Long , who baa been settled in Manchester for a lengthened period , has boon a member of the Trnfford Lodgo for 19 years . For 16 years of that period he declined offers of advancement , preferring to fill the post of Organist , for which hia musical talents fully qualify him .

LOOKING back is not at all times a pleasing occupations bnt there are occasions when we may indulge in it with profit and pleasure , reviewing in regular order the events of days gone by , and associating them with the present in a manner that is produc'ive of the hig hest sense of enjoyment . Such an opportunity occurred on the occasion of our visit to the Metropolian Lodge on Wedne * day , to participate in the annual gathering , witness th . - *) installation ,
and tender our hearty good wishes to the new ruler of this distinguished and popular home of London Masonry . Wo can well remember the preparation of the first number of tho FKEEHASON ' S CHRONIC ** . ** , now nearly nineteen years ago , and some of the brethren with whom we first came into contact by reason of onr asf 02 iation with the paper were thos 3 whom we to-day seo nt the
head of affairs in this Metropolian Lodge , and in tho many off-shoots that have sprung from it , by reason of the vigorous growth and continned activity that has always marked it * career . Onr first issue contained a report of the third meeting of the Metropolitan Lodge , oven then described as a " flourishing" Lodge , presided over by Bro . James Willing who , on the evening in question , conferred tho
third degree on , among others , two brethren who w -re present a ; Wednesday ' s meeting , as vigorous as we knew them in their early days in the Craft : Bro . W . M . Stiles and Bro . C . J . Scile ? . Tra " , we were not then permitted to address them as brothers , for the reason that we were not of an age to allow of our initiation , bat they took an active share in our preparation for advancement when we were
admitted to Masonic Light a few months afterwards , and we have had the satisfaction of numbering them among our truest friends over since . The meeting of Wednesday saw the twentieth Master of the Lodge placed in the chair , and it is worthy of nets that of the nineteen who preceded him ten rose to the toast of the Past Masters , and tendered their wishes for the continued prosperity of the Lodge .
Of the absentees , Bro . Willing was away at one of the daughter Lodges , the Cricklewood , installing its W . M . ; others were prevented from one cause or another from being present , while otbera again have , alas , gone over to the great majority , among the latter b- ing another old friend , the first Senior Warden of th * 3 Lodge , Bro . J . J . Michael .

M . jewel which had beoa vc ted by the Lodge as a mai k of the grat Ileation of tho members at the way in which the affairs had been managed daring the past TCir . Brr . McEwen feelingly expressed the
sentiments of the memberp , and concluded with the wish that tho Giver of all good would look a'tir tl o Immediate Past Master for many years to come , nnd edible him to wear their jewel aoioig them on many future occasions . The jewel bore the following inscription :
" Presented to Bro . R . W . FRASER P . M ., by the METKOI * , . TAN LODGE , No . 1507 , as a mark of esteem and in recognition of his able and valued services a 3 W . M . 1892-93 . "
The I . P . M . in reply said the appreciation of the brethren had really overcome him . He should always remember with satisfaction tho pleasing and kind expressions that had been showered npon him on the occasion of his joining the army of Past Masters , with the satisfaction of feeling that the brethren considered he had done his duty . The names of two gentlemen were submitted as candidates for
initiation . The resignation of a Brother now in bad health was accepted , and a vote of sympathy with him in bis sufferings was unanimously passed , coupled with the regret of the whole Lodge at the cause of his enforced withdrawal . Other matters of business were ( hen disposed of , after which tbe company , to the number of 80—51 members and 29 visitors—repaired to the banquet hall , whero
a splendid repast awaited them . Bro . Clomow , the proprietor , personally superintended the service aud secured thu satifaction of all present . At the conclusion of the banquet the usual toasts were given . Tho I . P . M . proposing the health of the Worshipfnl Master , spoke of the
estimable qualities of the new ruler—wall known to every member of the Lodge , of which he might justly ba said to bo a good friend . He might truly say that no Brother was more popular or more esteemed in tho Metropolitan Lodge tiian their Bro . McEwen , for whom they all wished a most successful term of offue .
