opportunity of advocating the cause of Bro . J . M . McLeod P . M . 113 as a candidate for Secretary to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , in the room of Bro . Binckes , the present Secretary , who retires on 30 fch Juno next . The Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro . Henry Smith , in

kindly and sympathetic terms , proposed tho confirmation of tho resolution passed at tho Charity Committee Meeting afc Wakefield , on Saturday , 16 th inst ., that tho balance in excess of 200 guineas raised by the West Yorkshire Lodges for tho Binckes Indemnity Fund bo allotted as

follows : — £ 10 towards a Printing Press for fche Boys ' School , £ 10 towards a lathe for tho Carpenter ' s Shop , £ 5 towards tho Games Fund , and tho rest to defray the expenses incurred in postage , printing , & c , whilst collooting the money . This was seconded by Bro . W . H .

Britton , and carried unanimously . Invitations wore announced for the meetings of Provincial Grand Lodgo from No . 448 , Halifax , for tho October meeting , and from Lodge 290 , Huddersfield , for April 1891 . Provincial Grand

Lodgo was then closed iu duo form and with solemn prayer , afc 4 * 15 p . m . Dinner was served in the Masonic Hall , Surrey Street Sheffield , at 4 * 45 p . m ., when 130 brethren sat down , the Provincial Grand Master occupying tho chair .

ON the 21 st instant a Provincial Grand Lodgo was held under the banner of the Fletcher Lodge , No . 1031 , at the Masonic Hall . The Fletcher Lodge was opened in the three degrees by Bro . W . Tidmarsh W . M ., after which the Provincial Grand Master ( Lord Lefo-h ) ,

Bro . J . T . Collins ( Deputy Provincial Grand Master ) , and the Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge were received . Too report of the Warwickshire Masonic Benevolent and Pupils' Aid Fund was presented and approved ; after which

the Provincial Grand Chaplain ( the Rev . W . H . Richards ) delivered an address . Several grants were made , including one of £ 5 5 s to the Discharged Prisoners' Aid Society ; and at the closing of the Lodge the brethren dined together .

On Friday , the llth inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Harrogate , Bro . G . Thompson S . W . was installed as Worshi pful Master of the Harrogate and Claro Lodge for the ensuing year . Bro . Thomas Lawrence I . P . M . acted as Installing Master , and Bro . T . A . Marsh P . M . as Director of Ceremonies .

THE THEATRES , & c .

Lyric . —It is not oftou that it falls to oar lot to enjoy a visit to the theatre so much as we did on the occasion of our recent attendant-- ) nt thin house . Hero everything has been done io make an audience comfortable ; the electriu light helps to keep the bnildiog ( xx )] , while the attendants are most civil . Bat what is more to the point , the really charming and tuneful comedy opera , entitled " The

Bed Hussar , " by Messrs . H . P . Stephens and Edward Solomon , has been worked into such a success that it bids fair to remain ia the bill for some very long time to come . The reason of thia success is not difficult to find . Mr . Stephens has written a story that is at once bright , interesting , and amusing , while Mr . Solomon has pat this to suoh melodious and catchy musio that ib cannot fail

to draw all London . And this is not all . Whether the author is responsible for all the fnn that is occasioned by Mi * . Arthur Williams as Corporal Bandy we cannot say , but it certainly must be recorded the part is brimming over with fun and merriment . Whop we say that Bandy is even more comical than was Lurcher in " Dorothy " our readers will be able to judge of the amusement that is caused by

Mr . Arthur Williams . The other artistes are in all respects admirable . Miss Marie Tempest is just suited to tha part of Kitty Carroll , and sings and acts in her best style . Mr . Bed Davis has ] also a part in whioh he can do himself justice . His admirable voice is heard to perfection as Ealph Bodney , while his acting goes a long way towards making the part a success .

Mr . Alec Marsh is also well suited as Sir Harry Leighton , while Mr . George Mudia is most amusing as Sir Middlesex Mashem . Miss Florence Dysart scores an emphatic success in the part of Barbara Bellasys , and good service is also rendered by Mr , John Le Hay as Private Smith , Miss Maud Holland as Daisy , and Miss Adelaide

Newton as Mrs . Magpie . We must not forget to mention the graceful and pretty dance given by Miss Birdie Irving in the second act . In conclusion , we may say that M . Ivan Caryll conducts a moat capable orchestra , thus adding the last , if not the least item towards bringing about the success that has been achieved by " The Bed Hussar . "

Adelphi . —The revival of J . B . Buokstone ' s drama , " The Green Bushes , " was welcomed by a full audience last Saturday . It is interesting to note that after many long years of travel in all parts of the world the play should at last return to its home , and be acted by artistes who have won fame in modern dramas . The situations of Buokstone's great drama are in moat respects different bo the liking

of present playgoers , and it will bo worth while to notice how they are accepted . It would , indeed , be strange to seo the hero of a present day melodrama killed in the second act , aa is the case in the present piece , but onr fathers greatly appreciated this situation , and it remains to be seen in what way the present generation will regard it . No pains have been spared to mako the revival a success , and

the company Messrs . Gatti have chosen do all they can for tho piece . Miss Mary Borke , although not so successful in tho character of Miami as wo shonld have liked , fully made up for any shortcomings by acting splendidly in the last net , when she appears as Madarao St . Aubort . Her earnestness and pathos ia admirable , and no doubt she will improve on her earlier scenes . Mr . Frank Cooper plays the

part of Connor O'Kennedy well , while George has a good roprosentative in Mr . W . L . Abingdon . Mr . J . D . Beveridge is naturally a first rate Wild Murtogb , bnt the success of the evening was achieved by Messrs . J . L . Shine and Lionel Bignold , with Miss Kate James , in the parts of Muster Grinnidge , Jack Gong , and Nelly O'Neil respectively .

Miss Clara Jecks was vivacious as Tigertail , while Miss Ada Ferrar did well as Geraldine . Elaborate scenery has been painted by Bruce Smith , and the production dees credit to Mr . William Sydney . Tho audience on Saturday was appreciative , if not enthusiastic , so that we may hope that " The Green Bushes " will enjoy a successful run .

Tho large concert room at the Plymouth Masonio Hall waa filled on the 18 th inst ., when a most successful smoking concert , iu continuation of the series , was given nnder the presidency of Bro . J . Kintpu Bond . It was admittedly tbe best concert of the series . This fact justifies the adoption of the idea , originated by tho chairman , and put into effect for the first time last night , of commencing the

concerts sufficiently early to admit of their bom ? closed at 10 * 30 , to be followed by a supper . From the commencement to tho finish the proceedings went on spiritedly , and were thoroughly enjoyed . The following gentlemen , who at the close were heartily thanked , kiudly o-avo their services : —Bros . H . J . Barter , B . Blight , W , Greenlaw ,

The evening's entertainment closed with three hearty cheers for the chairman .
