DURING the past few yeava Masonry has made rapid progress iu the town and district , and on Saturday , the 12 th inst ., tho consecration of this Lodge took place in the Masonio Hall , King Street , Wigan . consecration was most ably performed by Bro . Goodacre , and the oration was admirably delivered by Bro . Spencer . A large number of brethren from the district attended to witness the ceremony . After the ceremony of consecration Bro . W . E . M . Tomlinson , M . P ., was installed aa firsfc Master of the Wigau Lodge , and appointed his Officers , as follow : —Bros . Walter Simpson S . Campbell Organist , Anthony Swalwell Tyler . Subsequently the invited guests assembled at tho Wigan Conservative Club , when an excellent banquet was served . During its progress the Wigan Old Borough Reed Band played several

selections of music . The usual toasts were honoured , those of the Worshipfnl Master and the Mayor of Wigan being most heartily received . The proceedings were also further enlivened by the singof tho Cambrian Quartette party from Liverpool . The petitioners have boon waiting since September last to have the Lodge consecrated , which , though not the Century Lodge , was the hundredth Lodge consecrated in the Province .

UNION WATERLOO LODGE , No . 13 . ON Tuesday , the 15 th inst ., the members entertained their friends at a conversazione in the Freemasons' Hall , Mount Pleasant , Woolwich . There were nearly 200 present , and excellent arrangements having been made for their delectation , the evening was spent very pleasantly . The proceedings opened at eight with a concert , a quartette consisting of Mr . Jenner , Bros . Walker , Roberts , and

Bidgood playing the overture from "La Chevalier Breton . " Songs followed , capitally sung , by Misses Logan , Skinner , Bros . Skinner , Deans , Anson , McQueen , and the ohoir of the Lodge , under the direction of Mr . B . Hancock , who also played the accompaniments . The choir acquitted themselves so well thafc their piece , " The

Miners' Chorus , " was re-demanded . Mr . Jenner s cornet solo , ' For over and for ever , " was one of the features of the concert , and elicited a hearty encore , for which Mr . Jenner responded with " The Better Land . " Bro . Walker played a romance on the violoncello in fine style , and Bro . Bidgood contributed a solo on the violin . Bro .

Hayes recited " The Lifeboat . ' After the concert there was a dance , Bros . Deans and Reynolds acting efficiently as M . C . ' s , and the quartette already referred to supplying the music . During the dancing a smoking concert was held in the lower hall . The W . M ., Bro . H . Grice , and fche members of the Union Waterloo Lodge generally , may be congratulated on a vory successful soiree .

EMULATION LODGE , No . 299 . ON Wednesday evening , the 16 th insb ., the brethren gave a ball , or what they euphuistically termed a " Soiree Dansante , " at the Victoria Assembly Rooms , Dartford . STAFFORDSHIRE KNOT LODGE , No . 726 . THE installation of the W . M . for the ensuing year took place at the Swan Hotel , Stafford , on Wednesday , the 16 th inst . satisfaction with the way in whioh the business of the Lodge had been transacted , and of the admirable manner in which tho dnties of Installing Master had been performed by Bro . Mousley . In responding to the toast of tho Visitors , Dr . Gordon so far complimented tho Lodge as to say that he had not seen better working for

30 years ; London could not excel ifc . Dr . Willmore and Bros . Evana and Ryle also responded . Among the other toasts fche health of fche W . M . was very cordially honoured . Ifc should bo stated that during tho course of the anniversary proceedings Bro . W . D . Batkin waa presented with a Past Master ' s jewel , [ and was highly complimented on his many services to the Lodge and tbe Craffc generally .

WORTHING LODGE OF FRIENDSHIP , No . 851 . THE annual installation meeting was held at fche Steyne Hotel , Worthing , on the 15 th inst . The Lodge was opened by fche

W . M . Bro . E . Cooksey , who was supported by his Officers . There was a large muster of visitors present . The chief buainess of the meeting was fche installation of Bro . W . H . Sawle as W . M . for fche ensuing year , the ceremony boing ably performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . E . Cooksey . The charges were given by Bros . L . W .

M . for the last two years , with a Pasfc Master's jewel , in appreciation of the admirable manner in whioh he had carried out his duties . Tho Lodge having been formally closed , fche brethren sat down to an excellent banquet . The newly-elected W . M . Brothor

W . H . Sawle presided . The usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were duly honoured , Bro . C . Cook P . M . P . P . G . Superintendent of Works responding on behalf of the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Pasfc , Bro . E . Cooksey I . P . M ., in proposing the W . M ., spoke in high terms of the excellent manner in which Bro . W . H , Sawle had carried ont the dnties of the various offices which had

been entrusted fco him , and anticipated a successful year to the Lodge under his guidance . Bro . W . H . Sawle , who was cordially received ou rising to respond , expressed his sense of the high honour conferred upon him , and said he would do his utmost to follow in the steps of Bro . Cooksey , of whom they were all proud . Bro . 0 . Cook , in proposing the Installing Master , also spoke in the highest terms of

the indefatigable and truly Masonic manner in whioh Bro . Cooksey had advanced the interests and the working of the Lodge . Brother Cooksey suitably acknowledged the toasfc , and said he would continue his best efforts on behalf of the Lodge . Bro . Piper , in a very humorous bnfc telling speech , proposed the Post Masters , to which Bro . Paine responded . Bro . W . Gill acknowledged the Visitorsgiven from the ohair . Bro . Lyne proposed the Wardens and Officers

of the Lodge , to whioh Bros . A . B . Corfcia and the Rev . P . Crick replied . The latter submitted the Masonio Charities , whioh Bro . E . Cooksey acknowledged . W . M . Bro . E . Cooksey , who was supported by his Officers . There was a large muster of visitors present . The chief buainess of the meeting was fche installation of Bro . W . H . Sawle as W . M . for fche ensuing year , the ceremony boing ably performed by the retiring W . M ., Bro . E . Cooksey . The charges were given by Bros . L . W .

Payntor , C . Cook , and W . Paine . The following Officers were appointed , and thoso present were invested with the insignia of their respective offices , viz .: —Bros . E . Cooksey I . P . C . W . Jemmett was appointed Charities' Steward . The W . M ., on behalf of the Lodge , presented Bro . E . Cooksey , who had occupied the post of W . M . for the last two years , with a Pasfc Master's jewel , in appreciation of the admirable manner in whioh he had carried out his duties . Tho Lodge having been formally closed , fche brethren sat down to an excellent banquet . The newly-elected W . M . Brothor

W . H . Sawle presided . The usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were duly honoured , Bro . C . Cook P . M . P . P . G . Superintendent of Works responding on behalf of the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Pasfc , Bro . E . Cooksey I . P . M ., in proposing the W . M ., spoke in high terms of the excellent manner in which Bro . W . H , Sawle had carried ont the dnties of the various offices which had

been entrusted fco him , and anticipated a successful year to the Lodge under his guidance . Bro . W . H . Sawle , who was cordially received ou rising to respond , expressed his sense of the high honour conferred upon him , and said he would do his utmost to follow in the steps of Bro . Cooksey , of whom they were all proud . Bro . 0 . Cook , in proposing the Installing Master , also spoke in the highest terms of

the indefatigable and truly Masonic manner in whioh Bro . Cooksey had advanced the interests and the working of the Lodge . Brother Cooksey suitably acknowledged the toasfc , and said he would continue his best efforts on behalf of the Lodge . Bro . Piper , in a very humorous bnfc telling speech , proposed the Post Masters , to which Bro . Paine responded . Bro . W . Gill acknowledged the Visitorsgiven from the ohair . Bro . Lyne proposed the Wardens and Officers

of the Lodge , to whioh Bros . A . B . Corfcia and the Rev . P . Crick replied . The latter submitted the Masonio Charities , whioh Bro . E . Cooksey acknowledged . During the evening a pleasing programme of vocal musio was admirably sustained by Miss Minnie Freeman , Miss Edith Welling , Bros . W . N . Roe P . P . G . O ., G . Cole P . P . G . O ., C W . Jemmett P . M ., Chas . Paine P . M ., and Mr . Argyle Galloway ; the duties of accompanist being admirably carried oufc by Bro . W . N . Roe .
