Railton , of Burnham , the S . W . was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year as successor to Bro . Strawbridge , of Taunton . Bro . J . Burnett P . M . ( Highbridge ) was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . W . Webber ( Bridgwater ) Tyler . o o o
DUKE OF CONNAUGHT LODGE , No . 246 . ON Tuesday evening , at the Installation meeting of this Lodge , held at the Town Hall , Buxton , Bro . Victor Cavendish , M . P ., was advanced to the degree of Mark Master . After the ceremony at the Town Hall there was a banquet at the Old Hall Hotel . o o o
ST . OSWALD LODGE , No . 387 . THE Annual Installation was held on Thursday , 4 th inst ., at Crowle , when a large number of members assembled at the Installation of Bro . Asblin . Visiting Brethren were also in good force .
After the closing of the Lodge the Brethren adjourned to the banquet-room , where Mr . Jackson , of the Darby and Joan Hotel , had provided an excellent spread . After the banquet the usual toasts were honoured , and song and sentiment interspersed the toasts .
An imposter in Court . —At the Petty Sessions , held in the Court House at Haleswoith , oh Thursday , before F . M . Remnant , Esq . ( the chairman ) , Colonel Taylor , and H . R . Edwards , Esq ., Charles ^ Elliston , late of Halesworth , tramp , was charged with obtaining by false pretences the sum of Is 6 d from James Miller .
Miller gave evidence that he was relieving Brother of the Freemasons Lodge at Halesworth . Accused came to his shop and said that he was a Freemason wanting relief , and that he came from Cumberland . After asking him various questions he gave him Is . Mrs . Miller said that Elliston came to her house on the morning of 13 th September , and said that Supt . Andrews had sent him to ask for Is 6 d more , and that it would be all right . She told him to write it down , which he did , and she then gave him Is 6 d . Supt .
George Andrews deposed that he gave no authority to obtain Is 6 d or any other sum . He was satisfied defendant was not a Freemason . Elliston , who pleaded guilty , was committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions . —* ' Suffolk Times . "

Cassell and Co . issued the first part of a new serial work entitled " The Story of the Sea . " The first part of " Oassell ' s Universal Portrait Gallery " made its appearance on the 25 th inst . It contains twenty-four portraits oi celebrities , with autographs and concise biographical sketches .

M . 2398 , & c , has been awarded a bronze medal for" the " Lincoln Stamp Albums , " published by him at 2 Holies Street , Oxford Street , W ., and exhibited at the Paris Exhibition of Books and Printing , held at the Palais de l'lndusfcrie . o o o
The Committee of the Grand Lodge of Scotland has recommended that Sir Charles Dalrymple , of Newhailes , Bart ., M . P ., be re-elected as Grand Master Mason of Scotland , and Sir Charles has signified that he will accept the position .
O O 0 The Masonic Mutual Benefit Society of Indiana , after paying 5000 dols . at death for a premium of about 45 dols ., has lowered the amount of its assurance to 2000 dols ., and the old members who have been paying
for 25 years have to pay a heavy assessment , or be expelled . The mutuality is not apparent , says the " Insurance Chronicle . "
The Welsh language has no adequate words for " Freemasons " or " Freemasonry , " says the " Western Mail . " The only ones in use are mere bald translations of the English terms .
Since the Grand Lodge of Freemasons has organized its library , some literary work has been occasionally done . In consequence of the publication of the life of Thomas and Paul Sanby , Mr . H . Sadler , the librarian , gave its author copies of several letters written by his ancestor , and received in return a portrait of Thos . Sanby , which is placed in the library .
