fortunate m possessing such an accomplished member , who was able to do anything that might be required in Masonry ; ho ( Bro . Bnscall ) felt very proud to havo Bro . AA'hito for his S . Langton Lodge , Mb . 1673 . —Tho installation meeting of this young and prosperous Lodge , to which wc had only time and space to refer last week , Avas held on tho 17 th instant , at tho Masonic Club , Queen Victoria-street . Indeed , there is an intimate association between the Langton and the Club , and wo may be pardoned if wo defer our account of tho meeting for a few moments while wo noto

some of tho points connected with this association . Our readers are aware that the Masonic Club was opened by Lord Skelmersdale in July 1870 . It had long been felt , by many , that such an Institution was most desirable , and , indeed , there was a very strong feeling of surprise expressed in most quarters that so " clubbable" a body of men as the Freemasons should bo almost tho only society of any moment

which could nofc boast its club . Tho idea of establishing one was received with great favour . A site was found , a suitable building erected , and , in duo courso , opened for the accommodation of members , of whom by tho day on which Lord Skelmorsdalo presided at tho inangnral banquet there wero already several hundreds . Among the arrangements of this Club , which have given most

satisfaction , was ono for holding Lodges , and in this important particular the Club is most favourably circumstanced . Moreover , there is an admirable cuisine , ruled by a skilful chef , so thafc when tho Masonio labours of tho day aro ended it- is possible to enjoy a good dinner . All this has been achieved by a company , and to its directors mnst bo ascribed tho honours of having sneceeded so

AVCII . But it is to Bro . Joseph Langton , the managing director , —AVO may almost say tho genius of the directorate , —that the thanks of the Masonic community aro due in an especial manner for having a Club so well conducted and so admirably appointed , and , therefore , when ifc was proposed in tho course of last year to establish a now Lodgo at the dab quarters , AVO aro not surprised that it should havo boon

named after him . AVe do not as a rnlo admire the custom of naming Lodges after individual Masons , unless they aro very exalted in station , or very distinguished by their ability ; but in this instance , in the caso of a Lodge established for tho convenience of tho members of the club , it Avas in harmony with all tho circumstances that it should be named after the managing director , whose

endeavours in tho interests of tho Fraternity had been so assiduous , and we rejoice to add , successful . AV'ith tho expression of a hope that theso labours may long continue , that they may bo as successful henceforward as heretofore , and that our worthy brother may reap the reward of successful labour , and long enjoy the respect and esteem of all his brethren , we pass on to record tho events of his

installation . Tho Lodge met , as wo havo said , on the 1 / th instant . The chair was occupied by Bro . If . D . Stead AV . M ., who was sup . ported by Bro . Joseoh Langton S . AV . and AV . M . elect ., Bro . F . Dobbing J . AV ., and Bros . J . A . Beid S . D ., A . Eosenthall J . D ., AV . L . Eosenthall Chap ., J . K . Stead P . M . Treas ., and E . E . Barnes Tyler , tocrether with a strong muster of members and visitors . The minutes

of tho previous meeting having been confirmed , Bro . John Morroll P . M . No . Ill , and Joseph Morroll P . M . No . Ill , were : . both balloted for as joining members and elected . The Eev . AV . Barnard Banyard and H . Hill Banyard were balloted for , and the ballot being clear , Bro . Stead initiated them , in a very impressive manner , into tho mysteries of the first degree . Bros . Fabcr and Hack worth having been found

Avorthy , were then passed . After tho election of Bro . E , E . Barnes as Tyler , tho ceremony of installing Bro . Langton as AV . M . AA'as proceeded with , there being a numerous board of installed Masters present to witness it . After having received tho salutations and congratulations of his brethren , Bro . Langton proceeded to appoint and invest as his officers for the ensuing year the following brethren ,

namely , Bros . F . Dobbing S . AV ., J . A . Ecid J . AV ., A . Eosenthall S . D ., J . D . Langton J . D ., A . C Barnett I . G ., AV . F . Taunton Sec , Eev . W . Eosenthall Chaplain , J . K . Stead P . M . Treas ., T . A . RumpfYand J . B . Crossley Stewards , and J . Morroll D . C , with E . E . Barnes as Tyler . A motion for increasing the initiation fee from ten to twenty-fivo guineas , and tho joining fee from live to twenty guineas was then

discussed at some length , and in the end a compromise was effected , tho former being increased to fifteen guineas , and the latter to ten guineas . After having voted ten guineas for the purchase of a Past Master's jewel to bo presented to the retiring Master , Bro . II . D . Stead , and a farther snm of ton guineas to be placed on Bro . Dobbing ' s list as Steward at tho approaching Festival of the Royal Masonic

Institution for Girls , the brethren adjourned to banquet , aud on tho removal of tho cloth , the customary round of toasts was proposed and duly honoured . In proposing that of the Pro Grand Master , Bro . Langton referred to tho circular which had been read in Lodgo that day as evidence of the deep interest his lordship took in Freemasonry . In connection with the toast of Lord Skelmersdale , and the other Grand

Officers Present and Past , the Master mentioned incidentally that Lord Skelmersdale had been present at their Lodge , and had expressed his satisfaction with tho manner in which the work was done . Bro . Stead , I . P . M ., proposed tho health of Bro . Langton , and congratulated the Lodgo on having in him so excellent a Master , and one who would exert himself to do his duty to promote

tho success of tho Lodge . Bro . Langton , iu reply , expressed a hope that ho might bo able to fulfil the expectations raised by his predecessor ' s remarks , and declared that at all events ho shonld endeavour to do so . Ho concluded by proposing the health of the I . P . M ., which was duly acknowledged . Tho health of the Initiates was responded to by each in turn , and each promised to do

his best to make himself a worthy Mason . Bro . tho Eov . P . M . Holden replied to tho toast of the Visitors , and Bro . F . Dobbing S . AV . for that of tho Officers . The musical arrangements were far above tho average , and gave the greatest satisfaction , the artists including Miss Mary Davies and Messrs . E . Collins , Sidney Tower , Forington , and James Matthews ; among the songs thoy gave Avere "Tho Anchor ' s

AA eighcd , by Mr . Tower ; " AA hen the Heart is Young , " Miss Mary Davies ; " Nancy Lee , " Mr . Forington ; and " Good Ni ght , Dear Love , " Bro . Edward Collins . Tho Visitors included Bros , tho Rev . P . M . Holden , Thomas Greener 111 , AValter Beard 101 , H . Massey 019 , AV . AV . Morgan 211 , John G . Horsey 18 G , Fountain Mcen 1185 , AV . Pawlcy , AV .
