song in the last , all show the master hand . AVe have only mentioned a few of the principal numbers in the score , but can assure our readers there are plenty of other items in the piece that will be just as much enjoyed . It may be of interest to sec in what way Mr . Brand has worked out his plot . The captain of the Flying Dutchman , Vanderdecken , is caught in a storm , but determines all

the same to round the bay . With an oath he throws a crucifix into the sea , and as a punishment the heavens condemn him to sail the seas until the day of judgment , only once in seven years to be allowed to land , and then compelled to perform some act of penitence . An interval of twenty-one years is here supposed to elapse , and at the opening of the scene we find Elsbeth ,

Vanderdecken's daughter , being wooed by a young sailor named Kendrick , contrary to the wishes of Frau Jan Stofel , her mother by adoption , who wants her to marry a young but bold Baron . Vanderdecken is on land just now , and , identifying his daughter , favours the suit of Kendrick , and thereby gets into the bad graces of Frau Stofel . How the latter tries to have revenge on A

andcrdecken is worked out in splendid style , but in the end the young couple are wedded , and Vanderdecken , having accomplished his mission in finding his daughter and securing her happiness , disappears as suddenl y as he came , and everything closes in harmonious fashion . Mr . Harry S . Parker ' s company do splendid work in the interpretation of the play , one and all working hard

to achieve success . AA ' e congratulate Mr . J . M . Jones as Vanderdecken ; Mr . F . W . Couch , a clever and amusing actor who got all he could out of the part of an innkeeper ; Mr . Edward Kipling , as the bold Baron , sings and dances well ; Messrs . Arthur Gallimore and Stockall AA ard arc entertaining in their dancing and knockabout business ; Mr . Frank Land , whose rich voice w-as much

appreciated ; Mr . Colin Bryce , a manly and sweet voiced Kendrick ; Miss Nell Gilmour , as Frau Jan Stofel ; Miss Agnes Molteno , whose singing was certainly one of the treats of the evening ; and last , but not least , Miss Lottie Liegenburg , as full of fun as positively could be , in the character of a maid at the inn . The

ladies and gentlemen who form the chorus have been well trained and do their work in pleasing style . In conclusion , if Mr . Brand will give Hannah and the Baron a little more to do , and cut out some of the business between Nickel and Klaus , we think he will find " The Fisher Girl" even a bigger success on the long tour it has just started on than what already appears to be likely .

The Silver Slipper —Mr . Tom B . Davis ' s London touring company performing the very successful musical comedy , "The Silver Slipper , " will commence its suburban tour at the Kennington Theatre on Monday next , 30 th inst . The parts created by Mr . "Willie Edouin and Miss Connie Ediss , Samuel Twanks and Bella Jimper , will be played by Mr . Charles E . Stevens and Miss Pattie Browne respectively . Miss Ethel Svdncv

takes the part of Stella , the peccant maiden , who has been banished from A ' enus . Miss Lulu Valli assumes the role of AA rcnnc , the daughter of the broken clown old sport Twanks ; to Miss Adelaide Astor falls the part of Brenda Shallamar , whilst Miss Marie Durand , the celebrated vocalist , is also one of the company . Mr . Tom B . Davis has spared no pains or expense in equipping this most representative company , no less a sum than , £ 3 , 500 having been expended over the dresses alone .

Presentation to Bro . H . B . Marshall .

THERE was a large attendance of residents and others interested in the AVard of Farringdon AA ithout in the hall of St . Bride ' s Institute on the 23 rd inst ., to witness the presentation of a gold chain and badge of office to Bro . Horace Brooks Marshall ,

one of the Sheriffs-elect for the ensuing year . Sir Edward Lawson presided and in making the presentation said it was fifty years since he commenced his work in the parish of St . Bride , and during that period he had had the pleasure of knowing not only the Sheriff-elect , but his father and grandfather before him . The object of their meeting was to pay a tribute of respect to one who had worthily maintained the traditions of a family which had long bee

n distinguished for industry , for enterprise , and for fair and honourable dealing . He then invested Bro . Marshall with the chain and badge . The chain , set in brilliants , contains his family arms , and those of the Loriners " . Stationers ' , and Spectacle Makers' Companies , to which Bro . Marshall belongs , with a key , which denotes his connection with I-reemasonry , and the arms of Dublin University , of which he is a Master of Arts .

Bro . Marshall , in response , said he could only assure them how greatly he appreciated the kind compliment that had been paid him . He should always value the chain , and when wearing it think of those kind friends who had presented it . He had been told that he was a young man to be a Sheriff , but he would not apologise for that . This century was the age of the young and

that had been shown especially in connection with journalism Under the help and guidance of the All-wise Ruler of the Universe he hoped to discharge his duties to the satisfaction of his friends and that of the citizens of London . In a few graceful words Bro Marshall then acknowledged for his wife the presentation of a diamond brooch .

Mr . J . H . Lile said the album which was presented with the chain contained the names of between 200 and 300 subscribers including many of the members of the Corporation . A sum remained in hand , and this would form the neucleus of a fund for decorating the ward on 9 th November .
