THE NEW GRAND OFFICERS . To the Editor of the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE . DEAR SIR AND BROTHER , —At a time when tha M . W . the Grand Master , acting iu conformity with the resolutions recently passed by Grand Lodge , is about to appoint additional Graud Officers , it may not be inopportune to draw the attetition of the Craft in general and
the Metropolitan Lodges in particular , ta the peculiar position of the members belonging to London Lodges . Owing to the comparatively small number of Grand Officers appointed every yevr it is only a favoured few upon whom tho honour cuu devolve , while the metropalis , being distinct from the Provinoe of Middlesex , the
brethren belonging to the numerous Lodges within its circuit are debarred from receiving Provincial rank . Several of these brethren have not only distinguished themselves in working the ritual of the Order , but have rendered considerable assistance to the Masonio Charities and the Craft in geueral . Uufortunately they are too nnmerous to be brought into immediate oontaot with the Grand
Officers , and their claims to recognition remain unnoticed . If , therefore , the Board of General Purposes could promulgate some plan whereby the various metropolitan districts could be converted into Provinces without interfering with the rig ht * and privileges of the Grand Lodge , tho result would be a very large addition to the number of Officers , which would notouly repay mauy deserving men but would form an incentive to tbe brethren generally . Yours faithfully , A RETIRING W . M .
TAUGHT TO BE CAUTIOUS . To the Editor of the FREEMASON ' CHRONICLE . DEAR SIR AND BROTHER , —Adverting to the article which appeared iu jour paper of 12 th November 1892 , Vol . XXXVI ., No . 931 , I think it would have saved the writer a deal of timo and trouble if ho had referred to the Book of Constitutions Article 150 , and if ho had any
doubt as to the interpretation thereof , then referred to the Grand Secretary , who , without doubt , would havo soothed bis feelings . It . will be particularly noticed on reference to the artiole in this paper a great deal of credit is floiuished iu behalf of this brother—Kings must wait their turn—he is a London Mason well known to
Londoners , is a Past Master travelling without a certificate , and for tho last twenty years has rendered g-iod service to the younger members of the Craft in the capacity of '' Preceptor , " but it lacks giving bim credit for a Masonic knowledge of everything . Notwithstanding all this it is apparent that ho would do well to study the
Book of Constitutions with as much avidity as he has ritual . I would point out that perusal of the Book of Constitutions will not fail in setting a brother right scarcely in any difficulty which
arises in a Lodge , and I take credit in stating , as far aa West Cornwall Freemasons are concerned , that the brother aggrieved will find as much talent and hospitality in West Barbary a 8 he bas in all hiB experience ever found in tbe metropolis .
