Lodge was opened to the second degree , Bro . Playford was examined and entrusted , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed , Brother Playford candidate . Lodge resumed to the first degree . At the request of the W . M . Brother Hearnden assumed the chair , and rehearsed the ceremony of investiture of Officers , Bro . G . D . Mogford acting as D . C .

It was proposed by Bro . Dehane , and carried , that the votes of the Lodge be handed to Bro . Curtis P . M . in favour of the son of the late Bro . Hitchcock , of the Mother Lodge . Bro . Brown will take the ohair at the next meeting .

Thomas W . M . 753 , who opened the Lodge in the second degree . Bro . T . B . Harpham was examined , entrusted , and the ceremony of raising rehearsed . Both ceremonies were given in an excellent and perfect manner , with the able assistance of the Officers .

The W . M . Bro . Harpham resumed the chair . Bro . Hands was unanimously elected W . M . for next meeting . The fifteen sections were worked in this Lodge , at the meeting on the 10 th inst ., when a large number of Brethren attended , and were highly interested .

NEW CONCORD LODGE , No . 813 . ON Wednesday , 18 th inst ., at Bro . Witte's , Farleigh Hotel , Amhurst Road , Stoke Newington , Bro . Gaskin W . M ., Jackson S . W ., Howard J . W ., Peters S . D ., Feistel J . D ., Denton I . G ., Gush Preceptor , Heslop Secretary , Bescoby , Matthews , Witte , and Davison . Lodge was opened in the three degrees .

The first section was worked by Bro . Bescoby and brethren . The ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . Matthews candidate . Bro . D . Jackson was elected W . M . for the ensuing fortnight .

DALHOUSIE LODGE , No . 860 . ON the 17 th inst ., at the Lord Truro , Dalston Lane , N . E ., Bro . S . C . Kaufman W . M ., Alderman S . W ., W . Clark J . W ., F . Dunstan Preceptor , W . S . Harvey Sec , Willsmer , G . H . Clark , Cunnington , George Clarke , and other brethren . The Lodge was opened to the third degree and the ceremony of raising

was rehearsed . The brethren assisted Bro . Preceptor to work the first section of the second lecture . The Lodge was then resumed to the first degree and Bros . Friedlander and T . Mathews were elected members . Several of the brethren then offered their congratulations on the choice of the new place of meeting , this being the first assembly at the new home , and the Lodge was closed in due form .

MOUNT EDGCUMBE LODGE , No . 1446 . ON the 17 th inst ., at the Havelock Arms , Naylor Road , Peckham , S . E ., Bros . J . Morse W . M ., H . Cornford S . W ., J . Frampton J . W ., A . E . Mullins Sec , Sherborne , Stewart , Tofts , Clarke .

The Lodge was opened in the three degrees , and called off . Lodge called on and resumed to second degree . Bro . Clarke answered questions , and was entrusted . The ceremony of raising was rehearsed , Bro . Clarke candidate . Lodge was resumed .

Bros . Clarke 1693 , and Frampton 1901 , were unanimously elected members . They responded , thanking the Brethren for their election . Bro . Cornford was elected W . M . for ensuing week , and appointed

Officers in rotation . Ballots were taken in connection with the Benevolent Association attached to this Lodge , four Subscriberships ( £ 210 s Od ) being disposed of , and falling to Bro . Stewart 15 G 3 , Mrs . Miles , Bros . Lane and Ornash .

W ., F . Dunstan P . M . Preceptor , Harry Willsmer Sec , and several other Brethren . The ceremonies of initiation and passing were rehearsed , Bros . Ives P . M . and Willsmer acting as candidates . Bro . Thomas Feistel was elected W . M . for the next meeting .

UPTON INSTRUCTION LODGE ANNUAL SUPPER . THE third annual supper and Ladies' night of the Upton Lodge of Instruction , No . 1227 , was held on Monday , at the Great Eastern Hotel , Liverpool Street , under the presidency of Bro . E . M . Jeffery W . M . of

the Mother Lodge , who , m his old genial way took up his position as chairman , being ably supported by his Wardens ( Bros . Peters and Hyde ) and the Past Masters of the Lodge , with tho exception of Brother 0 . Schmidt and John Stroud , the latter being unfortunately absent through illness at home .

The attendance was most satisfactory , the company numbering close on ninety , of whom nearly one half wore Ladies . Altogether the event must be described as a red-letter day for the Upton Lodge of Instruction , everyone present thoroughly enjoying themselves . Songs , recitations and music helped to fill up the intervals between the

toasts of the evening and kept the company thoroughly entertained until close upon midnight . Each of the Ladies was presented with a hamper of chocolate as a souvenir of the occasion . We must not omit to mention that much of the success of the meeting was due to the efforts of Bro . C . J . Free P . M . Treasurer of the Lodge , and Bro . G . A . Peters its Secretary , each of whom did all that was possible to ensure the enjoyment of the company .

PROVINCIAL .

CAMBRIAN LODGE , No . 364 . THE annual installation took place at the Masonic Hall , Neath , on the 3 rd inst ., when Bro . Geo . Palmer was installed W . M . b y the outgoing Master Bro . Matthew Whittington .

PORTSMOUTH LODGE , No . 487 . AT the Masonic Hall , Highbury Street , Portsmouth , on the 12 th inst ., in the presence of a large gathering of the Craft , Bro . Charles F . Brown was installed W . M . by Bro . John Brickwood P . P . J . G . D . The new Master presented Bro . John Brickwood with his portrait in oils ,

on behalf of the members of the Lodge , and an illuminated address which recites that it is presented as a mark of the high appreciation in which the services of Bro . J . Brickwood as W . M . of the Lodge for two successive years are held by his Brethren ; and to congratulate him upon having that day completed the sixth successive Mastership of five difierent Lodges in the Borough of Portsmouth .

Bro . Brickwood feelingly acknowledged the compliment which had been paid him , and he presented the portrait to the Lodge to hang upon the walls of the Lodge Room .

ARBORETUM LODGE , No . 731 . ' / THE installation meeting took place on Wednesday , 11 th inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Derby . There was a large attendance of visiting brethren , as well as members of the Lodge , and the ceremony was most impressively performed . Brother Samuel Tinkler was installed as Master .

PRIORY LODGE , No . 1000 . ON Thursday , 12 th inst .. a successful conversazione was held in the Victoria Temperance Hotel , Southend , under the auspices of this

Lodge . Among those present were the W . M . Bro . E . J . Bowmaker , Bros . Albert Lucking P . M . Prov . G . D . C . P . G . P ., T . J . Railing Prov . G . Sec . P . G . A . D . C , W . Lloyd Wise , and others , the company numbering about 170 .

A pleasing incident was tbe playing by the Metronome Band of a waltz specially composed by Mr . Harry Read , and dedicated to Bro . E . J . Bowmaker W . M ., which met with a most hearty reception .

STAMFORD LODGE , No . 1045 . THE annual installation was held at the Town Hall , Altrincham , on Monday , 2 nd inst ., when Bro . W . H . Jones S . W . was installed W . M . by Bros . H . H . Mayor W . BI ., John Siddeley P . M . P . P . D . D . C ., and Joel Foden P . M . Bro . Newhouse Prov . Grand Sec . extended the congratulations of the Provincial Grand Master Lord Egerton to the newly-installed W . M .
