NOTICES OF MEETINGS .

— : o : — CAMDEN LODGE , No . 704 .

THERE was a goodly assemblage at this Lodge on Tuesday evening , afc tbe Guildhall Tavern , Gresham-street , to witness the installation of Bro . Dr . Nathaniel Goodchild as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . Lodge was opened with the customary formalities

goon after three o'clock , under the presidency of the retiring W . Master Bro . Frederick William Rogers , who was well supported by hig Officers . Amongst the Past Masters present were Bros . J . N . Frost , A . Pocklington , H . C . Soper , and W . Gray . The Visitors in . eluded Bros . S . M . Lazarus P . M . 539 P . G . W . Wilts , J . D . Collier P . M . 1366 , H . E . Coffin 167 , G . J . Reynolds 1524 , K . Wyland 706 ,

H , E . Kirby 554 , Henry Preston 1319 , Henry Parker 1319 , A . Vogri , and many others . The minutes of last meeting having been con . firmed , Lodge was advanced , and Bro . Rintoul having proved himself worthy , was raised to the sublime degree by the Wor . Master , who performed the impressive ceremony with his accustomed ability . Having lowered to the second degree , Bro . Eose was passed

the same remark applying to the work here as in the former rite . Resuming in the first , the ballot was opened for Mr . Francis Izant , of High Holborn , whose sponsors were Bros . Sayers and W . H . Kehl . The voting nnanimously in favour , Mr . Izant ; was duly initiated into the privileges and mysteries of the Order , the ceremony being admirably gone through . Bro . Dr . Nathaniel Goodchild was then

presented as the Worshipful Master elect ; and , having assented to the various interrogations , a Body of Installed Masters was duly constituted , and he was inducted with all honours into the chair of K . S . On readmission of the brethren he was proclaimed and saluted with the customary honours , Bro . Eogers acting most efficiently as Installing Officer , and delivering the solemn charges with much effect .

The newly-installed Worshipful Master then invested his Officers for the ensuing year , the collars being thus bestowed : —Bros . W . F . Sogers I . P . M ., T . Blank S . W ., F . Ince J . W ., Edward Wm . Young P . M . Sec , G . Britten P . M . Treasurer , F . Triuder S . D ., J . Bindon J . D ., W . H . Kehl I . G ., H . Howe M . C , Geo . Osborn Organist , J . Very Tyler . After the transaction of some formal business , Lodge was

dosed in form , and the brethren aud visitors adjourned to the throne-room of the hotel , where a sumptuous banquet was provided by Messrs . Bitter and Clifford , the arrangements , nnder the personal superintendence of Bro . Henry Mills , eliciting unbounded expressions of appreciation . The nsual Loyal and Masonio toasts were duly honoured , the health of the newly . installed Worshipful Master being

received with special enthusiasm , testifying to his deserved popularity amongst all the brethren of the Lodge . The proceedings , whioh were of the most harmonious and enjoyable description , were enlivened by some excellent vocal and instrumental music , in which several professional ladies and gentlemen took a prominent and effective part .

Boyal Union Lodge of Instruction , No . 382 . —Meet , ing held on Monday , 17 th inst ., at the Chequers Hotel , Uxbridge . Bros . Brooks W . M ., Howies S . W ., Cotton J . W ., Nicholson S . D ., Taplin J . D ., Duffin I . G . and Tyler . After preliminaries , Bro . Taplin

gave proof of his proficiency in the first degree . Lodge was advanced to tbe second degree , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . Taplin candidate . Bro . Bowles S . W . was unanimously elected to fill the chair at the next meeting . Lodge was closed , and adjourned until Monday , the 24 th inst .

united Pilgrim ' s Lodge of Instruction , No . 507 . — At the meeting of this Lodge of Instrnction , held at the Surrey Masonio Hall , Camberwell , S . E ., on Friday evening , the 14 th instant , Bro . Bichard Poore , as W . M ., was well supported , there being preient , amongst others , Bros . Henry Baldwin S . W ., J . B . Sarjeant J . W ., 6 . W . Knight S . D ., H . M . Williams J . D ., H . Hooper I . G ., John S . Terry P . M . and Sec ., James Stevens P . M . Hon . Preceptor , J . Bate , « c . Lodge was opened in due form , and Bro . Bate as candidate for

passing was proved and entrusted . Lodge was opened in fche second degree , and the ceremony was very effectively rehearsed by the W . M ., who , as a yonng Mason , is most creditably progressing in Lodge working . The lecture on the . tracing board in the second degree was delivered by the Preceptor , and gave general satisfaction . ¦ Lod ge was closed to the first degree , and the brethren received ie

ON Friday afternoon , in the presence of a number of W . M . 's and other members of the Craft , Bro . J . Laverty was installed W . M . of this Lodge . A handsome P . M . ' s jewel was presented to the retiring W . M . The Jewel bore the following inscription : —

"Presented by the members of the United Service Lodge , No . 1428 , to Bro . G . P . Arnold P . M , on his retiring from the chair , as a token of esteem and regard . 1881-82 . "

St . John ' s Lodge of Instruction , No . 1564 . —A meeting was held at the Prince of Wales Hotel , Knaphill , on 12 th instant , when the first two sections of the first lecture were worked by the Preceptor and six brethren of the Lodge . The Preceptor ( Bro . J . Webster P . D . G . J . W . Gibraltar ) having stated in an address that

perhaps there were some brethren present who were not acquainted with the qualifications necessary for members of Provincial Grand Lodge , proceeded to read extracts from Oliver ' s " Jurisprudence " on the subject , whioh were listened to with great interest by the brethren . This Lodge of Instruction is in a flourishing condition , and has proved of great service to members of the regular Lodge .

Brixton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1949 . —On Tuesday evening , afc Bro . Monk ' s , Prince Regent , Dulwich-road , Bast Brixton , a goodly number of brethren assembled . Bros . E . M . Money W . M ., T . C . Edmonds S . W ., H . Hooper J . W ., E . A . Francis Preceptor , H . M . Williams Secretary , R . Poore S . D ., G . W . Knight J . D ., H . Goodwin I . G . j J . Moss , A . E . Albert , George Monk , E . Storr .

James Hill , J . Bate , 0 . E . Hill , and others . Lodge was opened in due form , and the Secretary read fche minutes of the previous meeting , which were confirmed . Lodge was then opened in the second and third , and resumed to the first degree . The W . M . ably rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , with Bro . Moss as candidate , giving the charge , tie also rehearsed the ceremony of raising , wifcu Bro . Albert

as candidate . Lodge was closed in the third and second degrees The following brethren were unanimously elected members of the Lodge : —Bros . James Hill Skelmersdale 1658 , J . Bate Jubilee 72 , Thomas Harris Stockwell , H . C . E . Hill Skelmersdale 1658 . Bro . T . C . Edmonds was appointed W . M . for the ensuing week , and Lodge

was closed in due form . We are gratified to see the progress this new Lodge of Instructiou is making . As many of our readers , by reason of this being " recess" season , are unable to attend their regular haunts , we can cordially recommend them to pay the Brixton Craftsmen a visit .

HARBOURS OF REPUGE . —A Society has been formed for the promotion of Increased Places of Safety on our Coasts for Fishermen and Mariners . The splendid Society , the Royal National Life-boat In . stitution , saves 600 lives per annum ; but , in spite of this , there are about 800 lives lost each year . Ifc is desired to save as many of this latter number as possible . An influential Committee has been formed

to carry out this object , and ifc is supported by the Dnke of Teok , by fifty Peers , the Archbishops , twelve of the Bishops , aud nearly 200 Members of Parliament . The purpose of the Society is to direct public attention to the existing national calamity , to arrange deputations and public meetings , and to carry out the work arranged by the Committee . The Prince of Wales , on his recent visit to Hastings ,

in reply to an address from the fishermen , expressed great sympathy with the movement , he himself having a brother and two sons exposed to the perils it is sought to mitigate . The Rev . James Weller , of Amersham , and the Rev . G . Roy Badenoch , LL . D ., Whitehall-gardens , have been amongst the earliest workers for this object j and Mr . F . Johnson , of St . Leonard's-on . Sea , the Hon . Secretary , was the original

organiser . It is hoped that the public will subscribe liberally in support of so noble and patriotic an undertaking , a work which cannot fail to enlist the warmest sympathy of fche English people . If energetically supported , the Committee have every hope and prospect of success . Subscriptions should be forwarded to Mr . F , Johnson , the Hon . Secretary . The splendid Society , the Royal National Life-boat In . stitution , saves 600 lives per annum ; but , in spite of this , there are about 800 lives lost each year . Ifc is desired to save as many of this latter number as possible . An influential Committee has been formed

to carry out this object , and ifc is supported by the Dnke of Teok , by fifty Peers , the Archbishops , twelve of the Bishops , aud nearly 200 Members of Parliament . The purpose of the Society is to direct public attention to the existing national calamity , to arrange deputations and public meetings , and to carry out the work arranged by the Committee . The Prince of Wales , on his recent visit to Hastings ,

in reply to an address from the fishermen , expressed great sympathy with the movement , he himself having a brother and two sons exposed to the perils it is sought to mitigate . The Rev . James Weller , of Amersham , and the Rev . G . Roy Badenoch , LL . D ., Whitehall-gardens , have been amongst the earliest workers for this object j and Mr . F . Johnson , of St . Leonard's-on . Sea , the Hon . Secretary , was the original

organiser . It is hoped that the public will subscribe liberally in support of so noble and patriotic an undertaking , a work which cannot fail to enlist the warmest sympathy of fche English people .
