NEWSTEAD LODGE , No . 47 . THE annual festival was held at the Masonio Hall , last week , when Bro . Samuel Geo . Johnson ( Town Clerk ) P . M . P . G . T . was installed for tho ensuing year . About 120 brethren and visitors were present at the ceremony . Among the latter were the Very

banquet was served . After the cloth was removed , the usual Loyal and Masouio toasts were given , and interspersed with choir selections of vocal aud instrumental music , ably rendered by Bros . Ho suggested the presentation of somo suitable testimonial to B ro . Bro wiling in appreciation of his valued services . Bro . P . H . Bridgman

proposed that the sum of £ 10 be voted to Bro . Browning , to be expended in what way be thought fit . Bro . Stanlake seconded the resolution which was unanimously carried . The annual banquet was fixed for 13 th January , at the Masonio Hall . The brathren afterwards adjourned to the refectory where a pleasant hour waa spent .

J . Charleswortb and Tunnioliff responded on behalf of the Provincial Grand Officers present and past . Bro . Bromley proposed the toast of the Masonio Charities , observing that thoy all felt pleasure in seeing amongst them Bro . McLeod , tbe Secretary for the Masonio Boys' School , and had confidence that the Institution would be well administered . Bro . McLeod , iu responding , referred tp the fact that

it was greatly owing to the efforts of Bros . Greatbaoh and Tnnmcliffe , of tbe Menturia Lodge , that a remedy had been applied to a lamentable state of things in connection with the Boys' School , aud those two brethren deserved the thanks of every member of tho Craft for the action which they had taken in the matter . He thanked the Province of Staffordshire , and especially the brethren of the

Menturia Lodge , for the support which they had given him in his election as Secretary for the Masonio Institution for Boys . With respect to the Charities , Staffordshire had always stood out prominently in the amount of contribution- * , and ha trusted would ever continue to support them . The three principal Masonio Charities wero all deserving support . As to the Boys' School , bo observed

that there had been a cloud banging over it for somo time , bnt that cloud had been removed , and he appealed to them to support tha Boys' School . He also aaked , on behalf of himself , that be should have their confidence . There waa now a new Board of Management , which consisted of Provincial as well as Loodou members , and ha had no donbt whatever that thoy would bring abont an improved state of things in relation to the Schools . Under the present

management , while the School was being conducted efficiently , the working expenses had been reduced to the extent of about £ L 0 a head per annum . Bro . Greatbach proposed the Visiting Brethren , on whose behalf Bros . Bonsor , R . Tooth , Charles Adam . * , aud W . H . Ilowaon responded . Daring the evening vocal muaio waa contributed by several of the brethren , and tho proceedings woro of an enjoyable character .

ON Tuesday , the 14 th inst ., at the Masonio Hall , Hanley , Bro . W . Hampton was installed W . M . for tbe enaning year , in the presence of about 90 brethren . Tho oaremoay was performed by Bro . J . Robinson , the retiring W . M ., assisted by Broa . W . H . Hales P . P . G . S . W ., J . B . Piercy P . P . G . S . W ., T . Biokley P . P . G . J . W ., and Dr . J . S . Crapper P . P . G . A . D . C . The following wer- * appointed tha Officers of tho Lodge for the year : —Bros . E . B . Devereux S . W ., J . Barlow J . W ., the Rov . F . E . Waters Chaplain , W . H . Hales

Salt Stewards , W . Wood Tyler . After tha Lodge had been closed , the brethren adjourned to the Town Hall , where the customary installation banquet was provided by Bro . J . Mnnro . The W . M . presided , and after dinner proposed Tho Queen and the other toasts whioh head the list at Masonic festivals . Bros .

J . Charleswortb and Tunnioliff responded on behalf of the Provincial Grand Officers present and past . Bro . Bromley proposed the toast of the Masonio Charities , observing that thoy all felt pleasure in seeing amongst them Bro . McLeod , tbe Secretary for the Masonio Boys' School , and had confidence that the Institution would be well administered . Bro . McLeod , iu responding , referred tp the fact that

it was greatly owing to the efforts of Bros . Greatbaoh and Tnnmcliffe , of tbe Menturia Lodge , that a remedy had been applied to a lamentable state of things in connection with the Boys' School , aud those two brethren deserved the thanks of every member of tho Craft for the action which they had taken in the matter . He thanked the Province of Staffordshire , and especially the brethren of the

Menturia Lodge , for the support which they had given him in his election as Secretary for the Masonio Institution for Boys . With respect to the Charities , Staffordshire had always stood out prominently in the amount of contribution- * , and ha trusted would ever continue to support them . The three principal Masonio Charities wero all deserving support . As to the Boys' School , bo observed

that there had been a cloud banging over it for somo time , bnt that cloud had been removed , and he appealed to them to support tha Boys' School . He also aaked , on behalf of himself , that be should have their confidence . There waa now a new Board of Management , which consisted of Provincial as well as Loodou members , and ha had no donbt whatever that thoy would bring abont an improved state of things in relation to the Schools . Under the present

management , while the School was being conducted efficiently , the working expenses had been reduced to the extent of about £ L 0 a head per annum . Bro . Greatbach proposed the Visiting Brethren , on whose behalf Bros . Bonsor , R . Tooth , Charles Adam . * , aud W . H . Ilowaon responded . Daring the evening vocal muaio waa contributed by several of the brethren , and tho proceedings woro of an enjoyable character .
