This was followed by some remarkably good marching , in much closer formation than is usually adopted , and in conclusion the girls formed into a series of groups representing the letters and figures " E . R . I ., igoi , ' in honour of the fact , subsequently announced , that the King had become Grand Patron of the School .

The gold medal for general proficiency , with an accompanying purse of £$ , was adjudged to Miss Doris Eagle , who distinguished herself also in German and history , and

took honours in the Senior Cambridge Local Examination Miss Mary Jowett , also with a long list of successes to her name , took the silver medal , and the good conduct prize given by the Supreme Council went to Miss Ethel Corner .

Sir John Monckton P . G . W . proposed a vote of thanks to the Countess , to which Earl Amherst replied , congratulating the teachers as well as the girls on all they had seen . He laughingly admitted a preference for the graceful exercises they had performed to the recently-discussed and

more violent one of skipping , for he would confide to them that when the right young man came in their direction it was the mate he was looking for and not the skipper ! After tea had been served to the visitors the girls gave a short concert .

ROYAL MASONIC INSTITUTION FOR BOYS .

TFIE annual Athletic Sports of the Institution will be held at the School , at Wood Green , on Saturday next , 1 st June , commencing at 3 p . m . The Boys Band of the Strand

Union Schools will be in attendance and will play from 2 . 30 p . m . Tea will be served from 4 to 6 p . m . in the Hall . Tickets of admission may be obtained" of the Secretary of the Institution , Bro . J . M . McLeod , Freemasons' Hall , Gt . Queen Street , London .

Notwithstanding that the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution at its last Festival , in February , received nearly £ 26 , 000 in subscriptions , and the Girls School at its Festival a fortnight since took more than that total , I am told , says the London Correspondent of the " Birmingham Daily Post ,

that at next month ' s celebration of the 103 rd Anniversary of the Masonic Boys School it is expected that a sum will be collected which will put even these amounts in the shade . There is more than another month in which to work up the lists , and as Bro . Beach , the " Father of the House of

Commons , " is to be in the chair , the popularity of that Brother as Provincial Grand Master of Plants , and the Isle of Wight since 1 S 69 , and as a leading and active figure in the work of Grand Lodge , will certainl y draw large sums

from his many friends and admirers . The Festival is arranged to take place this time in the London district , the venue chosen being the Crystal Palace . [ We truly hope the prediction of our usually well-informed contemporary may be fully realised . —Ed . F . C . ]

Moira Lodge , No . 92 . The election will take place at the Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge on Wednesday , 5 th June , and Bro . Gould says he shall esteem it a personal favour if Brethren will record a vote on Bro . Mitchell ' s behalf .

********** Bro . Joseph Davis W . M . presided at a meeting of the Lodge of Freedom , No . ' yj , on Monday , at the Public Hall , Gravesend , when Bro . George William Dean was passed

to the second degree . The ceremony was performed in a very perfect manner by Bro . Davis and his two Wardens , assisted by Bros . George Masters P . M . and George Rackstraw P . M ., who * acted as Deacons .

THE annual meeting of this Provincial Grand Lodge was held at Tamworth on the 20 th inst , there being a large

attendance of Brethren from all parts of the Province . The Earl of Dartmouth Prov . Grand Master Lord Lieutenant of the County , presided , supported by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master Colonel G . Walton Walker P . G . S . B . Eng .

The Provincial Grand Master congratulated the Order upon its flourishing condition in the Staffordshire Province . Bro . C . A Newnham was re-elected Prov . Grand Treas . and the Prov . Grand Master appointed and invested the Officers for the ensuing year as follow :

Bro . T . Taylor J . G . D . Eng . was recommended as the representative of the Province on the Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , at the next election . .

— : o : — KENT . THE Grand Superintendent Earl Amherst has decided to hold the annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Chapter ,

under the auspices of the Sympathy Chapter , No . 483 , at Gravesend , on Friday , 12 th July next . The Grand Chapter will be held at the Town Hall , and the subsequent banquet at the Clarendon Hotel . Further particulars may be obtained from Comp . Orlton . Cooper P . Z ., at 9 Woodville , Gravesend .

WEST YORKSHIRE .

THE annual meeting of this Provincial Grand Chapter was held on the 15 th inst ., under the auspices of the Perseverance' Chapter , No . 275 , at the Masonic Hall , South Parade , Huddersfielci .

There was a large attendance , only seven Chapters failing to send representatives . In the absence of the Provincial Grand Superintendent Comp . the Right Hon . W . L . Jackson , M . P ., Comp . R . Wilson PI . presided , and he was supported by Comp . H . Smith P . P . G . H . as H ., and Comp . W . Harrop Prov . G . J .

The Acting Superintendent alluded to the loss sustained by the Provincial Grand Superintendent in the death of Mrs . Jackson , and called upon the Companions to express their sympathy towards him in his affliction by rising in their places . He remarked that that was the eleventh visit of the

Provincial Grand Chapter to Huddersheld , the last two occasions being in November 1892 , when they celebrated the Centenary of the Perseverance Chapter ; and in 1898 , when

a similar celebration took place with respect to Prosperity Chapter , No . 290 . The district of which Huddersheld formed a part had been in the past the scene of active work by the Fraternity , and of that evidence of great value had been
