CONSECRATION .
— : o : — ST . LAURENCE LODGE . THIS new Lodge , No . 2724 on the roll of Grand Lodge of England , under the name of the Saint Laurence , was consecrated on the Sth inst ., at Northfield , with all the ancient and picturesque ritual appertaining to this comparatively rare ceremony , which , indeed , many old and
experienced Masons , including Past Masters and members of Provincial Grand Lodges , have never had the opportunity of witnessing . A goodly number of distinguished Brethren assembled at the Church Schools , on the invitation of Brother Howard
Jennings Acting Sec , among them being the Consecrating Officers : —Bros . Sir Frederick Godson , M . A ., M . P ., Prov . G . M . Worcestershire , Colonel Warner Ottley D . P . G . M ., F .
Russell Pr . G . J . W . as S . W ., A . Cotton P . P . G . J . W . as J . W ., Rev . H . McKean Prov . G . Chap , as Chaplain , W . T . Page Prov . G . Sec , E . Bennett Prov . G . D . C . as D . C , W . G . Page Prov . G . Pursuivant .
At half-past two the procession of Provincial Grand Lodge arrived to solemn music , and after the usual formalities the Provincial Grand Chaplain delivered an oration on the nature and principles of Freemasonry , after which the elaborate ritual of consecration and dedication was admirably
performed by the Provincial Grand Master and his Officers . The usual hymns having been sung , with the anthems "Behold how good and joyful a thing it is" and "Dhow
amiable are thy dwellings , " the impressive ceremonies of the Corn , the Wine , and the Oil were proceeded with with full choral ritual , after which the Prov . Grand Master pronounced the Patriarchal Benediction .
The Consecration having come to an end , the Prov . G . M . proposed that the Brethren present should join in a vote of condolence to the family of the late Lord Lathom Pro Grand Master of England , who had done so much for Freemasonry . This was agreed to in the usual manner known among Masons .
The ceremony of installation was next proceeded with , Bro . G . G . Poppleton being the first Master of the Lodge , and he having appointed his Officers , the Lodge was closed in harmony and brotherly love .
A banquet followed , when the usual toasts were honoured , prominent among them being that of the I . P . M . of the St . Laurence Lodge Bro . Lister P . M . 4 82 . A selection of music was given by the Clef Quartette and several musical Brethren .
The locale of the new Lodge is in the Church Schools , and there can be little doubt that Freemasonry at Northfield will have a prosperous and harmonious future . — " Birmingham Daily Gazette . "
At a meeting of the Masters and Wardens of the Fylde Lodges , held at the Palatine Hotel , Blackpool , on the 9 th instant , it was unanimously resolved that a petition should be sent to H . R . H . The Prince of Wales , K . G ., Most Worshipful Grand Master , praying him to take into
consideration the desirability of dividing the Province of West Lancashire , and forming two Provinces instead of one . The petitioners advance the plea that the Province of West Lancashire , which numbers 121 Lodges and 10 , 000 members , is the largest in the world , and that being of such
an unusual size there is at times only a remote opportunity of being efficiently represented in Grand Lodge . It is also contended that by the formation of two Provinces the Masonic Charities would be materially strengthened . A
circular , dated 16 th December , has been forwarded to the various Lodges , and is signed by Bros . J . R . Huddlestone W . M . 1061 , and Thos . Forrester P . G . Standard Bearer Hon . Secretaries .
