Covent Garden . —So good were the fancy dresses at the last ball that the judges found a great difficulty as to the awarding of the prizes , so many costumes being of equal beauty and merit . In this dilemma extra prizes were hastily improvised . The first prize , a hundred-guinea piano , was given to the wearer of " Gooseberry Fool , " a beautiful dress designed by Mr . Percy Anderson ; the Balli car was won by " Cleopatra , " and the cycle by the " Queen of Sheba . "
Drury Lane . —Owing to the success of " Cinderella , " six matinees a week will continue to be given of this popular pantomime . Such a run has hitherto been unknown even at Drury Lane , for usually by Ash Wednesday Sir Augustus Harris reduces the morning performances to three a week . Globe . —Brother W . S . Penley has generously accorded the use of the above Theatre , on Tuesday , the 3 rd of March next , for a Matinee performance for Mr . Stewart Dawson , who has been suffering since May
last from failure of the heart , severe nervous prostration and other complications , which have entirely incapacitated and will for an indefinite period prevent him from the exercise of his profession , leaving him with wife and four children in a helpless condition . The performance is under distinguished patronage , including chat of His Grace the Duke of Beaufort , K . G ., Earl of Bosebery , K . G ., K . T ., Earl of Londesborough , Earl of
Winchilsea and Nottingham , Earl of Durham , Earl of Ava , Viscount Falmouth , O . B ., Viscount Baring , The Hon . Frederic Henley , Sir Beginald Hardy , Bart ., Sir John W . Courtney , Esq ., T . Salt , Esq ., & c , while a very influential Committe includes the names of the chief theatrical artistes of the day . The programme includes " The New Husband , " A Comedietta , in one act , by Cotsford Dick ; A new Musical Sketch , with Dances ; Second Act of ¦ ' A Woman's Boason ; " Costume Becital of a Scene from " Uriel A . Kosta ; " A
Duologue in one Act ; " Villian and Victim , " A Play in one Act by W . B . Wakes , and a large number of special features by leading actors , including Harry Nicholls , Herbert Campbell , Arthur Boberts , Dan Leno , & c , & c . The arrangements are in the capable hands of Mr . F . Gosnay , and will doubtless prove another success to add to the many previous good works of this house in affording assistance in a time of misfortune .
Royalty . —Mr . Arthur Bourchior and his company visited the New Theatre at Cambridge , on Tuesday , and gave a flying matinee of " The Chili Widow . " The house was packed from floor to ceiling , and at the end of the performance , in answer to numerous calls , Mr . Bourchier made a humorous speech , and announced that he would return very shortly . The Great Northern ran a special from Cambridge .
Savoy . —The date of the production of the new opera , by Mr . W . S . Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan , has been fixed for Saturday evening , 7 th March . BRO . ATKINSON ' S charming daughters , who travel under the cognomen of "The Sisters Woerth , " have made a decided hit in the Bradford Pantomime which has iust drawn to a successful close . These talented
ladies , in addition to doing a principal turn in speciality dancing , take the parts of Harlequina and Columbine , a decided novel innovation which has , however , proved a pronounced success . The Sisters Woerth are aged seventeen and eighteen respectively . We predict for them a highly prosperous future , and congratulate Bro . Atkinson upon their meritorious performance .
Among the candidates for the next election of the Eoyal Masonic Institution for Boys is Arnold Beverly Miners , eldest son of the late Senior Warden of the St . James ' s Union Lodge , No . 180 , who died with painful suddenness , and without having had the opportunity of making any provision for his wife and four children . The case is strongly recommended , and should secure
the sympathy of a large number of Brethren , but in view of the great competition that exists at the present day for places in the Boys School , every vote is of importance , and we accordingly ask any of our readers who are not yet pledged to forward their proxies to Bro , W . 0 . Parsons P . M . and Sec . of 180 , at 4 Mount Street , Grosvenor Square .
MR . H . G . DRURY , Assistant Superintendent of the Great Eastern Bailway , is issuing a small book which gives a list of the principal horse fairs and racing fixtures for 1896 , and will send a copy free upon application .
