BOARD OF BENEVOLENCE .
THE Board of Benevolence held its September meeting on Wednesday , at Freemasons' Hall . Bro . James Henry Matthews President of the Board occupied the President's chair , and Bros . David Dixon Mercer Senior Vice President and Henry Garrod Junior Vice President occupied the chairs
assigned to their respective rank . Bros . W . Lake Assistant Grand Secretary , William Dodd , and George S . Recknell attended officially , and among the other Brethren present who were adorned with the purple were Bros , the Rev . J . S . Brownrigg P . G . C ., Thomas Minstrell P . G . P ., W .. Fisher G . P ., and Walter Martin P . A . G . P .
The Grand Master having approved of grants recommended at the August meeting for his sanction to the amount of £ 160 , these were confirmed , after which the new list , comprising eighteen petitions , was dealt with . To Grand Lodge was referred for adoption a recommendation of a
grant of £ 75 to one petitioner ; two cases of £ 40 each and two of £ 30 each were submitted for the Grand Master ' s adoption . £ 20 was granted in three instances , £ 15 was
voted to one case , and £ 10 to another ; while £ 5 was given in two cases , and £ 3 in one case . One petition was withdrawn , and the consideration of four other petitions stood over .
The installation meeting of the Bradstow Lodge , No . 2448 , will be held on Wednesday next , the 27 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Broadstairs , at half-past three . A banquet will afterwards be held at the Grand Hotel , at six o ' clock . We hope to report the proceedings in a subsequent issue .
Brethren of the district may be pleased to know that the Holloway Lodge of Instruction , No . 2601 , meets every Friday evening , at 8 o ' clock , at the Osborne Tavern , Stroud Green
Road . The house is within easy reach of Finsbury Park and Crouch Hill Stations , and should be very convenient for residents in the northern suburbs .
The sixth general meeting of the Glasgow Masonic Hall Company , Limited , was held on the 19 th . The Directors are satisfied with the year ' s working . It is very desirable ,
however , that more shares should be taken up by the shareholders and others , and so enable the Company to be placed in a satisfactory financial position . Only sixty-two additional shares were allotted last year .
Referring to the half yearly elections to be held next month in connection with the Girls and Boys Schools , the " Birmingham Post " says there is no Warwickshire candidate for the latter School , but the county has one for the former in
the person of Florence Beatrice Holloway , daughter of the late Edgar Hamilton Holloway , printer , Sparkbrook . Staffordshire , which has no candidate for the Boys School ,
has two girls down for the older Institution ; these , however , are also qualified through other Provinces to which their respective fathers belonged .
