WESTERN DIVISION OF SOUTH WALES .
THE Deputy Provincial Grand Master presided over a meeting' of this Provincial Grand Lodge , held at the Masonic Club , Aberystwyth , on Thursday , 7 th inst ., when the . Officers were appointed for the year , and other business was transacted .
After the conclusion of work m the Lodge a party of some sixty or seventy sat down to a banquet together at the new Market Hall , the customary toasts being afterwards honoured .

NORTH AND EAST YORKSHIRE .
A MEETING of the Provincial Grand Lodge of the North and East Ridings was held on Thursday , 14 th inst ., at the Assembly Rooms , Blake Street , York , under the presidency of the Marquess of Zetland Provincial Grand Master , who was supported by his Deputy Lord Bolton P . G . W ., and an influential gathering of Officers of his Lodge and other Brethren , the assembly numbering between 200 and 300 .
Provincial Grand Lodge was opened in the usual form , after which the minutes of the Provincial Grand Lodge held at Whitby , on 15 th July 18 97 , and of the special meeting held at York on 5 th January 18 9 8 , were confirmed . The annual accounts and the annual report of the Board of Benevolence were taken as read and adopted .
On the motion of Bro . Potter Kirby , seconded by Bro . T . B . Whytehead , Bro . A . Jones , of the York Lodge , No . 236 , was elected Provincial Grand Treasurer . Bro . Tesseyman was re-elected representative of the Provincial Grand Lodge on the Charities Association , and Bro . S . Border was
elected representative in the room of Bro . Woodall , who has removed to the south of England . The Auditors were re-elected , as were the five members on the Provincial Board of General Purposes , with the substitution of Bro . W . Rose in the place of Bro . Woodall .
On the motion of the Provincial Grand Master , a vote of thanks was accorded Bro . Woodall , for the services he had rendered to the Freemasonry of the Province . The Officers for the ensuing year were afterwards appointed and invested , as follow :

regretted the disappointment which had been caused to the Brethren of the Ferrum Lodge . Since the last meeting there had been a Centenary meeting of the Boys School , at which the magnificent sum of £ 134 , 000 was subscribed . He was glad to hear that the Province had contributed £ 498 . Their
Educational Fund was continuing and extending its work , and there were now twenty-six children on the Fund receiving £ 276 per year . He trusted the liberality of the Brethren would enable the Fund to be increased . He concluded b y announcing that he had accepted an invitation of the Zetland

Lodge , No . 561 , to meet next year at Guisborough . He thanked the York Lodges for the handsome manner in which they had received and entertained them that day . This concluded the proceedings of Provincial Grand Lodge .
Some seventy Brethren afterwards sat down to an excellently served banquet by Mr . Bryan , at the De Grey Rooms , the Marquess of Zetland presiding . The Provincial Grand Master having given the toast of the Queen and the Craft , proposed H . R .. H . the Prince of
Wales M . W . Grand Master , the Pro Grand Master , and the Deputy Grand Master , and in doing so said that no more popular Grand Master than the Prince of Wales had ever reigned . He also eulogised the services of the Earl of Lathom and Earl Amherst .
Bro . Whytehead proposed the Most Hon . the Marquess of Zetland Provincial Grand Master , and the Right Hon . Lord Bolton Deputy Prov . Grand Master . He spoke of the great pleasure it gave them to have the Provincial Grand Master with them . He referred to the fact that the Marquess of Zetland ' s uncle also held the office of Provincial Grand
Master of North and East Yorkshire , and was also a Grand Master of England . They all remembered the delight they experienced when they heard who his successor was to be , and they hoped that he would be spared to them for many years . He also spoke in glowing terms of the services rendered to the Province by Lord Bolton .
The Provincial Grand Master , in his reply , alluded to the fact that it was twenty-four years since he was installed Grand Master of that Province . It had always been his endeavour to be with them on all occasions , and he was proud to think that there were only a few occasions when he was
absent . One of those was when he was occuping a position of responsibility in the Emerald Isle . It was a matter of great interest to himself to notice the great increase in Freemasonry and the popularity which it had gained in recent years . When the late Earl of Zetland was installed , in 1834 , there
were only seven Lodges in that wide Province . When he had the honour of succeeding to the post in 1874 the number of Lodges had increased to twenty-two , and now they numbered thirty-four . Lord Bolton also replied , and then proposed the W . Ms ., Officers , and Brethren ot the York Lodges .
Bro . A . Proctor , York Lodge , in reply , spoke eulogistically of the services of Bro . J . Kay , to whose efforts a great deal of the success of that gathering belonged . Bros . J . T . Chambers , Eboracum Lodge ; H . Woolford , Agricola Lodge ; and J . Melrose , Albert Victor Lodge , also responded .
Bro . Sykes Rymer proposed the Masonic Charities . Bro . J . Melrose proposed the Visiting Brethren , which was acknowledged by Bro . J . S . Cumberland , who appealed to the Brethren of the Province not to let their voting power in the matter of the Charities go down .
The parting toast from the Tyler concluded the proceedings . Bros . Dawson and Monaghan sang several songs during the evening , being accompanied by Bro . Child . The City String Band occupied the orchestra during dinner .
Bro . Henry Hill Worshipful Master St . John Lodge , No . 827 , Dewsbury , was married on Tuesday , 12 th inst ., to Miss Elizabeth Schultze-Denard , and received the hearty congratulations of a large number of Masonic and other
friends . Among the many presents received by the couple were a tantalus , a silver cigarette case , and a very handsome gold brooch set in pearls , the gift of the members of the St . John ' s Lodge .
Bro . Alderman Frederick Prat Alliston , recently elected a Sheriff of the City of London , has displayed considerable interest in Freemasonry , his services including a principal
share in the foundation of the Beckenham Lodge , No . 2047 , held at Beckenham , where he resides , and where , among other matters , he serves his neighbours as a member of the local School Board .
It is expected Masonic ceremony with be associated with the laying of the foundation stone of a new public hall and municipal buildings at Govan , on 17 th September next , and that a large number of Brethren from Glasgow and neighbourhood will be present .
