NEW CONCORD LODGE BALL .

THE annual ball of this Lodge , No . 813 , was hold on 10 th mat ., at the Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen St ., London , under the presidency of Bros . R . R . Harper W . M . of the Lodge , who was supported by Bro . S . George the S . AV ., Vico President , and a strong list of Stewards . Tho gathering waa a most enjoyable one , and wo think

all present enjoyed themselves . After tho supper tho usual toasts were honoured . Bro . Harper in proposing the health of tho Stewards said that everyone knew that tho success or failure of gatherings liko this mainly depended on the ability and energy of tho Stewards . He flattered himself ho had secured brethren who had one and all

devoted themselves to ensuring complete success , a result ho thought , beyond question , they had achieved . Bro . George replied , and then proposed the health of the President , to whom he said was due tho honour of making the gathering what it really was . All who knew him wero aware of his natural geniality , and he conld assure those who did not , that no man existed who was more entitled to tho respect

of his fellows than their W . M . Tho President briefly responded . He felt amply repaid for any trouble he had taken in tho arrangements for tho evening by glancing at the pleasant faces he saw around him . He then proposed the toast of tho evening—the Ladies . Personally , ho thanked them for their attendance . He hoped the arrangements that had been made for their enjoyment had

given satisfaction , and also that on many future occasions ho should have an opportunity of welcoming them . Bro . Johnson , who throughout tho evening acted as M . C , responded . The reputation of the Freemasons' Tavern for ball suppers is too well known to call for mention , and wo are also aware that Bro . Best always desires that his guests shonld thoroughly enjoy what is put before them . To do this

comfortably a little time ia needed , aa Bro . Best is doubtless aware , and perhaps he will take an opportunity of impressing this fact on the memory of his waiters , whose anxiety on this occasion somewhat affected tbe guests . Dining is , we believe , a fine art j so is cramming birds for the early markets . We have tried the former , but havo no desire to extend our researches in tho direction of tho latter , more especially if we aro to bo tho victims operated on .
