THE GIRLS SCHOOL
SATUEDAY next , the last Saturday of June , is recognised as ex-pupils day at the Eoyal Masonic Institution for Girls , at Battersea Eise , when a hearty welcome is offered all those who can make , it convenient to spend an hour or cwo of the afternoon at their old home . To say that such a re-union is productive of many pleasing memories really seems superfluous ,
as one can imagine the happy meetings that take place under such circumstances ; but a far more beneficial factor in the case , so far as the Institution is concerned , should be the example set
to the present pupils , who will doubtless be brought into close commune on this occasion with many who are a living testimony to the benefits of the School in which they were trained , and a credit to the Craft which was able to care for them in their time
of misfortune . It may also be that these re-unions tend to keep alive an interest in the Institution on the part of old pupils , who , in one way or another may seek to repay the benefits they
received in their younger days , and so help to provide for some of their equally unfortunate sisters of the present . We hope a large gathering may result this year , and that all will enjoy the reminder of old times that must accrue on such an occasion .

THE BOYS SCHOOL .
A SPECIALLY interesting musical and miscellaneous entertainment was given to the pupils of the Eoyal Masonic Institution for Boys on Tuesday last , when Brother William Short and Bro . William Bradford ( of the Derby Allcroft Lodge , No . 2168 ) , and other friends were the entertainers , and
won the heartiest applause from " Our Boys . " Bro . Short had charge of the band , which included several well known Brethren , by whom he was most loyally supported . It is very gratifying to find Brethren taking so much interest in the pupils of the School , giving their time and ability to ensure their enjoyment .
The rumour to which publicity was lately given regarding the proposed re-issue of Bro . D . Murray Lyon ' s " History of Freemasonry , " is , says " The Mallet , " in " Glasgow Evening News , " well founded . " During a short interview I had with the Grand Secretary it transpired that , while he has made no
definite arrangements for the printing and publishing of the History , the matter is all prepared , and the additional data he proposes giving in the new edition is now in the hands of a prominent member of the Craft who is well informed on the ancient history of Freemasonry , and able to verify dates ,
documents , & c . There are to be no portraits in this edition . The expenses of the plates in the 1873 edition more than swallowed up the profits that would have accrued from the printing and publishing of the book . Portraits in any form are always an
expensive item , and are , after all , only of transitory interest . There will , however , be several facsimiles of documents of historic value and interest included in the pages . Should Bro . Lyon get sufficient encouragement to go to press the book will contaiu the names of the subscribers . "
It is customary among the Craft in European countries to hold a Lodge of Sorrow once a year in memory of those Brethren who have passed to the Grand Lodge above . On that solemn occasion the roll of those who have preceded us to the Unknown Land is called , and the Orator of the Lodge
iu an appropriate speech , and in accordance with a special Eitual , lovingly speaks of the dead , mentions their virtues and charitable deeds , and finally directs the attention of his hearers to the great lessons which Freemasonry teaches . This practice , which has much to commend
it , is one which might reasonably be followed here . It is unfortunately a melancholy fact that those who have passed away , after serving in the ranks of the Craft , are too soon
forgotten , and it would therefore seem appropriate to dedicate an evening annually in our Lodges to recall them to memory . — " Kilmarnock Herald . "
