au officer of the new Lodge , he did nob intend to neglect his mother , 512 . The Lodge was then closed in harmony .

Segontium Lodge , No . 606 . —On Wednesday last the brethren of this Lodge mustered strongly in their elegant Masonio Hall , within the ancient castle of Carnarvon , to witness the installation of Bro . J . Sidney Boucher as W . M . for the ensuing year . The ceremony was ably performed by Bro . J . B . Boucher , Shrewsbury , assisted by Bro . J . Salmon , Chester . The proceedings were grace ;!

Thomtree Lodge , No . 512 . —This Lodge hold its regular fortnightly meeting on Saturday , 21 st October , at the Hall , Thornliebank , and was opened at 7 p . m . by Bros . R . Scobie R . W . M , R . Fletcher S . W ., R . McEwan J . W ., Wm . Jardino T ., Edw . Schindler Secretary , and Bro . J . Harner P . M . Two candidates wero proposed and accepted for initiation , but owing to the inclemency of tho

weather they did not attend , and some local business was transacted , after which the Lodge was placed for a short time in the hands of the J . W . The Master , after giving the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts , gave that of the " Visitors , " replied to by Bro . G . W . Wheeler , for the youngest Lodge in Scotland , "The Albert Edward 592 . " He dwelt on the spirit evinced by this young lodge , who only got their

working letter on the 14 th , and turned out so well in the grand procession on the 17 th . Bro . J . Gunn J . W . replied , thanking the members of the Thorntrce , his Mother Lodge , for tho assistance they had rendered them , especially their Master , who had come over and passed and raised their first lot of candidates . Though au officer of the new Lodge , he did nob intend to neglect his mother , 512 . The Lodge was then closed in harmony .

Segontium Lodge , No . 606 . —On Wednesday last the brethren of this Lodge mustered strongly in their elegant Masonio Hall , within the ancient castle of Carnarvon , to witness the installation of Bro .
