a joining member and a candidate , and an accepted candidate was duly initiated . Bro . T . B . Whytehead then delivered an address on tho Study of Freemasonry , more epecially with regard to tho ancient landmarks , in which ho showed that no object of study offered so wide a scope for investigation , or embraced so many of the arts and sciences , as Freemasonry . Ifc was this that rendered ifc specially

cosmopolitan in its nature ; for thero was no brother of intelligence who could not find somo branch of Masonic science to fib his taste and suit his proclivities . Ho urged upon tho members tho advantage of becoming reading Masons . Ho had never met a stndious Mason yet who did not agreo that tho more ho knew of the science tho more he admired and loved its study ; and thoso brethren who were careless

of tho Order , and neglected its study , wero those who wore entirely ignorant of its natnro and objects . A hearty voto of thanks was accorded for tho paper , and a desire expressed to havo ifc printed for circulation amongst tho members . Tho Lodgo Committee announced that they had forwarded to the nowly-apoointed Dean of

M . for Berks and Bucks , a congratulatory address , with a fraternal welcomo to York , and a reply to the Dean was also read , in which he acknowledged the graceful act in mosfc courteons terms , and expressed a hope that ho would be able to afford his aid to the Craft iu his new and high position . Bro . Hunter P . M . then proposed that the usual P . M . ' s jewel be presented to the W . M . on his retiring from tho chair , for tho zeal and ability he had displayed during his year of office .
