CORRESPONDENCE .

We do not hold ourselves responsible for tho opinions of our Correspondents . All Letters must bear the name and address of the Writer , not necessarily for publication , but as a guarantee of good faith . We cannot undertake to return rejected communications .

CUSTODIANS OP LODGE FUNDS .

To the Edi ' or of the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . DKAK SIK AND BROTHER , —I sympathise entirely with the spirit of your article iu last week ' s issue under the above head . Without , for a moment dealinsr with the reference made to the Provincial Grund Lo ( l <* e you speak of , in the matter of which , not being a member of

it , I am not immediately concerned , I will take , if you please , ns our American Brethren might say , a " bee-line " to the point . Evnry Lodge or Chapter , be it Grand or ordinary , should have a banking account opened in its name . The Treasurer should commit to it all the monies he receives ou its bshalf , and draw upon it by cheque for the demands made upon him as Treasurer . A countersignature is

a relinement , andi 3 suggestive of needless circumlocution . Confidence in the Treasnrer should be sufficient for paying in and paying out with the usual audit each year . I have been a Treasurer myself , and am still so in one body in Masonry , and I have initiated each time I have been in office the system of which we are speaking . I havo done so for more than one

reason—1 . That , if I died , my Executors would have no trouble about matters they kuenr nothing of , and confusion , perhaps loss too , would be saved to the Lodge . 2 . Because while alive it gave satisfaction to self and brethren who would know exactly where they were ,

and—3 . In the evsntof death aforesaid , and I may as well go furtherresignation while alive , bankruptcy , insolvency , however remote , & c , tho account could be easily transferred to the name of a new Treasurer , appointed to succeed tho other , without impairing the solvency of the Lodge itself , in whoso name the account stood .

For any Mason to take " umbrage at a Lodge impressing upon him this when he ought voluntarily to have insisted upon ifc , is to argue himself nnanited to fill the otlice of Treasurer . I do not require to talk of instances where loss has been sustained , when what wo say has been at variance with practice ; but I maintain that what is suggested is the right- theory . It is no answer to tell

me what I have heard stated before , that , tho transactions would bo so small , or trivial , that a bank would not look ut an account of tho kind . It is sufficient for mo to say that banto now-a-days are accommodative , and I havo practiced what 1 have laid down as a Treasurer , and am practising it still with satisfaction to myself and all concerned . I recommend every Masonic organisation to adopt tho name course . Yours fraternally , P . A . G . D . C .
