SCOTTISH MASONRY .

ON Thursday , the 12 th inst ., a novel ceremony took place in the Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh , when the Grand Master presented a banner to Lodge Journeymen , No . 8 . There was a large gathering of Brethren , but the meeting was not confined wholly to Masons , there being several ladies also present .

The Grand Master of Scotland was accompanied by Lady Saltoun , and his Lordship explained he had been led to present the new banner through the interest he had taken in the old standard of the Lodge , which he had seen on a visit in December last .

Lady Saltoun , who had travelled from London , for the purpose of presenting the banner , which bears the arms of the Grand Lodge , of Lord Saltoun , and of No . 8 Lodge , said they must not expect from her a speech on Masonry , because she knew that the duty of every good Mason was to conceal the secretB

of the Craft from his wife . But she would take that opportunity of thanking them all for the many kindnesses they had shown to Lord Saltoun in the exercise of his functions as Grand Master of Scotland . Her Ladyship then handed over the banner amid loud applause .

The W . M . of the Lodge Bro . John Walker , in accepting the banner , presented Lady Saltoun with a gold bracelet as a souvenir of the esteem in which she was held by Lodge Jonrneymen .

Lady Saltoun suitably acknowledged the gift . An ode in celebration of the occasion was recited by the Bard of Lodge No . 8 Bro . Macfarlane , after which cake and wine were served .

Past Master Wood was afterwards presented by the Lodge with a Past Master ' s jewel , in recognition of his services during his occupancy of the chair . In the evening the Grand Master , Lady Saltoun , and their Bon where present at the Theatre Eoyal , on the occasion of a

Masonic night in compliment to Bro . Carl Lyle of the Comic Opera Company , A number of the members of the Lodge of Edinburgh , No . 1 had decorated the front of the box with flowers ,

and on the arrival of Lord and Lady Saltoun a deputation entered , and Miss Henderson , the daughter of the popular Master of No . 1 , presented her Ladyship with a beautiful bouquet , which she received with much gratification .
