It is worthy of being mentioned that the Lancashire Provincial Grand Lodge in the Mark degree was founded in 1867 . Bro . Thomas Entwisle was appointed first Provincial Grand Master in that year , with Bro . C . F . Matier as Deputy . In 1870 the late Bro . W . Romaine Callender succeeded Bro . Entwisle . Lord Lindsay , the present Earl of Crawford , was his Deputy until 1872 . Lord Skelmersdale

( the late Earl of Lathom ) then took the place of Lord Lindsay , retaining it until 1876 , when , upon the death of Bro . Callender , Lord Skelmersdale was installed Provincial Grand Master , with the late Bro . Colonel Le Gendre Nicholas Starkie as Deputy Provincial Grand Master . These two high Officers died within a few months of each other , and the places had to be filled simultaneously .

We understand upon good authority that Bro . J . H . Pollard , Crook Lodge , No . 2019 , is the only gentleman nominated for the office of Provincial Grand Treasurer of Durham . His appointment will be made at the Provincial meeting at Gateshead on the 26 th inst . Although the

appointment is a compliment to Mr . Pollard , his fellow Brethren and those in Masonic circles generally will readily admit that it is an honour that is most assuredly well

deserved . Bro . Pollard has done good service for the Crook Lodge , of which he is one of the Past Masters , and fellow Craftsmen in Durham generally will congratulate him upon the . honour which is shortly to be conferred upon him . — "Darlington Echo . "

For good or ill Freemasonry is a great power in Cornwall as elsewhere . There is a fear , which was expressed at the Provincial Grand Lodge at Launceston on Monday , that as the body becomes larger it may deteriorate , and , as the respected and beloved Provincial Grand Master put it , there

is a danger that men may be allowed to join it rather for the benefit they may get than for the benefit they may confer on others . Although the Grand Lodge was held so far off as Launceston , Truro and West Cornwall were very fairly represented . — " Royal Cornwall Gazette . "

The Percy Lodge of Instruction , No . 198 , has resumed its weekly meetings for the season at the Perseverance Hotel , South gate Road , N . Bro . J . A . Powell P . M . is the Preceptor and Bro . F . Stallard P . M . the Secretary . Meetings are held every Saturday , at 8 o ' clock .
