Covont Garden Lodgo of Instruction , No . 1614 . —At a recent meeting of the members of this Lodge of Instruction it was proposed by Bro . Brindley Preceptor , seconded by Bro . Greenway Depnty Preceptor , and carried unanimously , that a testimonial be presented to Bro . George Reynolds I . P . M . No . 1614 , as a mark of their esteem for his untiring exertions as their Secretary and

Treasurer , for a period of upwards of seven years , and who , by his zeal and ability , has raised this Lodge of Instruction from very small beginnings to one of the largest and most important in London . For the purpose of carrying this resolution into effect , a Committee has been formed , with a view to making this testimonial something

worthy of Bro . George Reynolds' acceptance . The presentation will be made at the annual supper , to be held on Thursday , the 1 st May . Brethren who may be desirous to assist are informed their subscriptions wil bo thankfully received by any member of the Committee , or by Bro . F . M . Noakes , Hon . If tho records of this old Lodge exist , they would throw some light on tho working of the Craft , and perchance tell us HomothiiiL' of tho men who flourished on tho Alp during the reign of Qneen Anno . But it is to be feared that they have gone the way o ? the old w-i . ing . i of many other Lodges . In a schedule of the jewels , furniture and books belonging to the Marquess of Granby

Lodgo in 177 . 5 , mention is made of a largo oak box , containing papers and many others thin-.-s relating to Masonry . Four years ago , when Mr . Logan made an inventory of the goods of that Lodge , he was unable to identify a single article , save one littlo book , Hutchinson's " Spirit of Masonry , " whose dog-eared , dilapidated condition had apparently paved it from tho common fate . Box , jewels , seals ,

copper-plates , prints of tho Dedication , and a view of Solomon's Temple , and other movables , representing the goods and chatties of the ancient and honourable fraternity of the Free and Accepted , all bad disappeared . Even the pair of fuatain drawers , probably worn by Sir Cuthbert Sharp himself , had been spirited away , and not a leg remained of the mahogany chairs on which erstwhile sat the

Master and the Senior and Junior Wardens . Quart , pint , and gill measures , thirty-seven drinking glasses , with the emblems of Masonry on them , had been swept away aa ruthlessly as the ueanbox had been torn from its pedestal . We shall he glad if tho publicity thus given to the missing property should be the means of leading to its recovery . —Newcastle Journal .

rilHE annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter JL of Sussex was held in tho Music Room , Royal Pavilion , Brighton , on the 16 th inst ., the chief feature of tho business being the installation of Comp . Lieutenant-General C . W . Randolph as Grand Superintendent . The

Provincial Grand Chapter was opened by the Installing Officer Comp . Colonel Shadwell H . Gierke Scribe E ., acting Grand Superintendent , assisted by Comps . Rev . H . M . Davey Prov . G . H . P . Z . 38 , and Joseph Farncombe

Prov . G . J . P . Z . 311 . The minutes of the last annual meeting having been read and confirmed , tbo roll of Chapters was called , each being represented . The Installing Officer having examined tho patent of the Grand

Superintendent Designate , expressed the regret that owing to the death of the late M . E . Comps . Sir Walter Burrell and Gerard Ford , ho was present that afternoon to instal , for the third time , a Grand Superintendent . The choice

of the M . E . Grand Z . His Royal Highness the Prraco of Wales had fallen upon tho M . E . Comp . Lieutenant-General C . W . Randolph , and he ( the Installing Officer ) believed the selection was one which would bo conducive

to tho best interests of the Province . The Grand Superintendent having been duly installed and invested , addressed tho Companions . He thanked them for their cordial support , and was grateful to His Royal Highness

for placing him in tho chair . When ho reflected that ho was following such Companions as Sir Walter Bnrrell , John Henderson Scott , and Gerard Ford he felt that ho had an uphill task before him . Ho was deeply sensible of

tho responsibility of the high station , and wished to assure the Companions of the Province that he would do hia utmost to promote tho welfare of the Chapters in Sussex .
