endowed two ohairs , to the amount of 20 guineas . During the past four years that Lodge had sent up fco our great Institutions a total of 420 guineas , whioh all must admit was a noble result . Ho never pressed for contributions , believing that all Masonio Charity should be voluntary , and tho result had shewn the wisdom of this course

He earnestly appealed for future support , and said his position as their Charity member had always been a proud and a happy one . On the motion of Bro . Dr . Smyth , seconded by Bro . Tudor Trevor , Bro . Watson was unanimously re-elected Charity member for tho ensning vear . Bros . Trevor and Fretwell S . W . were unanimously

elected to represent the Lodge on the Local Charity Committee . The W . M . ( Bro . Chas . Middleton ) then , on behalf of the brethren of Lodge Prudence , presented to Bro . Watson a handsome Past Master's jewel of the Lodge pattern , and bearing the word " Founder" on a special bar , Bro . Watson being one of the founders .

In making the presentation , the W . M . expressed the pleasure it gavo him at being the vehicle through which the Lodge presented that mark of esteem . The year that had just closed had been a very happy one , and he hoped fchey would always be ablo to keep up the harmony and good feeling which had , since its formation ,

characterised their Lodge . Bro . Watson was aa highly esteemed in fche Province as he was in that Lodge , as was evidenced by the fact that the Prov . Grand Master Bro . Tew had raised him to the purple by making him Grand Supt . of Works . His labours , too , iu connection with tho Provincial Library ab Wakefield wero well

known and appreciated , and thafc work would remain as an enduring monument of hia Masonio research and skill long after he had passed away . The members of that Lodge could nofc respect him more highly than they did , and ho hoped Brother Watson wo : Id wear the jewel as a solid and visible sign of their appreciation ( f

him both as a man and a Mason , Bro . Watson , who was niopfc cordially received , thanked the brethren with great warmth , and said that tbo foundation of tho prosperity of tho Lodge had boon well and truly laid by the Past Masters . When ho was installed ho succeeded to no unpleasant legacy , and he was glad to know that he

handed on the work to his successor as free from doubt and difficulty as he received it . Tho interests of Lodge Prudence had ever been in his mind , and he had striven to the best of his ability to promote them . The jewel he should wear as a recognition from his brethren , as a proof that fchey recognised thafc he had striven , and not in vain ,

to promote the best interests in their Lodge . Ou the motion of the W . M ., seconded by Bro . Tudor Trevor , a resolution of condolence was passed to Bro . Fretwell , who has just lost his father . This duty was mosfc sympathetically and gracefully performed . It having been briefly bufc feelingly acknowledged , fche Lodge closed iu

was spent iu harmony , Bro . Jas . Buckley , the talented Organist , taking charge of this part of the programme with his accustomed success . At ten o ' clock the Tyler's toasfc brought to a close ono of the most ; successful and happy installation meetings yefc held in tho history of this Lodge .

A VERY pleasant timo resulted from tho meeting of this Lodge , on Monday last , when the members assembled at tho Cock Tavern , Highbury Railway Station , under tho presidency of their Worshipful Master , Bro . M . J . Jessop ( P . M . 1261 ) . Bro . Jessop was supported by Bro . Charles Hogard , Past Grand Standard Bearer , as I . P . M .: in the absence of Bro . L . Kool the S . W . 's chair waa taken

Whiteway , who was proposed by the W . M ., and seconded by Bro . C F . Hogard ; the second candidate was Mr . Joseph Polak , and ho had for his sponsors Bros . Do Leeuw ( Secretary ) and Kool ( S . W . ) Tho result waa unanimous in favour of each candidate . Bro . Eichard Warner of tbo Strand Lodge , No . 1987 , desired to become a j fining

member , and the ballot being unanimous in his favour , he took his seat as a member of the Barnato Lodge . The name of another gentleman appeared on the agenda paper as a candidate for our mysteries , but through illness he was unable fco attend on the present occasion . Tho two candidates named above

were introduced and initiated by the W . M . The Worshipful Master , addressing the brethren , stated he had now a mournful duty to perform . At their last mooting thoy had with them a respected member of tho Craft , a Past Graud Chaplain , one who was an honorary imeiubw of tho Barnato Lod ^ c . Ho rqlerrsd . fcv tho lute JJiu Weidyn ,

who had acted as the Grand Chaplain afc the consecration of thoir Lodge . The brethren would all remember Bro . Weldon ' a towering height , and would recognise the immensity of brain power which he possessed . His orations were at all times practical , and would hold in the memory of those who had had the privilege of listening to

them . Their deceased brother had been with them on several occasions since their inauguration night , and he would be long remembered by those who had on suoh occasions met him . Bro . Jessop concluded by proposing that a vote of condolence be sent to the son of fche lato Rev . Brother Weldon , expressing fcho

sympathy the Lodge felfc with the family in their bereavement . This was seconded by Brother Acworth the acting S . W ., and unanimously agreed to . In the course of the evening it was proposed that fche services of Bro . Hogard , who had devoted | himself mosfc assiduously in fche formation of fche Lodge , and who had

rendered good service as I . P . M ., and W . M . in the enforced absence of Bro . J . Da Silva , should receive some slight recognition . Brother Barnato proposed that a Past Master's jewel should be provided , and fcho presentation made at tho next meeting of tho Lodge . This waa seconded by Bro . Jesaop the W . M ., and supported by Bro . Acworth ,

who expressed his gratification thafc fcho suggestion he incidentally made at the last meeting had so soon been acted upon . The proposition was unanimously agreed to . Reference was next made to the very successful ball held by the Lodgo last year , when a sum of close upon £ 60 was raised for the Lodge

Benevolent Fund . Ifc was now decided that a second ball shonld be held , to take place at the Hotel Metropole , on or about 7 th January next . After some other matters had received attention Lodge was closed . A capital banquet was supplied by the Bros . Baker , tho service being superintended by Bro . Sams .

On the removal of the cloth the W . M . briefly introduced the Loyal toasts . These having received full honours , the health of the Earl of Carnarvon , the Eorl of Lathom , and the rest of the Grand Officers was given , and Bro . F . Binckes acknowledged tbo toasfc . Bro . Hogard next gave the health of the W . M . The way in which

the mention of Bro . Jessop ' s name had been received was an earnest of the esteem in whioh all fche members of the Lodge held him . As a worker Bro . Jessop had established for himself a reputation , and this had been confirmed by the way in which he had initiated fche candidates that night . He had so endeared himself to the Lodge

thafc no farther words were necessary to commend the toast The W . M . gracefully acknowledged the compliment paid him . and assured the brethren he should at all times strive to advance tho bost interests of the membsrs . In speaking to the toast of tho Initiates , the W . M . said accession to membership was a

desirable feature in all now Lodges . In tho Barnato they did nofc gj our , into the highways and byeways , but when eligible candidates presented themselves , and were properly vouched for , fche Lodge would give them every encouragement . This had been the case with fche two gentlemen who had been received into the Lodge thnfc evening ,

and he ( the W . M . ) had great pleasure in asking the brethren to drink a toasfc in their honour . Bros , Whiteway and Polak britfly acknowledged the honour done them . The W . M ., in giving the toasfc of the Past Masters , referred to the absence of Brother J . Da Silva . Brother Hogard in reply said he was assured the

brethren one and all trusted Brother DA Silva was securing a bountiful supply of that commodity they so much coveted . For himself , he was intensely gratified at the kindly expression of approval that had been given to his poor services . Tho other fcoasta given wero the Visitors , for which Bros . Josephs , Lloyd , Rivers ,

Sprake , Morgan , and others responded ; the Olhc srs , responded to by the Acting S . W . and tho Secretary . A special toast in honour of tho brother after whom the Lodge is named was entrusted to Bro . F . Binckes , who gracefully referred to what bad been done by fche Lodge since its formation , and to the interest Bro . Barnato had

taken in the Masonic Institutions . Bro . Barnato made a suitable response , and shortly afterwards the Tyler clised the meeting . Somo capital songs wero given , Bro . Lloyd especially da inguishiug

himself . By request , Bro . Morgan recited the " In Memoriam " lines , and Bro . Wright ' s musical infcerpo'atijns rendered these very solemn and effective . As accompanist during the evening Brother Wright ; was all thafc could be desired .

Duke of Cornwall Lodge of Instruction , No . 1839 . — The weekly meeting was held ou Tuesday last , at the Queen's Arms , Queen-street , Choapside . Preeent—Bros . F . C Dixie W . M ., Culver S . W ., Williams Treasurer , Miller Secretary , Foofc J . D ., Marcus I . G ., and several brethren , who duly signed the attendance book . Lodge was opened in duo form , and the minntes of the preceding meeting
