LORD SANDHURST'S EXPERIENCES .

A RECEPTION was held by the Lodge of Edinburgh ( Mary ' s Chapel ) , No . i , in the Hall of the Lodge , ig Hill Street , Edinburgh , on the 12 th inst , in honour of Lord Provost Steel and Lord Sandhurst , ex-Governor of Bombay ,

and Past Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry m India , who were admitted honorary members of the Lodge . There was a large attendance , about a hundred and fifty Brethren being present . ' i he chair was occupied by the W . M . Bro . W . W . Robertson , who was supported by the

Lord Provost , Lord Sandhurst ( who wore the Grand Cross of the Star of India ) , Sir Mitchell Thomson , Sir Thomas Gibson-Carmichael , Sir Andrew M'Donald , Colonel Ivison Macadam , the Rev . Dr . John Glasse , the Rev . John Kerr , Dirleton , David Reid Grand Secretary , E . A . Chisholm Grand Treasurer , & c , & c .

Before the Lodge was called from labour to refreshment , Bros . Sir Thomas Gibson-Carmichael of Castlecraig ; William Mitchell Thomson , Apollo University Lodge , Oxford ; and Professor John Dunstan , Royal ( Dick ) Veterinary College , Edinburgh , were affiliated to the Lodge .

On the motion of the W . M ., it was agreed to minute an expression of regret at the death of Sheriff Vary Campbell , a member of the Lodge . The Chairman , on entering upon the t ^ ast list , proposed the King and the Craft , reminding the Brethren that his Majesty was a member oE the Lodge of Edinburgh .

The Chairman afterwards gave the three Grand Lodges of Scotland , England , and Ireland , with their respective Grand Masters—the Hon . James Hozier , M . P ., His Royal Highness the Duke of Connaught , and the Duke of Abercorn . The toast was coupled with Lord Sandhurst , as representing the Grand Lodges of Scotland and England .

Lord Sandhurst , in responding for the toast , said he had been for five years Governor of Bombay , and during the whole of that time , excepting the first six months , he had united under him the Grand Lodges of both Scotland and England , as representing the English Grand Lodge ,

and as Grand Master of all Scottish Freemasonry in India . He understood that at one time the Grand Lodge of Scotland had some natural anxiety as to whether that arrangement would be a satisfactory one , holding" as he did under the English Constitution . He was glad to be able to tell
