DISTRICT GRAND LODGE OF AUCKLAND . Tho first Quarterly Communication of tho District G . Lodgo of Auckland , English Constitution , was held in tho Lodge-room , Masonic Hotel , on tho 26 th March . Bro . G . S . Graham , tho Right

Worshipfnl District Grand Master , presided , aud fcho whole ot tho Officers ot the District Grand Lodge , except Bro . E . T . Wildman , Deputy Grand Master , were present , and nearly every Lodgo nnder tho Constitution

was represented , thoso of Auckland and vicinity having especially large representation . There wero many visitors , including Bro . G . P . Pierce R . W . P . G . M . of the Irish Constitution . The principal business transacted was the adoption of tho by-laws and standing orders for the conduct of tho business of tho District Grand Lodgo , which wero

read seriatim , as prepared by tho committee , and adopted with some slight amendments . Bro . M . S . Leers was appointed President of tho Board of General Purposes . We may add that the Grand Lodgo Officers wero decorated with the now and very handsome regalia which has been imported .

The first Quarterly Communication of the Provincial Grand Lodgo of Scotland for tho ' North Island of New Zealand was held at the Masouic Hotel , Princes-street , on March 31 st . Mr . Hood had decorated tho entrances and hall with evergreens , & c , in honour of the occasion , aud the effect was very prottj . Bro . Whitaker R . W . P . G . M . presided , and amongst the visitors was Bro . G . P . Pierce R . W . P . G . M .

of the Irish Constitution . There was a largo attendance of brethren , the various Lodges holding under tho Scottish Coustitution of Freemasonry being well represented , and there were numcrons representatives from tho other Lodges . Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from Bro . G . S . Graham R . W . D . G . M . English

Constitution , Bro . T . L . Murray P . G . Treasurer , and Bro . A . Brodie P . G . S . W . A committee consisting of the five principal Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge was appointed to draft by-laws and to prepare and adopt a design for the seal of the P . G . Lodge . A considerable amount of routine business was transacted , after which tho proceedings were brought to a close iu accordance with Masonic ritual .

Ancient Carthage Lodge , No . 1717 , Tunis ( E . G . )—A regular meeting of this Lodgo was held on the 21 st April 187 S , under the presidency of Bro . A . M . Broadley , Barristcr-at-Law , who is its first Worshipful Master and chief founder . Tho Ancient Carthage Lodge was dedicated ou tho 3 rd day of October , A . L . 5377 , on tho petition of nine worthy resident brethren belonging to various Lodges

under English jurisdiction . Tho original founders woro Bros . A . M . Broadley , Dr . N . Lenghi , Rev . E . B . Frankel , J . E . L . Barker , Dr . A . Perrini , M . D ., Georgo Pentecost , E . Sonillier , Henry Kaylock , and P . M . Palcologo . Although so recently formed , the Lodgo of Ancient Carthage already mnsters moro than fifty members , of which number twenty-eight have been actually initiated , passed , ancl raised by tho

able and learned Worshipfnl Master Bro . Broadley since the dedication of the Lodge six months ago . The Rules and Regulations and Bye-Laws of this Lodge appear to have been carefully framed . The fees for the three degrees are £ 5 5 s . The annual subscription ( payable in advance ) is 15 s for each resident member , and 5 s for each non-resident brother ; no member shall be entitled to bo

considered non-resident who shall not , bonajlde , have been continuously absent from tho Regency for a period of six months . Brethren visiting Tunis may be balloted for as honorary members ( without the right of voting ) for a period not exceeding three months , at the usual rate of subscription , and after the expiration of three months they can become regular members by the payment of the usual entrance

fee of 12 s 6 d . The ceremonies are worked by the Worshipful Master , Bro . Broadley , either iu Arabic or English , French or Italian , as the case may be—according to the nationality of the candidate , the Lodge being usually opened , raised , and closed in English . Amongst its members are brethren of almost every creed , and of many nationalities : Moor and Maltese , Frenchman and German , Italian , Spaniard ,

and Greek are here fouud working together in Masonic unity with the English brethren ; whilst Hebrew and Mussulman , Roman Catholic , Protestant and Greek , sink all differences of creed , and try ( let us hope ) to square ancl regulate their every action by the implements of the Craft , guided by tho shining lights of our Order , in accordance with the all-embracing attributes of Brotherly Love ,

Relief , ancl Truth . The Lodge of Ancient Carthago has its own hall , situated in the Street SIDI -ALI-A' / UZ ( which , being interpreted , means the Street of the Son of God ) . The funds of the Lodge are entirely devoted to good works , ancl , we beiiovo , it is already a Life Governor of moro than one Masonic Charity . transacted on the evening of 21 st April was of an interesting charac tor ; a Maltese gentleman , resident in Tunis , was duly initiated into our mysteries in a very impressive manner by the W . M ., tho ceremony being conducted in French . Ono candidate was afterwards balloted for and accepted , and another candidate was balloted for ,

with an adverse resnlt . Tho brethren subsequently adjourned to tho supper room of tho Lodge , where a frugal little repast awaited them . Supper being finished , tho usual toasts wero given from the chair ancl duly honoured . Tho toast of tho Visiting Brethren was coupled with tho name of Bro . Ecroyd P . M . of the Royal Brunswick , No . 296 ,

who in reply complimented the W . M . on his selection of Officers , who knew their work , and who go through ib as if they had been in Masonic harness for a number of years instead of only for six months .

Master heartily congratulated the brethren present on tho progress of tho order in the connty and Wales . He expressed a wish thafc his services might be brought into requisition during the ensuing year to consecrate a few more

Lodges , and although in the past his time had been greatly trenched upon by private and public demands , he hoped that upon all occasions when his services were required for the furtherance of the Order , he might be present , and he trusted ho would be able to visit tho various Lodges in the Province as often as possible . In con . eluding his address the R . W . Brother exhorted the brethren to still

greater zeal ancl liberality in their various spheres , as the great feature of tho Order was Charity . The Provincial and Mark Lod"ea having been closed in harmony , the brethren adjourned to banquet , the Hon . W . Egerton Prov . G . M . presiding . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed from the chair , and heartily responded

to . The pleasures of tho evening were greatly added to by the good singing of a number of the brethren . The catering of Bro . Fair , hurst , of Liverpool , which was of tho most recherchi character , gave unanimous satisfaction to the brethren . The next Prov . G . L . will be held at Llandudno in May next , under the banner of St . David ' s Lodge .

roll , each Lodge was responded to , and letters of regret for non . attendance were read from absentees . The minutes of previous Grand Lodgo having been read , the Prov . Thero was a sum of ten guineas voted from tho fund of Prov . G . Lodge towards the Mark Fund of Benevolence . Sundry business being disposed of , the R . W . P . G . M . Master heartily congratulated the brethren present on tho progress of tho order in the connty and Wales . He expressed a wish thafc his services might be brought into requisition during the ensuing year to consecrate a few more

Lodges , and although in the past his time had been greatly trenched upon by private and public demands , he hoped that upon all occasions when his services were required for the furtherance of the Order , he might be present , and he trusted ho would be able to visit tho various Lodges in the Province as often as possible . In con . eluding his address the R . W . Brother exhorted the brethren to still

greater zeal ancl liberality in their various spheres , as the great feature of tho Order was Charity . The Provincial and Mark Lod"ea having been closed in harmony , the brethren adjourned to banquet , the Hon . W . Egerton Prov . G . M . presiding . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were proposed from the chair , and heartily responded

to . The pleasures of tho evening were greatly added to by the good singing of a number of the brethren . The catering of Bro . Fair , hurst , of Liverpool , which was of tho most recherchi character , gave unanimous satisfaction to the brethren . The next Prov . G . L . will be held at Llandudno in May next , under the banner of St . David ' s Lodge .
