formalities were complied with in opening the Lodge , and the minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed . Lodge opened in the second degree , ancl Bro . Gibbs proved his qualification for raising , ancl was entrusted . Lodge was opened in the third , ancl the ceremony of raising rehearsed , Bro . Gibbs being the candidate . The ceremonv

included the traditional history . The third section of the lectnre was worked by Bro . Lardner , assisted by the brethren . Lodgo resumed to the first degree , ancl Lodge was called off and on . M . of the mother Lodge—Bro . Smart—occupied the chair , and , assisted by several of his brother Officers , rehearsed the second ceremony , as well as the ceremony of installation ; Bro . Moore , being

candidate for thafc high and honourable position , was dnly installed into the chair of K . S ., with fche usual formalities , the brethren saluting him in the various degrees . Bro . Miller 766 gave the addresses , and the brethren listened to him with much pleasure , his delivery and perfect elocution being particularly noticeable . Amongst those present were Broa . W . New Concord Lodge of Instruction , No . 813—The members met ab the Jolly Farmers' Tavern , Southgate-road , on Wednesday last . Thero were present Bros . Weeden W . M ., Marks S . W ., Ferrar J . W ., Cusworth Preceptor , Perl Secretary , Dixie S . D .,

Thomson J . D ., Ashton I . G ., and others . After preliminaries , the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Thomson candidate . Bro . Jones proved himself an efficient candidate for tbe degree of F . O ., and Lodge was opened in tho second , and the ceremony of passing rehearsed . Bro . Marks was elected W . M . for the ensuing meeting .

The Duke of Albany presided , on the 17 th instant , as Provincial Grand Master of Oxfordshire , afc the Provincial Grand Lodgo , which was held afc the Town Hall , Banbury , when there was a largo assemblage of the Freemasons of thafc Province and the Province of Warwickshire . His Royal Highness went down from London to Banbury by the 10 a . m . train , accompanied by Col . Shadwell Gierke Grand

Secretary , Sir John B . Monckton President of the Board of General Purposes , and other Officers of Grand Lodgo . He was received at Banbury by the Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge , and escorted by a guard of honour to the Town Hall , where , after the Grand Lodge hacl been opened by Bro . Reginald Bird , M A ., Deputy Provincial Graud Master , a procession was formed , and the Freemasons ,

with their Provincial Grand Master , marched to Marlborough-street , to the siti of a new Masonic Hall proposed to be erected by tho Cherwell Lodge , No . 599 . Arrived at the site of the new building , the Prince delivered a very neat little speech , and then laid the foundation stone in due Masonic form . The Mayor of Banbury then presented His Royal Highness with an address of welcome , which

was graciously accepted . The procession then returned to the Town Hall . Crowds of . spectators lined tho way , and greeted their Royal visitor with the heartiest cheers . The houses wero gaily decorated with flags and ornamental devices , and the whole town woro a very gay appearance . The proceedings of the Provincial Grand Lodge were concluded on the return to the Town Hall , ancl included grants of

ten guineas to local charities , fen guineas to the Boys' School , and , upon the motion of His Royal Highness , a grant of ten guineas to the Royal College of Music . Subsequently his Royal Highness presided at a banquet served in the Corn Exchange , after which the Prince made , as usual , a very good speech—a speech whieh must havo been most encouraging to all who nre anxious to promote tho spread of

Freemasonry in t he Province of Oxfordshire ; for , in expression * bit' " egret that it had been impossible for him to be present at the consecration of the Heiiky-on-Thairies Lodge , which had been added to the toll since ho hacl last been present with them , he assured them " that if any noa-d arose in the future of forming a new Lodge , nothing should prevent his being present to consecrate ifc in

portion .
