The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Cousens candidate . Bro . Hayes having answered the usual questions was entrusted , and the ceremony of passing was gone through . It was decided to replace some of the furniture of the Lodge that was much the worse for wear , and the woithy Preceptor promptly promised that he would see to tho same being done without delay .

We are glad to note how well this Lodge of Instruction is attended ; the number of Past Masters who rarely miss a meeting should be an incentive to young aspirants in the Craft to attend regularly .

KNOWING the high reputation of the members of the Mother Lodge , we looked forward with considerable gratification to a visit to this new Instruction Lodge , which held its second meeting on Wednesday , at Bro . Joel Davis ' s , the Greyhound , Kensington Square . We were agreeably impressed with the comfortable accommodation provided for Masonic meetings , and the excellent gathering on that occasion .

The Lodge was opened to the third degree and resumed to the first . Bro . Johnson was examined as a candidate for passing , and that ceremony was rehearsed . Bro . Young 2765 , and John Kench 865 were elected members , while the compliment of honorary membership was conferred on Bro . J . Wynman .

A letter was read by the Secretary from Grand Lodge , indicating that the Earls Court Lodge of Instruction was duly entered on the Register . ( Are we rightly informed here ? We should like to know that a Register of Lodges of Instruction is really kept , and if so how it is that a Lodge remains on the list in Grand Lodge Calendar six or eight years after its recorded house of meeting has ceased to exist . The Belgrave , No . 749 , as a case in point . —Ed . F . C . )

It was proposed that a Benevolent Association should be formed ia con-, nectionwith the Lodge , and the proposal was unanimously agreed to , whereupon the following Officers were elected to act as the Committee . Bros . J . Worth P . M . Preceptor , J . Cox P . M . Dep . Prec , J . W . Facey P . M . Treas ., Albert J . Taylor Sec . The Treasurer fully explained the working of the Fund , whereby a weekly subscription entitled the members to the right to participate in ballots for Life Subscriberships of the three Institutions , and as a result several of the Brethren gave in their names as members .

Bro . J . Worth Preceptor informed the Brethren he would attend the Festival of the Benevolent Institution next Tuesday , and was glad to say he bad a nice little sum to hand over , an announcement that was most heartily applauded . The W . M . announced that the annual supper of the Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , No . 865 , would take place shortly , and asked the members of the Earls Court Lodge of Instruction to co-operate , so as to make the gathering a successful one .

It was proposed by Bro . Facey that the sum of £ 2 should be voted to Bro . J . Cox , for the ornamental covers to pedestals which he had provided . It was necessary that some Brother should interest himself in the work , and that Bro . Cox had done . With the assistance of his wife and daughter he had produced the splendid effect they saw that evening . The members must appreciate the large amount of valuable time and skill that had been expended

on them , and they would feel that the sum very inadequately represented the amount of care and skill Bro . Cox had devoted to their production . This was seconded by Bro . Worth and c irried unanimously , and a hearty vote of thanks extended to Bro . Cox for his great kindness in the preparation of these " truly Masonic ornaments . " Bro . P . Howard was elected W . M . for Wedngsday next .

Brethren of the district seeking Masonic knowledge can hardly do better than pay this Lodge a visit . The Preceptor Bro . Worth is capable , and we are convinced he will do everything in his power to impart a knowledge of the ritual to any Brother who places himself under his instruction . The Lodge meets every Wednesday evening , at 8 o'clock .

DUKE OF YORK LODGE , No . 2449 . THE regular meeting was held at the Albion Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , 8 th inst ., Bro . A . G . Bryoe W . M . Following the reading and confirmation of minutes , a successful ballot was taken for Mr . Robert Brownridge , Provision Merchant , Moss Side , Manchester , and he was initiated into Ancient Freemasonry by the W . M . This was succeeded by the raising of Bro . Win . Frcdk . Smith to the sublime degree , this ceremony also being performed by the W . M .

A letter was read by the Secretary from Grand Lodge , indicating that the Earls Court Lodge of Instruction was duly entered on the Register . ( Are we rightly informed here ? We should like to know that a Register of Lodges of Instruction is really kept , and if so how it is that a Lodge remains on the list in Grand Lodge Calendar six or eight years after its recorded house of meeting has ceased to exist . It was proposed that a Benevolent Association should be formed ia con-, nectionwith the Lodge , and the proposal was unanimously agreed to , whereupon the following Officers were elected to act as the Committee . Bros . J . Worth P . M . Preceptor , J . Cox P . M . Dep . Prec , J . W . Facey P . M . Treas ., Albert J . Taylor Sec . The Treasurer fully explained the working of the Fund , whereby a weekly subscription entitled the members to the right to participate in ballots for Life Subscriberships of the three Institutions , and as a result several of the Brethren gave in their names as members .

Bro . J . Worth Preceptor informed the Brethren he would attend the Festival of the Benevolent Institution next Tuesday , and was glad to say he bad a nice little sum to hand over , an announcement that was most heartily applauded . The W . M . announced that the annual supper of the Dalhousie Lodge of Instruction , No . 865 , would take place shortly , and asked the members of the Earls Court Lodge of Instruction to co-operate , so as to make the gathering a successful one .

It was proposed by Bro . Facey that the sum of £ 2 should be voted to Bro . J . Cox , for the ornamental covers to pedestals which he had provided . It was necessary that some Brother should interest himself in the work , and that Bro . Cox had done . With the assistance of his wife and daughter he had produced the splendid effect they saw that evening . The members must appreciate the large amount of valuable time and skill that had been expended

on them , and they would feel that the sum very inadequately represented the amount of care and skill Bro . Cox had devoted to their production . This was seconded by Bro . Worth and c irried unanimously , and a hearty vote of thanks extended to Bro . Cox for his great kindness in the preparation of these " truly Masonic ornaments . " Bro . P . Howard was elected W . M . for Wedngsday next .

Brethren of the district seeking Masonic knowledge can hardly do better than pay this Lodge a visit . The Preceptor Bro . Worth is capable , and we are convinced he will do everything in his power to impart a knowledge of the ritual to any Brother who places himself under his instruction . The Lodge meets every Wednesday evening , at 8 o'clock .

KENTISH CLUB OF INSTRUCTION . THE usual weekly meeting was held on Monday , at the Assembly , Kentish Town Road , when there were present : Bros . A . Cocks W . M ., S . J . Suter S . W ., E . Gatfield J . W ., E . A . Wass S . D ., W . F . Coney J . D ., W . Scott I . G ., Viney Tyler , C . F . Quicke P . M . Precentor , H . Pickett P . M . Dep . Prec , J . Dawson Sec , J . Strong , J . Baron , ' Geo . Procter , R . Dingle , Lake , and others , including Bros . T . Mills and W . Busby , both happily in good health again .

Tue ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Procter candidate . Bro . Busby answered the questions , was entrusted , and the Lodge being opened in the second degree the W . M . rehearsed that ceremony . Bro . Suter was elected W . M . for Monday next . The eighth Annual Festival of this Club will be held at the Frascati

Restaurant , Oxford Street , W ., on Friday , 2 nd March , at 7 . 30 p . m .. when the chair will be occupied by Bro . C . F . Quicke G . Supt . of Works Kent . There will be an excellent musical programme for the delectation of the Brethren and their non-Masonic friends . Tickets , 7 s Gd each , may be had from Bro . W . F . Coney , 309 Camden Road , N . W .

DUKE OF YORK LODGE , No . 2449 . THE regular meeting was held at the Albion Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , 8 th inst ., Bro . A . G . Bryoe W . M . Following the reading and confirmation of minutes , a successful ballot was taken for Mr . Robert Brownridge , Provision Merchant , Moss Side , Manchester , and he was initiated into Ancient Freemasonry by the W . M . This was succeeded by the raising of Bro . Win . Frcdk . Smith to the sublime degree , this ceremony also being performed by the W . M .
