— : o : — GRAFT . — : o : — MEDINA LODGE , No . 35 .

A MASONIC Banquet on shipboard is at once a novelty and a pleasant change , and the Lodge being the Medina makes it doubly a propos to hold the same actually on the river . Tho visitor ( before the ceremony ) expected to be surprised , truth to tell he Jwaa fairly astonished . First , with the approaches , that were formed into oorridors of bunting , whioh led into the magnificent saloon of the ss . Prince of Wales , which was like a palace of the

Arabian Nights called into existence by some " Geni of the lamp . " Coloured fairy lights , burning with a soft refulgenoo , shed a subdued ¦ been around , in perfect keeping with the Eastern scene , while the many mirrors repeated the picture , making it a continued vista of delight . Then came the table decorations , which seemed to be specially placed for the oocasion , costly pines , choice grapes , and

tempting dates , stood amid the shining silver on the snowy damask , between which were seen rare exotic blooms , with palms , ferns and grasses . While admiring and wondering who the Geni and Genns could he , we turn , to find him in propria personam , Mr . Mark Smith , Steward and Caterer of the noble vessel afore named , and at once , the hearty welcome came , in words that carried the ring of troth in

every sylable . But quickly the scene begins to change ; at a word , swiftly moving forms are seen gliding quietly around , mysterious bottles appear , then a soroop and a glnok is hoard , and there the clarets and hooks stand ready for duty , battalions of Bass and Co . bringing up the rear , awaiting commands , whilo further on spirits peep from the vasty deep , in fact , nothing has been omitted ,

and M . S ., as he gave the last glance around , smiled the genial smile of inward satisfaction . Now with the sound of the gong , the brethren , bedeoked and bejewelled , oame trooping in , the joints are set , the grace is said and the banquet commences . Baring the banquet various piano solos were performed by Bro . G . W . Fellows , who had oharge of the musical part of the programme .

The oloth having been oleared , Bro . Taylor W . M . gave the health of the Queen , whose family had so long been intimately conneoted with the Craft . The health of H . R . H . the M . M . had been elected Charity Representative , as he felt that he would interest himself in the subject and explain it fully to the brethren . Bro . G . Fellows sen . then sang " Hard Times , " and while this was being done the Charity box was sent round the saloon

and the sum of £ 1 12 6 d was collected in this manner ; the Tyler , Brother Young , gave £ 1 10 s , being profit realised on the sale of Masonio clothing , & c , and various brothers present contributed amounts , whioh brought up the sum to £ 5 12 s 6 d . This added to the £ 3 found in tho box the same day , brought up the total to £ 8 13 s 6 d . The W . M ., in responding to the

toast , said that was a red letter evening , as the sum collected for the Charities exceeded that of any previous banquet of Medina Lodge . All the money collected for Masonio Charities was given spontaneously and without pressure . During the past year the inoome of the Royal Masonio Benevolent Institution amounted to £ 61 , 849 2 s Gd ; for the Royal Masonio Institution for Boys , £ 15 , 837 18 s ; and for the Girls
