Lodge was regularly closed and the brethren adjourned to banqnet , after which the enstomary toasts were given . That of the Queen and the Craft having been honoured , tho new Master gave the health of the Most Worshipful the Graud Master . Members of the Craft
wero particularly pleased to hear that tho Prince of Wales had returned from tho Contineut in improved health , and that he had reaped benefit from his change , after the very heavy bereavement and trial through which ho had passed . They were highly gratified at having the first gentleman in tho laud at their head , and hoped he wonld long do them tho honour of
presiding over the destinies of the Craft . With tho toast of the Grand Officers was coupled the health of the Provincial Grand Officers , Brothers Baldwin and Stnrge being asked to respond , which they did in a most hearty manner . Bro . H . W . Casperd P . M . proposed the next toast , that of the newly-installed Worshipful Master . It was his proud pleasuro to introduce the
present Master of tho Lodge—who was his own brother—in 1885 , and he was initiated on the same day a 3 were the two brethren now filling the Wardens' chairs . While he had had every desire to personally instal his brother , he regretted that considerations of health had prevented it . He had turned to their evor ready Secretary , and asked him to undertake tho duties , with the result , as they
all knew , that they had been faithfully and impressively performed . Bro . P . M . Casperd had mnoh pleasure in asking tho members of the Lodge aud the visitors to drink to the health of the present Master , and wish him every success daring his term of office . In reply tbe Worshipfnl Master tendered his sincere thanks for the hearty manner in which ho had been reooivod in tho Lodge . The present
was certainly a proud moment in his life . On the night of his initiation in tbo Samson Lodge—to which his brother had referrod —he had little thought ho should ever be able to work np to its chair , but ho had not long boeu associated with Freemasonry before ho became iuqnisitivo and dosired to know more of its principles . InqnisitivonoHS had led to ambition to advance , and as a result lie
was now at tho bond of his Lodge , a position which ho hoped to fill to the satisfaction of tho members , and to his own credit . ILe had learned lo love tho principles of the Craft , because it had taught him to love those with whom it brought him into contact . Ho hoped the Lodge would prosper under his direction and in tho future , and that they might meet with equal pleasure to instal succeeding Masters aa was tho case that day . Having explained that their
iuitiate had been prevented by ill health from attending the meeting , the Worshipful Master took the opportunity of introducing a toast , iu lieu of the next on the programme , which was thut of the Iuitiate , iu favour of their Installing Master Bro . Baron D . Barnott . Tho brethren must have all felt , as ho had done , that the ceremony of the day was most impressively performed . If the rendering had had the same eif ' eot on them as it had had on him its benefits would
not pass ofi for many a long day . Personally ho owed a great debt of gratitude to the Installing Master , inasmuch as be had undertaken the dnties he had so ably performed at the very last moment ; but then he was always most willing and kind in hi 3 efforts to promote the wolfaro of tho Lodge aud the comfort of its members . Bro . Barnett iu reply said he felt considerable gratification in being so
kindly spoken of and heartily received in the Lodge . At one time he had almost regretted he was not to instal the present Master , but he would willingly have given way to Bro . Past Master Casperd , who , however , had had to relinquish the task , being specially forbidden by his medical adviser to undertake the work and its accompanying worry . However much he regretted the cause that had led to his
installing the present Master of the Samson Lodge he ( Bro . Barnett ) could but express the pleasuro he felt in performing the work , more especially as he esteemed Bro . Casperd very much , and considered him second to none iu the Samson Lodge . He thanked the members very much for the kind way in which they always acted towards him , aud assured them he waa always ready to perform any ceremony iu his power on behalf of the
Lodge . The Master next asked the brethren to drink to tho health of fne three brethren initiated siuco thoir last banquet , which was done , and the compliment was duly acknowledged . Thou followed the toast of the Visitors . Tho Master was pleased to have such an array of guests to welcome him in his new office .
