Berkshire.

Wednesday , 18 th , when the proceedings were favoured with brilliant weather . The gathering proved to be the largest ever held in connection with the Craft in Berkshire , excepting only the installation of the Duke of Clarence by the Prince of Wales ,

which took place at Reading on the formation of Berks and Bucks into separate Provinces . The majority of the Brethren who responded to Lord Wantage's invitation travelled by special train to Wantage Road Station on the Great Western Railway , and thence in brakes through his lordship's model

arid picturesque estate to Lockmge House , a few miles distant ; but those from Abingdon , Newbury , and other neighbouring towns drove the whole way by routes which took them

through some of the most beautiful and fertile portions of the county , where the hay harvest has just been completed , and the heavy corn crops are assuming a golden hue under the powerful influence of the sun .

On alighting at the mansion the visitors , numbering about 300 , were cordially received by Lord and Lady Wantage . The annual Provincial Grand Lodge was opened shortly after midday in the large and handsome saloon , under the presidency of Lord Wantage , who was supported by Lord

Addington Provincial Grand Master of Bucks , Bros . Morland Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Berks , John W . Martin , S . C . Kirschhoffer , J . E . Bowen , J . M . McLeod , Beaver , W . B . Fendick , and other Grand Officers ; Brother A . K . Lloyd , M . P . ; and representatives of all the Lodges in the county .

After the routine business had been gone through the Provincial Grand Lodge voted £ 20 to the South African Masonic Relief Fund . Lord Wantage subsequently entertained the whole party at a luncheon , served in recherche

style beneath an immense marquee erected on the lawn , and the Craftsmen were here joined by Lady Wantage and Mrs . Lloyd . Masonic toasts were honoured , and the health of Lord and Lady Wantage was drunk with immense enthusiasm .

Bro . McLeod Secretary of the Royal Masonic Boys School , in responding for the Visitors , congratulated Lord Wantage on presiding over a happy , harmonious , and very charitable Province .

At the conclusion of the luncheon a quartette from St . George's Chapel , Windsor , sang several glees , and the visitors having inspected the lovely surroundings of the mansion , started early in the evening on their homeward journies .
