West Smithfield Lodge of Instruction , No . 1623 . — The annual festival of this Lodge was held at the New Market Hotel , King Street , Snow Hill , E . G ., on the 28 th ult . The Lodgo waa formally opened , and minutes confirmed . Lodge was olosed , and the brethren repaired to one of the banqueting rooms of this establishment . Bro . G . S . Elliott W . M . 1623 presided ; Bros . H . J .
Lardner D . O . 1623 J . W ., and G . H . Stephens W . S . J . W . Tha banquet was bountifully provided , and heartily enjoyed . After the cloth was removed , the W . M . gave the ordinary Loyal and Craft toasts in eloquent manner , and tho brethren heartily received them . Bro . J . Stevens P . M . ( in the regretable absence of Bro . W . Pennefather P . M . the Preceptor , owing to a call to the country ) ably
proposed the health of the W . M . In doing so ho congratulated him upon his conduct in presiding over the banquet , and for his kindness in furnishing tho wines for dinner . The toast was heartily received . Bro . Stevens P . M . next proposed the West Smithfield Lodge of Instruction . Alluding to tho good work done by Instruction Lodges , he said it was a matter for regret that there should be such
differences in Avorktng as were to be found . This seriously interfered with the good which might otherwise be done . He had raised the question of the desirableness of laying down a standard working in Grand Lodge , and hoped , some day , to see this important point dealt with . He also drew attention to the Charterhouse Club of Instruction , and suggested that as the New Market Hotel was already the
home of several Masonio bodies , it would be well , now Bro . Butt had provided such excellent accommodation , to form a club for the brethren to meet in at all times , where they conld pass an evening in the various Lodges , or in social enjoyment . Bro . Lardner having responded for tbe Lodge of Instruction , as Treasurer , the W . M . gave the Visitors , calling upon Bros . P . M . ' s Stevens and Tredwell to
respond . The evening was enlivened with some capital songs by Bros . D . Moss and G . H . Stephens , In connection with this house , it may be interesting to state that Bro . T . Butt , on the 5 th inst ., inaugurated the opening of his new banqueting room , when he waa supported on the occasion by many brethren and City gentlemen . Bro . James Stevens occupied the chair , and Messrs . Meekham and
Anstey the vice-chairs . The toast list included " The Queen , Prince of Wales , and rest of tho Royal Family , " " Army , Navy , and Reserve Forces , " "The Host" ( Bro . Butt ) , "The Corporation of the City of London , " " The Churchwardens , " "Tbe Press , " & c . The entertain , ment was of the highest order of excellence , and we trust Bro . Butt will secure the success his spirited enterprise deserves .

P . lf ., of the New Concord Lodge , who Avas ably supported , while Bro . Jas . Stevens acted on this occasion ia the capacity of Preceptor . The appointments of the Lodgo Room aro most perfect , and we can ensure tot those of our readers who may be induced to pay the Club a visit an eminently Masonic reception .
New Finsbury Park Lodge , No . 1695 . —An emergency meeting of this Lodge , which is now fairly at home in its new quarters , Avas hold on Tuesday , the 20 th inst ., at the Alexandra Palace , Avhere , by a special arrangement , the production of tbe Lodge summons produced admission for those who took part in the day ' s proceedings . There AVUS a very good attendance of tbe

Tibbitts 59 , as joining members , and the result was unananimous in their favour . Messrs . F . Richmond , F . Madgin and J . W . Clayton wero balloted for . Mr . Clayton having met with an accident waa unable to bo present , bnt Mr . Madgin , who was present , Avas duly
initiated into the Order by Bro . Hollis , who conducted the ceremony very perfectly . Bros , F . W . Richmond , F . F . Antisa and XV . Earl were passed to the second degree by Bro . Davis P . M ., who was very impressive in his conduct of this ceremony . All the Officers were proficient in their duties . In pursuance with a notice of motion , Bro . Berry proposed , and Bro . Bastable seconded , that in future the
meetings of this Lodge be hold on the third Thursday in the months of October , February , April , June and August , and that the Byelaws be altered accordingly . This Avas carried unanimously . The Lodge was then closed to the third Tuesday in June , and the brethren sat down to a sumptuous and richerchi banquet and dessert , provided by Bros . Bertram and Roberts . The wines and viands wore
of first rate quality . Grace having been said , the W . M . Bro . Purkiss , Avho was prevented from being in attendance at the working , very genially presided , and proposed the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts . In giving the toast of the initiates , the W . M . remarked that Bro . Madgin had expressed to him the pleasure ho had experienced in bein ? made a Mason . He had known Bro . Madgin for many
years , and he felt he would be an ornament to the Craft ; he was respected by all Avho knew him . The W . M . then urged on Bro . Madgin the necessity of attending Lodges of Instruction , impressing upon him that , in after years shonld he aspire to obtain office , the principles of Freemasonry would there bo full y developed to him . Bro . Madgin , in tho course of a brief and
appropriate speech , said he was proud to have the hononr of being initiated in this Lodge . He had to thank Bro . Hollis for introducing him ; he hoped one day to be high in office . Bro . Davis P . M . remarked that Bro . Madgin had expressed to him the pleasure ho had experienced in bein ? made a Mason . He had known Bro . Madgin for many
years , and he felt he would be an ornament to the Craft ; he was respected by all Avho knew him . The W . M . then urged on Bro . Madgin the necessity of attending Lodges of Instruction , impressing upon him that , in after years shonld he aspire to obtain office , the principles of Freemasonry would there bo full y developed to him . Bro . Madgin , in tho course of a brief and
appropriate speech , said he was proud to have the hononr of being initiated in this Lodge . He had to thank Bro . Hollis for introducing him ; he hoped one day to be high in office . Bro . Davis P .
