The Chapter was opened in due form , and the minutes

of the last Convocation read and confirmed . The ballot was taken for Bros . Holland 317 and 1375 , and Quail 317 , and announced favourable . The brethren here adjourned to tea , and on re-assembling Bros . Holland and Quail wore exalted to the Holy R . A . degree by tho M . E . Z ., assisted by the other two Principals aud tbe Officers . The work was well done , as it always is in this Chapter , notably that of

the P . S . Comp . Staton , who has an easy , natural tumour tbat is very taking and impressive . Thero being no further business , tha Chapter was closed in peace and harmony shortly before 9 o ' clock . At the social board , after tbe preliminary toasts , the health of Comps . Quail and Holland wore proposed and heartily drank , after whioh Comp . Holland responded for himself aud Comp . Quail , who had left ,

feeling indisposed . A special toast was proposed by Comp . J . Dawson , viz ., the health of Camp . Cunliffe P . Z . P . G . S . N ., ou his recent appointment . Comp . Dawson , in the course of his remarks , said no man had done more for the Masonio Charities and Freemasonry generally during tho limited term he had been connected with the Order than Comp . Cunliffe . His interest and zeal for

I reemasonry never seemed to flag , and ho had clearly proved thia by taking the various degrees up to tho 30 tb , consequently no brother more deserved the honour conferred upon him and he ( Comp . Dawson ) sincerely hoped Comp . Cunliffe would live to a happy old age and continue a shining light amongst Affability members for yeara to oome . Comp . Cunliffe said he felt rather confused by the kind

expressions that had fallen from Comp . Dawson , and the hearty manner in which the Companions had received tbe toast . As moat of them were aware he had been absent from their meetings , owing to certain lamentable oiroumstanoes , for a considerable time , and thought at oue period the prospects of his reappearing amongst them were rather remote ; but gradually ho had renewed hia interest

in Freemasonry , aud the welfare of both Lodge and Chapter , ani trusted nothing would interfere in future with his affection for both . Respecting the honour that had been bestowed npon him , he thought it was not so much for what he himself had done , as the reputation tho Chapter held for good working . It was an honour he considered conferred upon the Affability Chapter , through whioh he was the

fortunate recipient . It was a pleasure to work amongst its members and very fascinating . The brotherly love aud unanimity that always prevailed had attracted him from his temporary retirement , and he felt assured ho should be as interested in the welfare of the Chapter as ever . Other toasts , including tho M . E . Z ., the Present and Past Principals of the Chapter , tho Visitors , Ofhoars , & c , woro proposed aud roiponded to , a pleasant ovcuing being spent .
