of tho Lodge for the manner in which he had conducted the business during his term of office . Bro . Kinipple having feelingly and suitably responded , after " hearty good wishes " the Lodge was duly closed . The brethren then retired to the Queen ' s Room , where a splendid banquet was served , in a manner that could but enhance the

pleasure of all who were participants . This important ceremony passed , the loyal toasts , the Queen and the Craffc , and the M . W . G . M . H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , were received with enthusiasm , and in a no less hearty manner tho M . W . Pro G . M . the Earl of Carnarvon , the R . W . Deputy G . M . tho Earl of Lathom , and all the

Grand Officera Present und Past . Bro . I . P . M . Kinipple then proposed fche Worshipfnl Master , mentioning that he was fche third initiate of thafc Lodge who had arrived afc the honourable position which he had now attained ; to whioh Bro . H . Sinclair replied , stating that he intended to fulfil all the duties of his high office

faithfully and jnsfcly . In reply to tbo toasfc of fche Immediate Past Master Bro . J . Kinipple referred to the present prosperity of the Lodge , and claimed tho consideration of the brethren for his endeavours to put fche Lodge in a sound financial position ; oven if he had incurred some little imputation for closeness , ifc was all for the

good of tho Lodge , and on Masonio prinoiples . Replying for the Installing Master , Bro . C . Reeve referred to brotherly love as a first condition of Masonry , and expatiated eloquently on the virtues of temperance and charity in all things . The P . M . ' s and the Initiates having been adequately proposed and acknowledged , the W . M ., in

giving the Masonio Charities , expressed his resolution to take a Stewardship afc both the approaching Festivals of the Old People and the Girls' School . On the list being sent round , the handsome amount of £ 63 was quickly subscribed , and was gratefully acknowledged by tho W . M . To the toasfc of the Visitors

Bro . H . Cooper felicitated the Lodge in warm terms on the true Masonic spirit evident among them , and was followed in the same flense by several other visitors . Amongst others responding for the Officers , Bro . H . Rogers said thafc during fche whole term of hia Secretaryship , he had a good record to report , and thafc the

prosperous condition of the Lodge continued to increase , and was never more apparent , nor its progress more certain than at the present moment . The Tyler ' s toast concluded an evening delightfully spent . During the intervals between the toasts and the replies ,

several brethren contributed to the enjoyment of the company by their vocal and instrumental performances . Among these were Bros . I . P . M . Kinipple , Duck and Gammon , whose efforts were highly appreciated and applauded . The Organist of tho Lodge effectively accompanied , and filled up the interval with solos .

EAST SURREY LODGE OF CONCORD , No . 4 G 3

A MEETING of the members of this Lodge , one of tho oldest in the Province of Surrey , was held on Wednesday , the 13 th inst ., at the Greyhound Hotel , High-street , Croydon . Ifc will be iu the recollection of many of our readers that in April last this Lodge celebrated its Jubilee , and the brethren to do honour to one of tho

staunchesfc Masons fche Province has ever produced , resolved to re-elect to the chair Bfro . Georgo Price Prov . Grand Treasurer . Brofcher Price joined Freemasonry fifty years back , in this Lodge , and four years after filled , with credit to himself and pleasure to fche members , tho Master ' s chair . Since then he has kept np his

association with the Lodge , and thongh now in his eightieth year , displays a lasting and continuous interest in its welfare . On fche occasion we are now more especially considering Bro . George Price opened his Lodge afc five o ' clock , when he was supported by Past Masters C H . Woodward ( Secretary ) , Dr . F . Nicholls , J . K .

for initiation , a gentleman well known to residents of Croydon . The result was in favour of the candidate . A similar verdict ; was < nven on . behalf of Brother Abraham Charles Crossley , of the Strand Lodge , No . 1987 , who desired to join Lodge 463 . Brother Woodward now took the chair , aud the candidate was introduced and

regularly initiated into tho first degree iu Freemasonry . Now Bro . Prico resumed his position , aud Bro . C . H . Woodward , as tho oldest Past Master after Bro . George Price , rose . In graceful aud eloquent terms Bro . Woodward described how gratified tho members wore that thoy still had with them a brother who could claim an

uninterrupted association with their Lodge for fifty years' duration . For himself , he thought this was almost , it not quite a unique event , so far as the Craft was concerned . Four years nftor his initiation Bro George Prico was elected Worshipfnl Master ; twenty years later

he ( Bro . Woodward ) followed as W . M .,- there wore at the present time 18 Past ; Masters on tho roil of the Lodge , which ho vonfcured to assort gave evidence of the interest fche old members still hold in its working . formed , while a desire had been expressed by some of tho members of the George Price Lodgo , which maybe considered somewhat of an offshoot of the East Surrey , and which Lodge meets in the same hostelry , that they should take part in providing the necessary funds to carry ont the object contemplated . The

Chapters also whioh met afc fche Greyhound expressed a wish to assist , and consequently ifc had been decided that the presentation should embody a life-like presentment of their esteemed Worshipfnl Master , whioh might for ages yefc to come hold a place whero tho members of tho several Lodges and Chapters assembled , and be handed down so

long as tho Lodge had a place for meeting in . Bro . Woodward now unveiled the portrait , whioh had been executed in the highest style , by Mr . S . L . Phillips , of East Croydon . The likeness is a " speaking " one , and has been produced from an enlarged photograph , reflecting credit upon , and adding lustre to the fame of the talented artist

to whom it had been entrusted . Bro . Georgo Price , in thanking tho brethren for their generous gift , said ifc gave him infinite pleasure in accepting it . In the course of his long career he had been mado the recipient of many honours , bnfc nothing had given him greater pleasure than the intimation that day of their good feeling towards

him . He was pleased afc tho suggestion that Bro . Woodward had made . Hero , where the Lodges and Chapters with which ho was associated met , was its proper abiding place . To tho several members who had acted npon the Committee , and especially to Bro . Woodward , his best thanks wore due , for tho uniform kindness

they had over shown towards him . The Lodge was shortly afterwards closed . A banquet followed , after which tho Loyal and Masonio toasts wore fully honoured . A very pleasant evening was spent , some capital songs being given , Bro . Williams especially distinguishing himself in this regard .

HADRIAN LODGE , No . 1970 ,

ON the 5 th inst ., the annual meeting was held in fche Free * masons' Hall , South Shields , for the installation of the W . Mand investment of Officers for the ensuing year . The W . M ., Bro . T . D . Marshall , presided , and was well supported by hia Officers aud brethren . The Provincial Grand Mastor Sir Hedworth Williamson , Barfc ., accompanied by Bro . R . Hudson Provincial Grand Secretary ,

and many of his Provincial Officers , paid his first visit to the Hadrian Lodge . Upon the Lodge being opened , the Provincial Grand Master and Officers of Provincial Grand Lodgo were received in due form by the brethren , and the Provincial Grand Master took the chair . After some preliminary business , the W . M . Bro .

T . D . Marshall , in mosfc respectful terms , welcomed the Provincial Grand Master to the Lodge , and asked his acceptance of an illuminaked and handsomely framed address . The lettering and adornment was the work of Messrs . Mawson , Swan , and Morgan , and waa very tasteful . The name and number of the Lodge , with a picture

of Hadrian , was upon the sido design . The address was road by Bro . Marshall . The Provincial Grand Master acknowledging tho welcome and tho address , congratulated the Lodge upon its steady progress , its excellent balance-sheet , and their assistance to the Masonic Charities , particularly the Durham Masonic Edncational

Fund . He assured them that he felfc great pleasure in visiting tho Lodge , and he was more pleased , if possible , because ho had received a very pleasing surprise in the valuable address they had given him . Nothing could give him more satisfaction than to find that his efforts were well received by the brethren . The installation of the W . M .

elect , Bro . J . T . Ross , then took place , Bro . Walter Roas acting as installing Master . Tho newly-installed Master invested the following Officers for tho year .- —Bros . T . D . Marshall I . P . M ., J . H . Penny S . W ., George Harland J . W ., Sinclair Gates Chaplain , T . Coulson

IN the presence of about 70 brethren , representing the leading members of Provincial Grand Lodge , tho Leeds Lodges , and visitors from neighbouring towns , the installation meeting of this Lodgo was held in tho Masouic Hall , Great Georgo Street , Leeds , on the 9 th inst . by Bro , Robt . Craig , after whicn the Officers w ere called upon to hand over their collars , beginning afc fche Junior Officer . Previous to tho opening of tho Board of Installed Masters , tho W . M . Brother Watson returned thanks fco tho brethren for their kind aud courteous

treatment of him during tho time he had rnled over the Lodge . Especially were his acknowledgments due to his Past Masters , who had been such a support to him dnring tlio past year . There had nofc been tho slightest appearance of discord , aud that being tho case ho would bo wrong it' ho laid down tho reins without thanking

all . They had supported him nobly , and ha had dono his best to deserve thoir support . Ho also warmly thanked his Officers , singling out for special commendation Uro . Trevor D . C , and Bro . T . D . Marshall , in mosfc respectful terms , welcomed the Provincial Grand Master to the Lodge , and asked his acceptance of an illuminaked and handsomely framed address . The lettering and adornment was the work of Messrs . Mawson , Swan , and Morgan , and waa very tasteful . The name and number of the Lodge , with a picture

of Hadrian , was upon the sido design . The address was road by Bro . Marshall . The Provincial Grand Master acknowledging tho welcome and tho address , congratulated the Lodge upon its steady progress , its excellent balance-sheet , and their assistance to the Masonic Charities , particularly the Durham Masonic Edncational

Fund . He assured them that he felfc great pleasure in visiting tho Lodge , and he was more pleased , if possible , because ho had received a very pleasing surprise in the valuable address they had given him . Nothing could give him more satisfaction than to find that his efforts were well received by the brethren . The installation of the W . M .

treatment of him during tho time he had rnled over the Lodge . Especially were his acknowledgments due to his Past Masters , who had been such a support to him dnring tlio past year . There had nofc been tho slightest appearance of discord , aud that being tho case ho would bo wrong it' ho laid down tho reins without thanking
