SOUTHAMPTON LODGE , No . 394 . AT the last meeting , Bro . H . C . Ashdown W . M . presiding , two very interesting presentations were made by members . The first , given by Bro . P . Dunsford P . M ., ia a handsome casket intended for use as a oharifcy box , made from a fine blcok of bog oak , given by Bro . H . Lasbmore , and fonnd some years ago below the bed of South . ampton Water during the first of the dredging operations of tha

Harbour Board upon the Netley shoal . The second gift , made by Bro . G . J . Tillirjg P . M ., consisted of a parchment addreas , presented to the late Bro . J . K . Sfcebbing some thirty years ago by the brethren of tho Southampton Lodges , and bearing the autographs of

many well-known Masons who litvejuow gone to their rest . Thisaddress was found among some waste papers at Mr . Gilbert's book store , and was given by that gentleman to Bro . Tilling for presentation to the Lodge .

LODGE OF HOPE , No . 433 . THE installation meeting was held at Brightlingsea , on the 23 rd nit . Bro . Joseph Bowdell w » 3 instated , and he appointed and invested his Officers .

SEGONTIUM LODGE , No . 606 . THE annual festival was held at Carnarvon . Bro . J . Williams , the retiring W . M ., efficiently installed Bro . W . C . Whiskin S . W . It was decided to present Bro . J . Williams with a Past Master ' s jewol in recognition of his services to the Lodge . The members and visiting brethren subsequently enjoyed a banqnet at the Royal Hotel .

ST . JOHN'S LODGE , No . 761 . ON Thursday , tbe annual installation festival was beld in the Victoria Hall , Dursley . Tho Worshipful Master elect was Bro . H . Blandford P . M . P . P . G . P ., who sncc jaded Bro . W . Phelps P . M . P . P . G . J . W . The installation ceremony was performed vory impressively by Bro . Sumner P . M . of the Royal Gloucestershire , in tho regrettad absence of the Deputy Pror icial Grand Master Bro . R . V . Vnsar-Smith .

DORIC LODGE , No . 933 . THIS Lodge met on the 14 th at Anderton ' s Hotel , Fleet-street . Therd wero several items of business , including a petition to Grand Lodge on behalf of a former member . The receipt of informafc ' on of the death of a P . M . of the Lodge ( Bro . Grey ) , ti whose relatives the Lodge dirocted an expression of condolence to be sont , and

the reading of a communication from Bro . Da Casseres , of the East London Masonic Club , ei the result of which the Doric Lodge of Instruction was formally transferre 3 to the Plough Tavern , Mile End R : ad . An excellent supper and musical entertainment followed .

POUR CARDINAL VIRTUES LODGE , No . 979 . THE installation of Bro . James Syor Warren was celebrated on the 24 tb nit ., at the Lodge Room , Royal Hotel , Crewe . Brother Warren snccetla Bro . Chrrles Tickers , who has jnat closed a successful year of office , and some time ago was awarded Provincial honour ? . The Installing Master was Bro . Jamea Salmon , who performed tho ritual with much effectiveness . There was a fair attendance of

brethren and visitors . A handsome Past Master ' s jewel wm presented to Brother Vickers by the W . M . on behplf of the Lclge for the eminent services he had rendered during his year of office .

A collection having been made on behalf of the Charities , the Lodge was closed . The brethren aft jrwards dined together , the host of the Royal , Bro . Charles Walsh , pntt ' ng forth his best efforts in the preparation of the menu .

LODGE OF ST . PETER , No . 1024 . THE Lodge held its anniversary meeting at the Masonio Hal ) , Maldon , on the 25 th nit ., when Bro . Charles R . Gowers was installed into tbe chair in a most able way by bis own brother , Bro . Edward Gowors P . M . P . P . G . Org . The Officers for the year wero appointed and invested .

AT the meeting on the 21 k ' o inst ., nt Plymouth , Bro . C . B . Gale was elected AV . M . Bros . Jas . Hoyten and W . Browning wore respectively elect 1 Treasr * er and Representative at tho Committoe of Petitions .

UPTON LODGE , No . 1227 . 'TIHE regular meeting Was held at the Threo Nuns Hotol , Aldgat " , L on Thursday , lGth inst ., under the presidency of Bro . Charles Schmidt Worshipful Master , who was supported by A . J . Millington S . W ., W . G . Poster J . W ., C . Giescke P . M . Treas ., C . J . Free P . M . Sec , J . Brandel S . D ., E . M . Jefferya J . D ., G . E . Schnlz I . G ., W . A . Bray Steward , T . Bowler Tyler ; while among the Past Masters , in addition to those already mentioned , were Bro ? . John Strond , B .

S . Pickering , E . Hill , J . C . Hayward , aud S . Toye . The visitors ineluded Bros . E . Chatterfcon P . M . 1185 , H . J . Catton 1816 , W . Brett 1305 , W . Ferris 901 , C . W . Fink 1625 . The Lodge having been opened and the minutes confirmed , the ballot was taken for three candidates for initiation , and proving in their

favour two of them were admitted , the third gentleman being away from London and tendering regret at h * s absence . Tho initiates were Mr . William Prior and Mr . W . J . Carroll , and thoy were regularly initiated by the Worshipful Master , who , although a foreigner , has made himself fully capable in the ritual of the Order , and is certainly deserving of the highest oredit for the ability he displayed on this

. He and the other members of his Lodge have the satisfaction of looking forward to further work in the near future , four gentlemen being proposed for initiation , so that next meeting will be a record one in the Lodge—with five candidates for initiation before the members .

The application of the widow of an old member for assistance was favourably considered , and her petition to the Board of Benevolence fully endorsed by the Lodgo , other business of a like oharaoter being fully considered . The Master had a pleasing duty to perform in the presentation to

their esteemed Seoretary of a jewel of offioe , as some small reoogni . tion on the part of the members of the good services Bro . Free had rendered to the Lodge . In giving it he felt he expressed the wish of tho whole of the members when he said he hoped Bro . Free would long live to lend the Lodge his valuable assistance . Tho jewel bore the following inscription : —

The Worshipfnl Master also made some further remarks at the meeting as to the presentation to tbe outgoing Master at the installa . tion , when a Past Master ' s jewel for Bro . Hill and a diamond ring for Mrs . Hill wero presented from the Lodge , in recognition of Bro . Hill's services in the chair during the past year , and his general interest in the welfare of the Lodge .

The business of the day being oonolnded , the Lodge was dosed and the brethren afterwards dined together , the customary toast list being gone through . Bro . Hill I . P . M ., in proposing the health of the Worshipful Master , was Bure Bro . Schmidt deBerved appreciation at their hands . Ha trusted the Lodge would have a successful year under his Master .

ship , and that be might be blessed with good fortune during his year of office . He would doubtless carry out the duties of his appointment in a thorough Masonio manner , and generally conduct the affairs of the Lodgo to their satisfaction . In reply , the Master assured the brethren it would be his endea . vour to so act as to earn tha approbation of the members of the

Lodge . He was pleased at the outlook , which gave evory promise of a busy future . The toast of the Initiates brought forth suitable replies from the two newly admitted brethren , while that of the Visitors was responded to by each of the guest ? .

The Treasurer and Secretary were toasted , and replied , the latter brother again thanking the members for the handsome jewel p * e . sented to him that day . The Past Masters and Officers of tho Lodgo received dne recognition and responded to the toasts proposed in their honour , after which tbe proceedings were brought to a conolnsion .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 1306 . fj" 1 HE regular meeting took place on the 8 th inst ., at the Three Nuns JL Hotel , Aldgate . Mr . G . VV . Danann aud Mr . C . Spencer were initiated . The Worshipful Master then vacated the chair in favour of Bro . Magrath P . M ., he having expressed a wish tj initiate his son . John Henry Magrath , who had been unanimously elected at the previous meeting bat , on account of a death in the family , waa

unable to be present on that ocoasion , but was now in attendance , Bro . Magrath performed the ceremony in an impressive manner , thus making bis son his younger brother . The ceremony being ended , the W . M ., Bro . Dickson , resumed the chair , and initiated tbe abovementioned gentlemen into the mysteries of the Order , performing

the work in a very satisfactory manner . After some rontine business , the LoJge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet , after which the usual toasts were honoured . Bro . Black I . P . M . proposed the health of the W . M ., and in reply

Tbe W . M . said that as in the past be had always done his best , so wonld be continue in the fntnre to do all he could for the interest and welfare of the Lodge . In proposing tbe toast of the Initiates , tbe W . M . expressed the pleasure it had given him to receive tho throe gentlemen that

ovening , and be hoped tbey wonld sfrivo to rnako gcoJ use of the lessons taught thi-m iu Freemasonry . The Initiates severally responded . The Visitors were next toasted . The toast of the Masonic Institutions was identified with the
