Wilberforce Lodge , and the newly-appointed Officers , " in eulogistic terms . Bro . Greenwood , he said , was an energetic , commercial man , and so far as his labours in the Lodgo were concerned , they knew that he did his utmost to carry to a successful end everything that he took in hand . In responding , the newly-elected W . M ., who was received with applause , said that that was a red-letter day in his Masonio life .

He was initiated in 1883 , and afc thafc time he little thought he should over occupy so distinguished a position . He thanked Bro . Maokaill for the kind manner in whioh be had proposed the toast , and said that although he was afraid that he would not be able to conduct the duties of the Lodge with the same brilliancy as his predecessors , be would endeavour to band down the warrant of the Lodge to his

successor in the same unsullied state as it had been handed to him . He would leave no stone unturned in trying to do his duty to the Lodge to the best of his ability . Bro . Redfearn I . P . M ., in responding to the toast of his health , alluded with satisfaction to the great snecess he had had during bis year of office . The Lodge had increased numerically more than in any year , excepting the first , and

the finances were in a splendid condition . The Benevolent Fnnd , be was pleased to say , had been put upon a firm basis . He thanked tbe members for the kind feelings entertained towards him during the year , and for the regularity of their attendance at the Lodge , observing that his Officers had admirably attended to their duties . Other toasts followed , and dnring the evening Bro . Newton , the Chaplain , presented to the Lodge a handsomely-framed painting of

the late Bro . Woodall , W . M . 1889 , which had been subscribed for by the members . The painting was executed by Mr . Hudson , and ia a striking likeness of the deceased brother , who was highly respected . The W . M . appropriately acknowledged the presentation , and a toast to the memory of the departed brother waa drnnk in solemn silence . During the evening some capital songs and recitations were given , Bro . Stringer P . P . G . O . presiding at the piano .

Third Class : Churchill , Foord , Manning , Saville ; Satisfied the Examiners : Angier , Brister , D'Oyly , Figgess , Fearon , Gay , Harvey , Higgison , Huggett , Kent , Lewis , Lemau , Matthews , Moorcroft , Robey , Shorrock , Williams . Nnmber of Certificates this year 23 , last year 12 .

I should not have noticed the subject had it not beeu for the palpable determination to institute a contrast between the present and the past , on every detail , prejudicially to tho latter . I have no desire to pose aa the champion of tbe late Head-Master , or the department under bis supervision . The Committee of

Investigation adopted one view , the Provisional Management Committee formed another . But facts are facts . Attention haa already beeu directed to the patent mistake in the totalled nnmber " 394 , " on page 63 , Report for 1888 , whioh should be " 294 . " A molehill of typographical error has been magnified into a mountain of arithmetical

blunder . " Denunciation " and " Mesopotamia " are both good words , have the same number of syllables , are equally applicable in commenting on my letter of 7 th inst . No further remark is needed . Tho last paragraph of the same letter is amply sufficient for my justificatication , so far as tbe remonstrance of the " I . P . M . 686 " is concerned .
