entered the room in due order , after which the W . M . and his Wardens , the I . P . M ., Treasurer , and Secretary ascended the platform , A beautiful placque , with hand-painted portrait of the W . M ., got up by Messrs . Doulton and Co ., was presented to the W . M . in a very feeling speech by Bro . Beech ,

who alluded to the very high estimation in which the W . M . was held , not only by the Brethren of his Lodge , but by his fellow townsmen , in both his public and private capacity . Bro , Mason heartily endorsed every word Bro . Beech had said .

The W . M . Bro . Saunders , in accepting tho presentation , said he felt very grateful to Bro . Beech for his kind words , and ho trusted that he should always continue to hold the esteem and respect of all with whom he was connected . The procession was then re-formed , after which dancing was resumed .

FORTITUDE LODGE , No . 105 . THE annual banquet was held at Freemasons' Club , Plymouth , on Friday , 7 th . inst ., under the presidency of the W . M . Bro . B . Bobinson liood jun .

Interspersed with the toasts were excellent songs and recitations by Bros . J . G . Bone , Foot , E . G . Dyke , Bradford , Jew , W . Biscombe , and B . Twose . Bro . Taylor S . W . gave a game course , a very acceptable addition to the banquet .

PHILANTHROPIC LODGE , No . 107 . THE members held their anniversary on Monday , 3 rd inst ., at the Masonic Booms , Duke ' s Head Hotel , Lynn , when Bro . Thomas Peake was installed as Worshipful Master . Afterwards , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro . Hamon le Strange P . G . D . England presented to Brother G . S . Woodward P . M . P . P . G . S . W .

Charity Steward of the Lodge , a Past Provincial Grand Senior Warden s jewel , with suitable inscription , as a token of the esteem of the members of the Lodge , and in appreciation of the great services he had rendered from the time he became a member in 1866 , on behalf of the Charities , and with

their fraternal regard . Bro . le Strange , whose history of Freemasonry for the Province of Norfolk is now in course of publication , then read to the members the portion of that work relating to the Lodge , which was listened to with great interest and appreciation by the Brethren .

HARMONY LODGE , No . 156 . THE annual installation banquet was held on Thursday , 6 th inst ., at the Masonic Club , Princess Square , Plymouth . In the absence , through illness , of the respected Master Bro . George Henry Widger , Brother C . S . Stebbing I . P . M . presided , and during tho evening was presented with a handsome gold jewel , suitably inscribed .

Feeling reference was made to Bro . G . H . Widger s absence , and the hope expressed that he would speedily recover .

BENEVOLENT LODGE , No . 303 . ON Monday , 10 th inst ., the annual installation was held at Teignmouth , when Bro . F . E . Little was installed into the chair by Bro . A . T . Crossley .

BOROUGH LODGE , No . 424 . ON Monday , 17 th inst ., the annual meeting was held in the Masonic Hall , Half Moon Lane , Gateshead , there being a large attendance of members and visiting Brethren .

Bro . Wm . J . Heppell W . M .-eleqt was presented for installation by Bro . James Shaw P . M . P . J . G . D . D . C . and the ceremony was very ably performed by the retiring W . M . Brother Thomas B . Short P . M . P . P . G . Stwd ., and accompanied by a full choral service , impressively rendered by the choir .

LODGE OF SYMPATHY , No . 483 . A MEETING was held at the Clarendon Hotel , Gravesend , on the 12 th inst ., under the presidency of Bro . H . Forss VV . M ., assisted by Bros . B . J . Beamish P . M ., W . Hawker S . W ., J . P . Moore J . W ., J . P . White S . D ., J . Willis J . D ., A . Bonaldson P . M . Secretary , J . Galler I . G ., Courben D . G ., W . Hayward P . M ., Bayfield , A . White , Axcell , Andrews , F . White .

Messrs . William Wilson , Thomas Duerden Gee and Ernest Cecil Portch were regularly initiated into Freemasonry ; Bro . Henry Cavill was passed as a Fellow Craft ; and Bros . T . A . Mummery and 0 . P . Bowen were raised to

the sublime degree . The first and last of the ceremonies were worked by Bro . Forss , with his customary excellence , and Bro . Beamish performed the ceremony in the second degree .

The W . M . proposed and Bro . Beamish seconded that the sum of ten guineas be granted from the Lodge funds towards a testimonial to Brother George Martin , upon his completing fifty jears service as Tyler . A sum of five guineas was voted to Bro . Adamson ' s testimonial fund now being raised in the Province of Kent .

The consent of the Lodge was given for the formation of a Boyal Arch Chapter , to be held under its warrant ; and two candidates were proposed for initiation at the next meeting . This concluding the business , the Lodge was closed in duo form , and the Brethren adjourned to supper .

CAMALODUNUM LODGE , No . 660 . ON Tuesday , 18 th , the Brethren celebrated their annual festival , when Bro . John Spanton S . W . W . M .-elect was installed into the chair .

o o O ROYAL LODGE , No . 643 . THE annual installation meeting was held at Filey , on Monday , 10 th inst ., when Bro . H . P . Baines was regularly placed in the chair as ruler for thc ensuing year .

PANMURE LODGE , No . 723 . A NUMEBOUS gathering took place on Tuesday , 11 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Aldershot , the occasion being the installation of Brother Thomas Wells S W .

The duties of Installing Master were undertaken by Bro . J . S . Hickley P . M . They were performed in his usual able manner , his efforts being so much appreciated by the Brethren that a special vote of thanks was moved and carried unanimously .

Great regret and sympathy was expressed by the members at the absence , through severe illness , of Bro . H . Stone I . P . M . " It was the first time he had missed an installation meeting for twenty-one years . Earnest hopes were expressed for his speedy recovery , and in recognition of the services he had rendered , and as a mark of respect , a Past Master ' s jewel was voted to him from the Lodge funds .

Bro . Wells , in making the presentation to the Secretary , who received it as a deputy , said he hoped that Bro . Stone would live to wear it in the Panmure Lodge for very many years . After the banquet the W . M ., responding to his health , thanked the Brethren for the manner in which they had received the toast , and trusted

that the Officers he had appointed would give him their undivided support . With that secured he felt he might predict a prosperous year for the Lodge . He also announced his intention of going up as Steward for the Boys

Institution , and he hoped each member would bear this in mind and place something on his list , thus assisting the Lodge in again holding that proud position of having greater voting power for the Charities than any other in the Province of Hampshire .

Bro . Bichard Eve P . M . made one of his telling speeches in responding for the Masonic Charities .

PRINCE OF WALES LODGE , No . 1012 . THE members held a meeting at the Derby Hotel , Bury , on Thursday , 6 th inst ., for the purpose of installing Bro . B . K . Boberts , Tottington Hall , as W . M . The installing Officers were Bros . Mitchell , Newbold , and Alcock .

ST . PETER LODGE , No . 1125 . THE annual gathering took place on the 12 th inst ., at Tiverton , and was largely attended . Bro . J . W . A . Pleass W . M .-elect was installed in due and ancient form by Bro . J . F . Ellerton P . M .

OAKWOOD LODGE , No . 1126 . ON the 15 th inst ., at the National Schools , Bomiley , Bros . Henry Greenhalgh W . M ., Harry White S . W ., William Henry Boos J . W ., William F . Brownrigg Treas ., E . Clough I . P . M . Sec . Visitors : O . B . Wbittaker 2185 , J . C . Grime 163 , Thomas Brooks P . M , 323 P . P . G . A . D . C .

After the formalities of opening , the balance-sheet was discussed and passed . The ballot was taken for two joining members : Bros . James Arthur Penny S . W . Concord Lodge , No . 323 , and George James Hufton also of No . 323 , they being proposed by Bro . E . Clough I . P . M . Sec , and seconded by j W . Leathley P . M . D . C . C . B . The ballot proved favourable , and the members wero admitted .

Hearty good wishes were expressed by the visitors , and , there being no other business , the Lodge was closed and the brethren adjourned to the social board , where the usual toasts were given , and the two joining members arid the visitors heartily responded to toasts in their behalf .

CLARENDON LODGE , No . 1166 . A T the meeting held at the Queen ' s Hotel , Hyde , on Thursday , 30 th ulfc ., the ceremony of installing Bro . W . Whyte McLeod was performed in a most impressive manner , ' and before a large and distinguished gathering of members and Provincial Officers , by Bro . W . H . Dutton P . M . P . P . G . A . D . C .

BARNARD LODGE , No . 1230 . THE annual meeting was held in the Masonic Hall , Barnard Castle , on Friday , 7 th inst ., when Bro . E . D . Walrond was installed W . M .

SKELMERSDALE LODGE , No . 13 SO . ON Monday , 10 th inst ., in Lathom Hall , Seaforth , Bro . Thomas Edwards was installed as Worshipful Master in the presence of a large gathering of Brethren of his own and other Lodges . The chair at the opening was taken- by Bro . A . Arrowsmith W . M .

EMULATION LODGE , No . 1505 . rriHE members commemorated the 21 st year of the Lodge on the lOchinst ., I at Liverpool , by entertaining their lady friends to dinner . The ladies were received by the Worshipful Master Bro . John _ . Williams and Mrs , Williams , in the large Lodge Boom at the Masonic Hall , Hope Street . The W . M . welcomed the guests ( who numbered about 150 ) , and conducted them to the banqueting hall .

After the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts the W . M . gave the toast of the evening , the ladies . He remarked that the Emulation Lodge had been twenty-one years in existence , and this was the first time they had entertained their lady friends . He was quite sure that now having arrived at the years of discretion they would not be as many months in again having a similar happy gathering .

On behalf of the ladies , Bro . Latarche responded , and said they were only too pleased to meet tho Masonic Brethren , within the walls of the Masonic Hall , and if possible to g > un some of their secrets . The toast of the W . M . was proposed by the I . P . M . Bro . Eastwood , who commended the innovation of having ladies present to participate in the good things provided .

Bro . Foote P . P . G . Treas . afterwai-ds presented Mrs . Williams with a very handsome bouquet , consisting of tulips , lilies of the valley , and hyacinths , from the Brethren of the Lodge . The W . M . responded to the toast of himself and his wife , and thanked the Brethren for their reception , and particularly for the beautiful bouquet .
