6 . REPORT OF THE BOARD OF GENERAL PURPOSES . To the United Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of England . The board of General purposes beg to report that : — 1 st . —The Lodge No . — having laid before the Board a formal com

plaint against a Brother , Immediate Past Master , for retaining in his possession the Minute and other Books belonging to the Lodge , and refusing' to hand them over to the Worshipful Master , the Board proceeded to deal with the complaint , and caused the said Brother and also the Worshipful Master and Secretary of the Lodge in question , to appear before them .

2 nd . —The matter having been fully gone into , and the parties heard , the Board unanimously resolved , and ordered as follows : — 1 st . —That the Lodge Books , improperly retained by the Brother in question after his vacation of the Chair of the Lodge , be handed to the Worshi pfnl Master of the Lodgo forthwith .

< 2 nd . —That the condnct of the said Brother , in thus improperl y retaining the Books of the Lodge , is , in the opinion of the Board , a Masonic offence proved to their satisfaction , and that he be , theretore suspended from all his Masonic functions until the further order or the Board .

Hugh 11 . Edwards , camo to an end by his death , tho Lodgo of Bene , volence bo empowered , to the extent of that sum , to repay auy expenses incurred for his benefit during hia life or in relation to his death .

2 . By Brother Tudor Trevor P . M . No . 914 , Bombay , now of No . 41 , Bath , and late of No . 1511 , Hornsea . That in consideration of the very exceptional circumstances of his application for pecuniary assistance , and that he has been much embrassed by the unmasonic litigation which ensued in defiance of

tho Principles of the Craft , and especially of No . 6 of Antient Charges and Regulations , consequent on the part he took in the exclusion from his Lodgo , No . 15 U , of an onendhv ? Brother ( which exclusion was approved by tho Provincial Grand Master ) , this Grand Lodge is pleased as a Special Case to direct the grant of £ 150 from tho Fund

of General 1 ' iirposcs , to lirother Tudor Trevor , P . M . & c , in aid of his costs in defending the action " Brother Voigt versus Brothers Carr , Laking , and Trevor , " tried at Leeds in August last , and in respect of which costs Brother Trevor affirms that he has already paid £ 169 4 s lid , and that ho has been greatly impoverished thereby .

The last meeting for real business , as far as we recollect , was held at Topsham , 10 th October 1877 , since when no P . G . Officers have been

appointed . Wo arc glad to know officially that the M . E . the First Grand Principal His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has been pleased to appoint the M . E . Companion Visconut Ebrington to be Grand Superintendent of Royal Arch Masonry in and over the Province of Devon , to whom in future all communications relating to Royal Arch Masonry are to be addressed , excepting of course annual

returns to Grand Chapter , applications for certificates , and other matters specially directed by the general regulations to be made to the Grand Scribe E ., and which must be made as usual . We congratulate the Province on this appointment , which will be a popular one and conduce to the prosperity oi" this important degree in Freemasonry . —iWestern Daily Mercury .

rnHE annual Installation Meeting of the above Chapter was held on J- Tuesday , the 15 th , but owing to various causes , somo of the Officers elect wero unable to be present . After the election of a canditato for exaltation afc the next meeting , the ceremony of installation was performed by M . E . Comp . J . N . Uillman , the retiring First Principal . Comps . E . E . Street and T . Francis were respectively installed in the chuirs of Z . and H ., and Comp . II . M . Green P . Z . was

placed in the chair of J . pro tem , in the absence of Comp . J . Lintott . Comps . W . Dart and J . A . Elverston were then invested with the collar of thoir offices as E . and P . Soj . Comp . J . J . Field N . elect was absent thiough illness ; Comp . Hillinau was then invested as Treasurer , and the First Principal , on behalf of the members of the Chapter , presented him with a P . Z . ' s jewel ; in doing so , he referred

to the unremitting zeal aud ability displayed by Comp . Hiilman P . P . G . P . Soj . Hampshire and I . W . in connection with Royal Arch Masonry in general , and with this Chapter in particular , he having been elected to the chair of Z . ou three occasions . The jewel bore a suitable inscription ; round the emblems was tho name and number of tho Chapter , and ou a shield on the ribbon

" Portsmouth Chapter , 487 , " in commemoration of Comp . Hiilman having filled the chair of First Principal in that Chapter . Comp . W . Blaekmore was appointed Janitor . The Chapter being closed , the Companions adjourned to a banquet at the Dolphin Hotel . In addition to the above there wero present—Comps . H . R , Tri gg , J . Wicks and J . Harrison P . Z .
