NOTICES OF MEETINGS .

C E A ¥ T . — : o : — IMPERIAL GEORGE LODGE , No . 78 .

AN emergency meeting in conneotion with the above Lodge was held at the Asshoton Arms Hotel , Middleton , on Thursday , 1 st June . The Lodge having been duly opened by Bro . Thos . Smethurst W . M ., Bro . Peter Lawton P . M . was announced , and upon his entry saluted by the brethren with Provincial honours , this being bis firat appearance since the bestowal upon him of the title Provincial Grand

Janior Deacon . Upon the conclusion of Lodge business , a very pleasing feature was introduced . For the first time in the history of the Imperial George Lodge , ladies were admitted to the banquet , and also became participants in the subsequent proceedings . It goes without saying , therefore , that a most interesting and enjoyable

evening was spent . Suitable addresses were delivered by Bros . Jas . W . Abbott P . M . P . P . G . D . C and Peter Lawton P . M . P . G . J . D ., the former reverting to the reflected honour which the Lodge must naturally receive by the recognition of tho new Provincial dignitary who appeared before them that evening for the first time in his

official capacity ; and the latter thanking them for the enthusiasm of their greeting . Bro . Thop . Smethurst W . M . proposed the toast of the ladies , whioh was responded to by Bro . J . W . Lees P . M ., who , in the course of his remarks also alluded to the distinction whioh had been conferred upon the Lodge by the appointment of two of their brethren as Provincial Officers . Bro . the Rev . J . 0 . Jelly Provincial

Grand Chaplain was unavoidably absent , but he trusted that the brethren would mark their appreciation in a manner worthy of tho Lodge . The entertainment consisted of some excellent songs , recitations ' , and ventriloquial sketches by Bros . Steeple , Fitton , Barlow , and Mead , and the delightful evening was not brought to a close until 11 o ' clock , the ladies expressing a hope that they would be again invited at a very early date .

WILTON LODGE , No . 1077 . THE regular meeting of the above Lodge was held at the Red Lion Hotel , Blaokley , on Monday , 5 th inst ., Bro . Samuel Mills W . M ., tho following brethren being also present : —Bros . John Horsfield S . W ., Geo . T . Lenard J . W ., J . T . Sawyer Treasurer , A . Wii . field Secretary , Hy . M . Wilson S . D ., Dr . J . R . ( FIIEEJIASON ' S CHRONICLE ) . Tho minutes of the foi mer

meeting having been read and confirmed , and I ho Ledge opened in the third degree , Bro . Lenard was called upon by tho W . M . to deliver to the brethren the ancient historical lecturp , which he accordingly did in that correct and masterly style which distinguishes nil his work . The nsual festive board followed , at which Loyal and Masonio toasts were drunk . That of the Visitors was proposed by Brother

Lloyd who , in a very eloquent speech , gave the guests a hearty welcome , saying that this toast was always given and accepted in the Wilton Lodge without any humbug . At the time he was speaking there were four visitors , Brother Benjamin Brierley having entered the room a few minutes previously . Brother Lloyd reverted in cordial terms to the especial characteristic of each

visitor , saying of Bro . Lawton that he belonged to a noted Lodge , between which and the Wilton there was a close affinity . With regard to Bro . Hilton , he said that he had especial pleasure in welcoming him , because there were circumstances of peculiarity surrounding his connection with them . In the first instance , he ( Bro . Llovd ) had proposed him in the Truth Lodge ( where he was

formerly a member ) , he had the honour of seeing him installed , and also of seeing him instal his successor . Ho had seen him invested with the purple at Ashton-nnder-Lyne a short time ago , he being the youngest Officer npon whom Provincial honours bad been bestowed . As an instance of the indefatigability of Bro . Hilton , tho speaker said that in conneotion with two concerts he had issued a

quarter of a million of tiokets , doing more in this matter than some men would have performed in 25 years . He said of Bro . Roberts that the members were always glad to see him , for he was willing to assist them in various ways , making at the same time an oblique reference to that brother ' s conneotion with the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE , aud the reports which he had given of Lodge proceedings . The next

whom he would mention would be Bro . Ben Brierley , who , aa a distinguished Lancashire author , needed no recommendation from him . On the previous day he ( Bro . Lloyd ) had been on tbe pier at Blackpool with his old friend —( a dissenting shake of the head from Bro . Brierley)—well , at any rate , he had been reading one of his books , a splendid sketch of life in this

distriot , and he could assure his listeners that the company was Tery enjoyable . The visitors briefly responded , Bro . Hilton reverting to the excellent way in which Bro . Lenard had given the historical leotnre , and Bro . Ben Brierley said that he did not feel like a visitor when appearing amongst the members of the Wilton Lodge

it was like going into the bosom of his family . Bro . Holford proposed the toast of the Officers of the Lodge , to which Bros . Newton and Lenard responded . The latter said some brethren had expressed themselves to the effect that he had no right to give the traditional history , which remarks had caused him to consult several Past Mastera and Provinoial Officers , who had all justified him in his

action . If happily he should attain to the chair of King Solomon , he would only be following in the footsteps of his old dad , who was a Past Master of the Strong Man Lodge , No . 45 .
