Valentine , and his installation took place on Valentine's Day . An appropriate song , composed by Bro . Darley , wns presented to him , as follows : —

Brother Masons , arise , and join in tho chorus , When you hoar what it is you will gladly obey ; A heart-stirring duty is present before ns , To welcome our Muster on Valentino ' s Day .

Un <\ voce elected to rule ns , wo render A willing consent to be under his sway ; As a proof of that feeling wo all of us tender Our " hearty good wishes " on Valentine ' s Day .

Tbe jolly old Veteran ho has succeeded Has made his path onsior every way ; To follow his footsteps is all that is needed To merit our plaudits on Valentine ' s Day .

In " brotherly love" we each of us greet him ; For his health and his happiness all of us pray ; And when in the Lodge , 'tis our duty to meet him , We'll hark back with pleasure to Valentine ' s Day .

Afc the end of the year , when his term shall expire , May each of the members be ablo to say , " There is not one amongst us could ever desire A better than ruled r . s on Valentine ' s Day . "

Southampton Lodge, No. 394.

SOUTHAMPTON LODGE , No . 394 .

ON Thursday , the 17 th inst ., Bro . T . P . Payne was installed W . M . of this Lodge , at the Masonic Hall , Albion-place , Southampton .

Bro . Payne , who has rendered most valuable service to Masonry during his lengthened connection with the Order , has previously presided over two other Lodges in Southampton , viz ., the Royal Gloucester and tho Peace and Harmony ; and at the unanimous request of tho brethren he has now taken the chair of the Southampton Lodge . The ceremony of installation was performed by the Deputy

Provincial Grand Master ( V . W . Bro . Hickman ) , who himself , twenty years ago , was installed for tho first timo as Master of the same Lodge . There was a large assembly of brethren , and some fourteen Past Masters took part in the installation ceremony , which was very impressively conducted by tho Depnty Provincial Grand Master . City of London Lodge , No . 901 . —The first meeting of the members of this Lodge , nnder the presidency of tho newly elected W . Master , Bro . Charles Beaumont , took place on Monday evening , at tho Guildhall Tavern , when the attendance included Bros . Alfred Ginger I . P . M ., G . C . Gundy S . W ., J . Hughes J . W ., Henry Darcy P . Lodge having been opened in accordance with the usual formalities , the ballot was prepared for Bro . William Charles Plater , of the Panmure Lodge , No . 720 , as a joining member , proposed by Bro . Ernest C . T . Hand , seconded by Bro . F . Lawrence . The

voting was unanimously in hisfavour . The ballot was then opened for Mr . Peter John Walker , of 104 Seven Sisters ' -road , Holloway , nominated by Bro . E . C . T . Hand , seconded by Bro . R . Gillard ; and for Mr . Alfred Henry Bisley , of 40 South Island-place , Clapham-road ; and for Mr . William Henry Easey , of Brunswick-street , Poplar , proposed by Bro . E . Harris , and seconded by the late Bro . J . Turner .

All threo were nnanimously accepted , and having been found worthy , were duly initiated by the W . Master , who , on this the first occasion since his installation , performed the ceremony in such a manner as not only to give the utmost satisfaction to the brethren , but to show promise of more than ordinary skill and aptitude in the future . Bros . A . J . Pritchard , George M . Gross , W . H . Taylor , Robert Torry ,

and Geo . Brittan , having answered the usual questions satisfactorily , were entrusted , and subsequently were passed to the second degree by the W . Master , who here also acquitted himself in a most creditable manner . To add to a rather heavy agenda paper , already sufficient to test the capabilities of a young Master on his d ( . but , two aspirants for the sublime degree put in an appearance , in the

persons of Bros . F . J . Ford and F . Churchill , the impressive cere - monial being rendered with considerable effect and precision by the W . Master , with but little assistance being needed from the I . P . M . Afc the conclusion of a more than usually arduous sitting , followed by the transaction of somo formal business , Lodge was closed in

form , and the brethren partook of a light supper , under the presidency of the W . Master , when tho customary Loyal and Craft toasts were duly honoured . Tho proceedings of the evening were enlivened with some excellent singing , and a very agreeable rdunion was enjoyed .

THE Installation Meeting of this young , but prosperous Lodge , was held on Saturday last , at Anderton's Hotel , Fleet-street . Bro . J . T . Briggs W . M . presided , and was well supported by his Officers , the members , and a goodly array of visitors . Lodge having been opened with tho accustomed formalities , and the minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , Bro . F . C . Austin was entrusted and retired , and Lodge having been advanced to third

degree , was raised to tho sublime degree of M . M ., the ceremony being ably and impresively performed by Bro . Briggs and his Officers . Bro . Henry Stiles S . W . and W . M . elect , was then presented in form for the purpose of receiving the benefits of installation afc the hands of Bro * Briggs . The preliminary formalities having been observed , all below the rank of I . M . withdrew . A Board of Installed Masters was

formed , Bvo . Briggs occupying the chair of W . M ., with Bros J . J . Michael S . W ., and James Terry See . R . M . B . I . as D . C . Bro . Brigga performed his part most ably , and subsequently , on the re-admission of the brethren , delivered the several addresses in a manner which reflected on him the greatest credit . Bro . H . Stiles appointed and invested the following as his Officers for the year , namely , Bros .

H . Higgins S . W ., Lewis Solomon J . W ., J . J . Michael P . M . Treasurer , Frederick Saintsbnry Secretary , Leon Jacobs S . D ., G . H . Gorringo J . D ., C . B . Pntland I . G ., B . Kanffman D . C , W . R . Yates A . D . C , Frank Fletcher W . S ., A . Hubbard A . W . S ., Daly Tyler . Bro . Michael proposed , and Bro . Higgins seconded , that a vote of thanks be given to Bro . Briggs for his services as Installing Officer ; and Bro . Stiles

in submitting the motion , took the opportunity of presenting to Bro . Briggs the Past Master ' s jewel , whioh had been unanimously voted b y the Lodge , in recognition of his services in the chair . Bro . Briggs very gracefully acknowledged the vote of thanks for what he had done thafc day , and expressed himself aa being very strongly impressed with the kindness of the brethren for the jewel thoy had voted him

with complete unanimity . He trusted he should be long amongat them , if only to evince his sense of gratitude by wearing the jewel . Lodge was then closed , and the brethren sab down to an excellent dinner , in every way worthy of tho reputation of the Bros . Clemow . On the removal of the cloth , the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given and heartily acknowledged . With thafc of the Grand Officers ,

Present and Past , was associated the name of Bro . Buss Assistant Grand Secretary , the W . M . rendering due honour to Bros . T . Cubifct P . G . P ., W . Clarke A . G . P ., and G . Beale Grand Steward . Bro . Buss , with his wonted heartiness , expressed his thanks for the compliment paid to the Grand Officers , whose services to Freemasonry were universally recognised , and to himself , who had derived

great pleasure from attending the Lodge . Bro . Briggs I . P . M . was charged with the duty of proposing the health of tho VVorshipful Master , and , in fulfilling ifc , he expressed his belief that Bro . Stiles would be found a worthy occupant of the chair of K . S . He had diligently and ably fulfilled the duties of the inferior offices , and there was no doubt he would follow in the footsteps of another

of the same family , who had already presided over tho f irtnnes of the Lodge . Bro . Stiles acknowledged the compliment so kindly p ; ud him , both in respect of the eulogistic terms in which it was proposed , and as to the kindly manner in which it had been received . He should do his utmost to carry ont the duties of his office to their satisfaction , and expressed a hope that , when the term of his Mastership came to

an end , the Lodge would be found to be in as prosperous a condition as it was at present . He concluded by proposing tho toast of I . P . M ( Installing Master ) and Past , Masters , to which Bro . Briggs responded most heartily . For the Masonio Charities , Bro . Jas . Terry was called npon to reply , and ho did so , it is needless to say , in his most effec tive manner , laying especial stress on a point which we havo iwuiti

and again noted , that if the members of our Fraternity would only contribute the small sum of five shillings per annum all round to each of our Institutions , there would be no need whatever for especial appeals , and the Institutions themselves would be , iu all probability , enabled to extend the sphere of their usefulness . He also , as a matter which goes without saying , referred in hopeful terms to the

approaching Festival of the Benevolent Institution . In reply to the Visitors' toast , Bros . Blasby , Side , Hudson , Mnrlis , Buss , Beale , Irvine , Hemmings , and Hickman responded . Buss , with his wonted heartiness , expressed his thanks for the compliment paid to the Grand Officers , whose services to Freemasonry were universally recognised , and to himself , who had derived

great pleasure from attending the Lodge . Bro . Briggs I . P . M . was charged with the duty of proposing the health of tho VVorshipful Master , and , in fulfilling ifc , he expressed his belief that Bro . Stiles would be found a worthy occupant of the chair of K . S . He had diligently and ably fulfilled the duties of the inferior offices , and there was no doubt he would follow in the footsteps of another

of the same family , who had already presided over tho f irtnnes of the Lodge . Bro . Stiles acknowledged the compliment so kindly p ; ud him , both in respect of the eulogistic terms in which it was proposed , and as to the kindly manner in which it had been received . He should do his utmost to carry ont the duties of his office to their satisfaction , and expressed a hope that , when the term of his Mastership came to

an end , the Lodge would be found to be in as prosperous a condition as it was at present . He concluded by proposing tho toast of I . P . M ( Installing Master ) and Past , Masters , to which Bro . Briggs responded most heartily . For the Masonio Charities , Bro . Jas . Terry was called npon to reply , and ho did so , it is needless to say , in his most effec tive manner , laying especial stress on a point which we havo iwuiti

and again noted , that if the members of our Fraternity would only contribute the small sum of five shillings per annum all round to each of our Institutions , there would be no need whatever for especial appeals , and the Institutions themselves would be , iu all probability , enabled to extend the sphere of their usefulness . He also , as a matter which goes without saying , referred in hopeful terms to the

approaching Festival of the Benevolent Institution . In reply to the Visitors' toast , Bros . Blasby , Side , Hudson , Mnrlis , Buss , Beale , Irvine , Hemmings , and Hickman responded .
