M ., and that tho Lodge increased so rapidly thafc , in Juno 1803 , or fifteen months after its revival , the number of members had reached forty . Bros . Long and Kymo , of unknoivn rank in tho Regiment , Avero W . M . ' s in 1803 and

1804 respectively . From 1805 to 1811 , tho Regiment AVHS engaged on Foreign Service , and tho Lodge consequently did not meet . In 1806 , the gallant 20 th was present , and highly spoken of in tho Commander-in-Chief's despatches for its conduct at the bafctlo of Maida . In July 1808 , it

embarked for Portugal , and shared in the glories of Vimicro , under Sir Arthur Wellesley . In 1809 , it served under Sir John Moore , and suffered greatly in tho disastrous retreat to Cornnna , as it formed the rear-guard of the army . Grand Lodge . Tester even waa monthly meeting of the R . W . Grand Lodge , before whom I laid your Memorial , with tho Lient .-Colonel ' s signature , and they havo been pleased to order tho Warrant to bo revived without

that year . Bro . Licufc .-Gencral Sir Charles Covillo , the Commander-in-Chief , assisting tho Grand Master . In 1826 Bros . Quarter-Master-Sergfc . John Dorringfcon , and Lieut . Henry Clinton Avcro successively Masters of the Lodge , and the latter held the sumo office in 1827 . At the

beginning of this year a medal Avas presented to Lieut , and Adjt . Hollinsworth for his eminent services in connection with the Lodge , and this and tho following years arc like-Avise memorable for the reception into Freemasonry of four distinguished members of the Lodgo , namely , Captains Charles South , Charles C . Taylor , and Charles J . Dcshon ,

and Assist . Surgeon Jas . W . Moffatt . At this timo the funds of the Lodgo had increased to such an extent thafc the Avidows and orphans of deceased brethren were entirely supported by them , and " magnificent grants to the Masonic Orphan Asylum iu Dublin were frequently made . "

In 1 S 28 Avhen Bros . John Dorringlou ( 2 nd time ) , and Lieut . T . Burke wore successively Masters , a silver cup was presented to tho Lodgo by a member who had received all his degrees , but had been subsequently removed ou duty to Tabrcez in Persia . In 1829 the Lodge , mustering

afc the time sixty members , removed to Colabah , where it continued its labours Avith Captain J . Dcshon as W . M ., this brother being re-elected tho following year . In 1831 . Pro . Lieut . Burke Avas again Master , tho regiment having changed its quarters to Belgaum . During this , the ono

instance Avhich involves any discredit to the Lodgo occurred , a member being expelled for defrauding a brother . In tho years 1832-3 , Captain South held tho Mastership ; in 1834-5 , Captain Cyril Taylor ; in 1 S 36-7 , Assist . Surgeon Moffatt ; nnd in 1 S 3 S , Captain South for tho third timo . In

1837 ifc returned to England , and as evidence of the success Avhich had attended the Lodge during tho interval between its embarkation t ' ov St . Helena and its return , AVC append tho following account of the members , who , to tho number of 150 , irrespective of the four AVIIO resuscitated the Lodge , became such durin g its Indian career : —

During the time tho regiment Avas stationed in England the Lodge only met twice , OAving to a combination of difficulties . Tho year 1838 , however , Avas marked by two

events of interest , tho presentation of a Gold Past Master ' s JcAvel to Assfc . Surgeon Moffatt on his retirement from the regiment , and the issue of a separate Avarranfc for granting tho R . A . degree , which had hitherto been conferred under tho old warrant . The following arc the names of the

Companions to Avhom'ifc Avas granted , namely , Liout .-Col . C . C . Taylor ; Captains C . South and W . H . Campbell ; Lieutenants P . Hcnnessy , T . Burke , T . M . Creagh , and H . HollinsAVorth ; Asst . Sur . J . W . Moffatt , and Q . M . Serg . John Dorringfcon .

In 1840 tho regiment arrived in Ireland . In 1841 it arrived in Bermuda . Then from 1839 till the latter end of 18-14 no meetings Avere hold . Ifc then reassembled under its Master Captain South , who filled the chair in 1845-6 , was succoded in 1847-8 by Bandmaster F . Oliver ,

AVIIO Avas re-elected in 1849 . In 1845 orders Avero given for the purchase of a Masonic Library for tho use of the Lodcfo . In October of tho same year it held its meeting at Hamilton , Bermuda , and Avas on terms of the most fraternal intercourse with Atlantic Phoenix Lodge , then

No . 271 , noAv No . 224 , on the English roll . In the month following a splendid " Keystone" for the Mark degree Avas presented to the Lodge by tho brethren of tho Royal Sappers and Miners , Bvo . Ross being the artist . On St . John tho Evangelist ' s day , 27 th December , there Avas a

grand meeting , in Avhich the Atlantic Phconix and the Sussex Lodges joined tho Minden . The brethren marched to church to hear Divine Service , and there was a grand banquet held afterwards , at Avhich Bro . Captain South W . M . presided , and everything passed off most successfully .

In 1846 Bro . Captain South Avas presented in open Lodge Avith a magnificent P . M . ' s jewel , surmounted by a R . A . jewel in miniature . In 1 . 847 , the Regiment sailed for Halifax , where it remained only a short time , being removed to Kingston , Canada West . At tho mooting on the 28 th July

1848 , it Avas resolved to have a medal struck , for tho purpose of commemorating the centenary of the Warrant , and tlie old Warrant itself Avns to bo suitably framed . On tho 27 th December of the same year , after having" met in the
