Reports Of Meetings.

The W . M . resumed the chair and Bro . J . Myers having answered the questions leading to the third degree to the satisfaction of the W . M ., he was entrusted and retired . The Lodge was advanced , and in due course that Brother had the gratification of being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason .

The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and several communications were read by the Secretary . Amongst them was a letter from Bro . N . Goldman , expressing his inability to attend , on account of indisposition . A petition was signed by the Officers and Brethren on behalf of the widow of a late Brother . Bro . D . Moss i ' . P . G . Std . B . strongly and effectively recommended the case and

we were pleased to see the Brethren so readily answering his appeal . It is evident the members intend to keep the ball rolling and give their W . M . plenty of work during his year of Office , as several gentlemen were proposed for initiation , and a Brother as a joining member . After well earned hearty good wishes the Lodge was closed , and the Brethren retired to the magnificent banqueting

room where an excellent repast was provided , including the turtle soup for which the famous old establishment is so highly renowned . The dinner was a great credit to Bro . G . L . Meadows , the manager , and added " additional kudos to the famous Tavern . Bro . Edward Mayat looked after the comfort of the company with his usual skill and ability .

After the usual Loyal toasts had been honoured , and Bro . D . Moss P . P . G . St . B . had responded on behalf of the Grand Officers , the I . P . M . submitted the toast of the Worshipful Master , whom he complimented on me way in which he had performed his work in Lodge . It was something of a unique proceeding , and something to be proud of , for a father to initiate two of his sons during his term of Mastership . He felt sure the interesting event would make

an everlasting impression upon those principally concerned , and that in particular the initiates would remember that night After the experiences of the day there was no necessity to refer to the ability of the Worshipful Master to properly discharge his dutiesthe Brethren had had actual proof of what he was capable of , and would , he was sure , heartily honour the toast -of his health as a consequence . This was done .

The W . M . acknowledged the compliments paid him . No greater honour could have fallen upon him than to have the opportunity of initiating his sons , who bad long expressed a desire to join the Friars Lodge . He had , for a long time , hoped to be able to do this , and was particularly gratified now that he had performed the ceremony . Concerning his working ; he had to thank the Friars Lodg ;

of Instruction for the knowledge he had acquired . Three years ago he knew very little of the ritual , and now he had risen to the dignity of Master of the Lodge , and he regarded that position as one of the greatest honours ever conferred upon him . They told him he gave satisfaction—that was ample reward for all the trouble he had taken . He thanked them for the cordial way in which they had received the toast .

Bro . D . Moss proposed the toast of the initiates , whom he complimented on being admitted into the Craft under very favourable auspices . He urged them to attend Lodges of Instruction , as that was the only way in which they could learn to fully appreciate the beautiful lessons of Freemasonry ; but by all means they must not neglect their business for the purpose . They should further remember that Freemasonry was found , not in England alone , but

all over the world . He had had considerable experience as a traveller in different parts of the world , and felt he could congratulate the new members on having been initiated by one of the best Masters it was possible to have in the chair . On behalf of the Lodge he accorded the new members the most hearty of welcomes . Bro . John Crabb said he was very pleased he had been initiated in the Lodge , and hoped to rise to occupy the position his father filled at the present .

Bro . Michael Crabb was surprised at the impressive and excellent ceremonial which had had such an effect upon him as would ensure his never forgetting what he had gone through , or the obligation he had given his promise to . Bro . John Gaze tendered his especial thanks for the honour conferred upon him in being received as a member of the Friars Lodge .

Bro . Henry Durell expressed his delight with the ceremonies through which he had passed . He was very pleased indeed to have been received into the Craft , and thanked the W . M . and Brethren for havino- admitted him into their Lodge . Bro . H- Harris P . M . gave the toast of the visitors . He

considered he had a verv difficult task to perform , as he desired to tender to each of the guests the very hearty welcome the members of the Lodge -always desired to accord their visitors . He referred to each in turn and expressed the hope , on behalf of the Lodge , that all had enjoyed themselves and would desire to come again on an earlv opportunity .

Bro . Gaze responded , expressing thanks on behalf of the guests . He had been very pleased to see his brother initiated in that Lodge , because he recognised the working had been such as to make a most' beneficial impression upon him . Bro . Newman expressl y thanked the Brethren for their good wishesfor his safe return

, to his home in South Africa . His cordial reception in the Friars Lodge would make a lastine- impression upon him . He had had the pleasure of knowing Bro . Da Costa for upwards of twenty years and had spent a most delightful night in his company , and in admiring the excellent working of the various degrees of the Craft , which had really been most impressively rendered . J

Bro . Richmond complimented the W . M . on his working . He was Senior Warden in . his own Lodge and felt he could not do better than follow the excellent example set by the W . M . of the Friars Lodge when it came to his turn to occupy the chair . Bro . Andrews expressed heartfelt thanks for his reception . He had never visited an outside Lodge before , and was very agreeably surprised at the excellence of the working he had witnessed . He

thanked the W . M . for his kind invitation , and the members generally for the heartiness of their welcome . He had enjoyed a most pleasant evening . Bro . D . Moss , by desire of the W . M ., proposed the toast of the Past Masters of the Lodge , to which Bro . Marks responded , and then the Tyler gave the concluding sentiment .

The musical entertainment provided was excellent , amongst those who contributed being Mrs . Phillips , Mr . Phillips , Bro . M . DaCosta P . M ., Bro . Toombs , and others . —A most successful meeting of a popular Lodge . **********
